Dinner w/Joe; un-Florida-like weather

I'd like to say thanks to Yankees manager Joe Girardi and media relations director Jason Zillo for having dinner with the beat writers last night. It was not an on-the-record evening, but I'll just share that we had a nice time. I believe there were 11 of us there, and it was nice to be able to visit away from the ballpark.

The only downside of the evening was driving through flooded streets -- there was some torrential rain last night with thunder and lightning. It's not raining now, just overcast, but it's in the low 50s and there is a freeze warning for tonight.

Nevertheless, the Yankees are braving the elements for a seven-inning intrasquad game today. Pitchers scheduled for one team are Mike Mussina (two innings), Darrell Rasner (one), Daniel McCutchen (one), Sean Henn (one), Jonathan Albaladejo (one), Mark Melancon (one). On the other team are Jeff Karstens (two innings), Scott Patterson (one), Steven Jackson (one), Billy Traber (one), Edwar Ramirez (one) and Ross Ohlendorf (one).

Come onnnnnn

You can tell us what was said.....

Or at least a little on how you feel hes doing so far getting the troops together.

Ms. O'Brien,

Some contributors on the New York Yankee message board are saying Yankee manager Girardi was invited by the writers and you guys picked up the tab.

My sense is that he invited you guys and the Yankees picked up the tab.

I know it was an off-the-record evening but I wonder who invited whom.

My sense is that the reporters are so cheap and used to eating off of the free buffet tables that the teams provide that you guys would never consider picking up the tab.

My money is on the Yankees...I bet they paid for the evening.

We invited Girardi, and paid for both he and media relations director Jason Zillo.

You lose Danny! I hope you didn't bet too much moolah!

Nice to know that Girardi is developing amicable relations with the press, since that was one of his problems in Florida. Shows he's learning and growing. Maybe that year in broadcasting helped.

I was going to have some pie this evening anyway, it might as well be humble pie.

I guess I have to stop believing the bad press about the press.

Thanks.

So sorry so hear about the FREEZE warning.

Oh and it's 19 degrees here today. I hope you can survive down there with the FREEZE warning. Should we put the national guard on notice, just in case, you get a chill? Still 19 here.

:)
