Where is it?
Thanks for the info Kat! This is the first place I've seen it.
Pat: We have been given a bye and go immediately to the second round, the League Championship series. No more first round and out, no more fatigued players. Older players no issue.
Making the Yanks lean and mean and profitable, even considering the extra costs of being in NY, the whole global empire thing and Cashman's often chilling archetype Paris Hilton shopping habits (Igawa, Giambi, Brown, Irabu, Damon on an on ad infinitum) and never ending lunatic mistakes/snakebites re: the personnel decisions ...
Consider this ...
http://www.cwc.lsu.edu/cwc/other/stats/warcost.htm says WW II cost $2091.3 billion in 1990's dollars.
Today the government announced the gap in Social Security and Medicade and Medicare is up 66 plus percent from a few years ago to something like 45 Trillion Dollars.
Yes we will survive somehow and muddle through hopefully, or so they say, but the macroeconomic outlook is dire at best.
How will the Yankees draw fans and maintain their elite status, in the US and worldwide in the face of an American and perhaps global recession or depression, which is all but faite accompli?
As such, even with the highest equity value, YES Network and the rest of it, the Yankees should just go for youth, keep A Rod for the HR record chase and cut everything else, way, way, way back.
There is more than enough young American and global talent to win, win fairly less expensively and win smarter.
Small ball and other fundamentals should be the new bedrock taught from the lowest minor leagues. Emphasis on intelligent players with high IQ's in general and high baseball IQ's (harder to define) should be part of the new emphasis.
As go the Yankees so goes America ... if you look at every decade since the 1920's there are many parallels between the Yanks and society at large.
If we don't get Johan, and if we shed the fat contracts that are non productive in the next two years and replace those guys with young cheap talent (Eckstein types) then the team will be poised for a new dynasty.
By doing this Cashman can out maneuver Theo, who has so hamstrung him and us over the past five years.
Call it mental, crazy, insane, bla bla bla, a rant, we have to look at the facts, and hard economic data (much of it is filled with lies and falsehood) and see how the land is set before us, and adjust accordingly in drafting, scouting, payroll, contracts, free agents and most of all, cutting back and eliminating Cashman's mistakes.
No one else in any other field could make so many mistakes and go so untouched.
How long have you all been such losers you ask each other such questions all day long? The guy that was a Met fan and than switched tells it all...Once the rings came so did the pathetic fans!
Can you guys at least give us a race in 08? Your bringing back the same washed up team from years past. Oh how the mighty cheaters have fallen!
Do yourselves a favor and FIRE that loser Cashman...He might be the worst evaluater of talent I have ever seen....Especially pitching: Kevin Brown, Pavano, Igawa, Unit, Farnsworth, etc. etc. etc.....I mean name me ONE good pitccher he has signed!
Are you really keeping the CHEATER Pettite? Ohhhh I know he only cheated twice.....and I only had two beers at the Pats game yesterday.....Pathetic....He is a church going man correct? Can he say "HELL?"
REALIST....You have to be the easiest target. First of all mr. chubby fingers, only post once. Secondly, the fact you are in NYC and a Celtic fan is hilarious. Let me guess....Starting in the early 80's??? Right after 78 when you became a Yankee fan???? Then in 94 when you learned a hockey puck was not a ring ding and jumped on the Edmonton Rangers bandwagon? Wait a second, let me see if I can guess........Hmmmmmmmm, your favorite guy on the Celtics wasssssssssss Larry Bird ?
This board is too easy....Come to Fenway when you get a real team. We own the Brawnx now......Every game we are heard! Big bad Brawnx my A^^ !!!
THE YANKEES LOSE...THEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES LOSE !!!
DO THE PAPLEBON !!!
GOT NEW RINGS ????
UN REALIST - Yet more proof that RSN is full of morons like all fandoms. Go home, and thank that member of your board who shielded the Sox from his report.
So you post a story with the heading Schedule out, but don't post said schedule....WHY?!?!?
Nice sentence structure. Was that jiberish? Typical rambling yank fan. bwahahahahha
My seven year old border collie has seen 2 world championships!!!
How many have your pets seen!!!!
oops
Almost forgot.
Bwahahahahahah!!!
I'm very happy for your seven year old Border Collie/Girlfriend, she must be very thrilled with the two championships. Throw her a bone for me, will ya?
