AP is moving a picture of Jeter and Pettitte embracing after the press conference. For anyone interested, it can be seen in the Times and other venues.
I thought Andy handled himself very well considering the circumstances. I thought this might affect how he pitched this coming season but I have a feeling this kid will be on a mission to prove that he is deserving of his contract and will try to do what he always does: give the Yankees and the fans nothing but his very best.
I thought it was very cool of Jorge, Mo and Jeter to be there.
I liked the fact that the lawyers were small parts of the story, not sitting next to him whispering in his ear.
Finally, by using the word desperate, it gave me a glimpse as to where his mind was when he did this stuff. The guy made some mistakes and I'm okay with his answers and appreciate his being forthcoming, even if it was forced.
So Andy took HGH...I personally don't give flying rats patoot.
Oh wait, he lied about how many times....and how or who he got it from too???
BAH I STILL COULDN'T CARE LESS.
This charade has been an embarrassment since it began with Mr. Mitchell's "report." Continuing to focus solely on 2 players and their mutual "Trainer" when we all know that the full extent of this of this "epidemic" is being in large part ignored is shameful and insulting.
The talk of Andy being potentially suspended is absolutely infuriating and absurd.
Selig is joke and I hope his gold fish dies.
In the meantime I think Cashman should try and get Joe Blanton for no other reason than we may have nothing else but more specifically...
1. Hughes is only gonna go 170 INN (MAX) and whether we like it or not he's still a bit of an unproven MLB entity.
2. Ian can only go 190 (Max) and again is unproven and could spend some time in Scranton.
3. Joba has been banished to the "dungeon" for '08 and if you believe he'll be released to join the rotation I have a bridge yada blah blah...
4. Mike Mussina is a year older and last year he was a year younger....Last year he sucked.
5. Andy could be distracted or otherwise adversely affected by recent events and his performance may suffer.
(Personally I'll think he'll be fine but I'm just putting it out there...)
Finally...
6. God forbid Wang or any of them get injured OR SELIG UNFAIRLY SUSPENDS ANDY AND SUDDENLY WE'RE WATCHING KEI IGAWA'S NEW MECHANICS.
So --- let me get this straight --- Jeter, Posada and Mariano were there to support Pettitte for his lying and cheating. I'm sure if Torre was around he would support him too as one of the "good ol' boys".
But Giambi -- who was the ONLY honest guy and admitted it from day one --- was crucified for telling the truth. Where was Jeter/Posada/Mo then?
Then you think about the ARod/Jeter riff and Jeter running to everyone's support except Arods. Interesting.
If you're a believer in this "chemistry" team stuff, it sure sounds there is a click that sticks together and they don't let anybody else in.
For the record --- Jeter/Posada and Mo back a cheater, liar and narc. Priorities are set I guess.
Hey Michael, quit pickin' on the goldfish.
Pettitte has different origins and tenure than guys like Giambi and his relationships are different because of it.
I think Mussina will be better this year.