So let me get this straight: You, a Red Sox fan, say the Yankees should fire Cashman because he's a terrible GM. Are you saying you actually want the Yanks to get better? Shouldn't you be hoping that the Yankees give Cashman a long term extension?
actually NO. It is getting boring up here in Title Town. I mean give us some competition. You have twice as many teams in every sport and still cannot win. It is too funny!
Red Sox fans, when your cheating @SS team falls once again, I will cherish that day to get into your idiotic face. The fall will come hard after tasting a win FOR A CHANGE. You win two World Series in a short period of time and you think you own the world. Red Sox fans don't lose with class and they don't win with class. They have no class and no brains. You're a bunch of whiners whether you win or lose. Don't think you're going to win forever. That's just not happening. Just leave us your email address so that when your cheating team loses once again -- and it will come faster than you can imagine when the steroids destroy their fat bloated bodies -- Yankee fans will want to pay you a visit. In the meantime, get a life, you moron. You are pathetic. Go back and kiss Grandpa Mitchell's cheating @$$ to thank him for hiding the well known steroid users on the Roid Sux -- BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY WAY YOUR CLASSLESS TEAM CAN WIN.
Bwaa-bwaa, you are the same classless dope that comes here every day boasting about winning. THE YANKEES ARE USED TO WINNING, BABY. That's right. So you won't see us gloating like you. Your roid @$$ team never wins so you don't know how to handle it like an intelligent adult when you FINALLY do win here and there. You're acting like a spoiled brat who is ignorant and stupid. You are an embarrassment to your team. You're an embarrassment to the human race. Get a life, little boy.
Pride cometh before the fall, Red Sox fans.
Bwaahhawaah, the higher you place yourself on your self made pedestal, the harder you're going to fall -- and right now you have placed yourself up so high that your head is in the clouds and your fall will be HARD.
BWAAH BWAHH IS RIGHT RED SOX FANS. GET USED TO THAT SOUND. BECAUSE THAT'S C0MING FOR YOU REAL SOON.
BWAAH BWAAA RED SOX FANS. BWAAAH BWAAH -- GET USED THE SOUND -- GET USED TO CRYING. KEEP PRACTICING SO YOU GET IT RIGHT. REVENGE IS OH SO SWEET RED SOX FANS.
dont feed the trolls!!!
That makes sense...The Yanks get caought with 23 ROID heads and you call the Sox cheaters. Another clueless Yankee fan!
Why r u not cutting Pettite or Giambi?
EXACTLY !!!!
Goodnight LOSERVILLE !!!
Met Pete Rose today at the show...
He looks like hell but was nice enough. Frank, the show's executive producer and I chatted with Pete.
Frank is a huge Cubs fan and said "I was chatting with Ernie Banks this afternoon and now I am sitting with Pete Rose... it's a cool day."
Knowing that Ernie was Frank's idol, I responded by saying "that's cool... it we had Jim Rice here, it would be perfect."
Pete nodded and said "Another 14."
For a nanosecond I was confused then I realized that by coincidence all 3, Rose, Rice and Banks, wore #14.
I had to do crowd warm up, along with segment producing (we all have like 15 jobs on the show).
I knew Mike, one of my fellow producers, is a big big BIG Phillies fan. I introduced Pete Rose as "A man who was such a champion that he did the unthinkable... he led the Phillies to a World Series title. That alone is worth a standing ovation."
Mike shook his head at me and Pete laughed.
I had snuck onto the blue cards (the cards Dennis holds during interviews) a question comparing Rose's stats to Jeters stats at the same age which I pulled from this website.
But Pete went on a strange tangent about betting Tony Perez of which one of them would be the first to take a dump at Riverfront Stadium.
It was such a strange and long story that I guess Dennis never got around to asking it.
Oh well.
I wrote a joke tonight about the new Cubs outfielder Kosuke Fukudome and how I wish Harry Carey were still alive just to hear him mispronounce his name every night.
That's the end of the Dennis Miller dispatch
Now back to Trolls, Trades and awarding Andy Pettitte the Nobel Peace Prize for having the guts to say "I kind of did it" after being caught
Sully - sounds like you've got a cool gig re: occupation.
Kat - heard you on XM satellite yesterday afternoon. Good job!
Yeah, I'd say Bosox fans are freakin' insufferable these days.
Pete Rose is getting old and all the partying has to take its toll.
What you do to your body now shows 20 years later.
Cashman is smart.
ARod is smart to lose Boras and he's the best player in MLB history, so far.
The Yanks are going to kick butt because they have stayed together........
and they're good.
Screw the Bosox. Who cares what they do? Our guys are tough.
I'd say that idiots and morons come in all flavors.
Here is one Sox fan that is not quite as cocky as the idiot who posted above. If I recall the Sox won the division by 2 games...after being up by as many as 14....I'd say that is enough competition for me.
1) Mitchel Commission report was flawed and likely biased. But, it was needed. At least, the Player's Association will have to accept the reality and let the league be more aggressive in finding the steroid users and come down hard on anyone caught in future. 2) Does it really surprise anyone that the Yankees were targeted in the Mitchel report? First, Yankees are ALWAYS a target. Their rich history and 28 championships guarantee that. Second, the commission was headed by a sitting RS Director. This was a clear case of conflict of interest! Furthermore, we all know about Mitchel's objectivity; anyone remembers how the "news" about Byrd's HGH use was leaked at a crucial juncture during the ALCS? Don't tell me that he could not find info about RS steroid users if he actually tried. 3) Unfortunately, steroid use has been rampant in the MLB. They are in every team and the Yankees did not enjoy any special advantage in this regard. I have a feeling that info about steroid users in other teams, including the teams that the Yankees played in WS in the 90's (and the 2004 and 2007 WS winner) will eventually come out. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
It looks like the admissions of guilt are starting to trickle in and I'm surprised that Brian Roberts admitted some guilt after David Sequi threw himself on the sword and said that he himself did it but people should lay off Roberts because he is such a clean and pure soul who you would be proud to have married to your daughter.
Oh well...so much for clean and pure.
I think that "Anon's" mother was raped by a vampire
Bwahahahahahah!!!
Bwahahahahahah!!!
Bwahahahahahah!!!
We WON, WON, WON...hahaha
We have TWO WS, TWO, TWO...hahaha
My dog is SEVEN, SEVEN, SEVEN....hahaha
Bwahahahahahah!!!
Bwahahahahahah!!!
Bwahahahahahah!!!
Ive come to suck your Winter Brew!!!
Bwahahahahahah!!!
Bwahahahahahah!!!
Bwahahahahahah!!!
Im scared...hold me.
Hey Sully man, damn, we were close to being co-writers of the Dennis Miller show...sooooo close!!
BTW - Where is the show taped? Any way we can score tickets?
Unrealist,
You small minded turd , I have been a Celtic fan since the early 70's when THE KNICKS had two championships. Living in a city doesn't automaticaly make you a fan of it's respective sports teams. Only a narrowminded beantown bozo like you would think otherwise.
You also make claim that one poster switched teams...whoop! He was 10 and it was in 1990 , when The Yanks were the worst team in baseball....so not after the last run. Boy , I bet your inbred little @ss hadn't become a Sux fan before 2004 , if you were you wouldn't be as bold as you are now. btw, what number did you wear??? I mean YOU are the reason they won , correct? Lol , you probably didn't even play pee wee league?
lastly , fat fingers not. Big ones that would choke the life out of your worthless bandwagon cheering @ss. I will agree that the double post is a pain but I seem to remember you doing the same at a much greater rate than I.
So , in summation , it appears as if you are a bandwagoner , with no life , that was probably held down in the showers during gym class. The jocks had their way with you and as sickening as it was , you actually enjoyed it. So to mask your shame , you use the Net to strike out at all those that you feel inferior to. Good thing you are unemployable as that list is a LONG one. Lmao...later stooge!
OWNED
Bwahahahahahah!!!
lol
Got this schedule off gotickets.com, they are alrady taking deposits for tickets.

Great. We get to finish our final season at the Stadium on the road. We should have out last game at home.
Sorry for the EXTREMELY long post.
As I understand it the Commision felt they had to choose between giving the Mets their last series at Shea or the Yankees their last one at the Stadium, since the two teams traditionally do not play at home on the same day.
You see who they chose.
Over the years Steinbrenner stuck it to Selig in various ways. For example, when the Commission wanted to hire lobbyists Selig got the owners to 'voluntarily' kick in the fees. Twentynine clubs 'volunteered' and the Yankees blew him off.
Don't think the Commision forgets stuff like that when scheduling time comes around.
Was it really necessary to post the schedule?
A link would have done just fine.
Bud's crosshairs are always pointed at the Yanks. Maybe Bud and Hank can sit down for a beer and smooth things out? I mean with names like Bud and Hank, you figure a couple beers and a game of darts would be enough.
Selig chose the Mets to play their last game at home this year BECAUSE THEY PLAYED THEIR LAST GAME AT HOME LAST YEAR. Oh that's fair.
The Yankees played their last game on the road in 2007 SO THEY GET TO PLAY THEIR LAST GAME ON THE ROAD AGAIN THIS YEAR -- the LAST YEAR AT THE STADIUM.
SELIG MUST GO. I DESPISE THIS MAN WITH SUCH A PASSION. THIS SENILE BIASED FOOL IS THE BIGGEST JERK IN SPORTS. He's a disgrace, an embarrassment to all sports. OUT WITH SELIG, IN WITH SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE TRUE MEANING OF BEING COMMISSION OF MLB.
I agree about Selig but what do you expect from a Sport that would hire a team owner to begin with? Not to mention he in turn hired a member of a team that was to investigate steriod and HGH????? Not much make sense in any of it....thank goodness spring training isn't THAT far away ;-)
Please sign the online petition to remove Bud Selig as Commission from Major League Baseball. Here is the link.

1) Given what the Yankees have meant to the MLB, MLB could have tried to return favor by letting them have their last game at home. The Yankees should remember this when the league needs a favor from them in the future; there will be such occasions like in the past. 2) Red Sox fans were obsessed with the Yankees when they were losing. Even though RS are 2-0 vs. the Yankees (in terms of WS titles) this millennium, the Yankees still are in the heads of RS fans. Read their posts in the Yankees blogs EVERYWHERE. It is possible to show class both in wins and losses. Some RS Fans, such as Realist, get that. However, at least from the blogs in NY newspaper web sites, it appears he is still a minority. It would be much more enjoyable to have rational discussion about the two teams.
Marianne,
The slight of the Yankees is okay, as the truly last game at the Stadium will probably be in late October or early November, while they can dynamite Shea around July and nobody will notice.
Jim A.,
Your viewpoint makes me feel much better!
YES! Let the last game at the old Stadium be a postseason game!
Alibaba,
I don't think Realist is a Sox fan...He might be a little insulted right now.
Alibaba,
I am a Yankee fan :-)...though my Father played against The Yaz in High School and he is one of my all time favorite players.
There's a name I bet alot of the newfound , bandwagon , blowhard Sox fans don't even recognise ;-)
The Red Sox are like those people who win the lottery and shove their good fortune in everyone's face. With their great fortune they have lots of friends and lots of attention. But they squander their money like fools and become poor once again only to find out they have no friends and no one cares about them anymore. They once again become that same poor team but now they're hated by everyone. Before they were considered lovable losers but now they will become hated losers. It's only a matter of time, mark my words.
You guys that are "crying" about the Yanks not getting to finish the season at Yankee Stadium are looking at this the wrong way as usual. The Yanks will play their "final" game at Yankee Stadium in the "08" World Series. How else would you want to close out The House That Ruth Built?
Roy, thanks for repeating Jim A.'s point (and secondarily Marianne's). We might have forgotten already... it's been a good half hour at least... LOL
Go back and study their posts, Roy. They made the point without insulting anybody else's way of looking at it.
Oh, wait!
That's why you had to do it over!
Without an insult it just wasn't complete for you...
Wow slow day eh?
How about the FIRST game at the Stadium next year - March 31st? What's up with THAT? It could still be winter in NY!
Sorry if this was posted earlier..

The Yanks and utility infielder Nick Green agreed to a minor league contract yesterday. Green, who spent part of the 2006 season with the Yankees, will compete with 40-man roster infielder Alberto Gonzalez and possibly Chris Woodward (on another minor league deal) for a roster spot. Green, who played Triple-A in the Pirates' organization last year, will make $550,000 if he plays in the big leagues and has a chance to add $100,000 in incentives.

Jon K.,
But look who we're playing on opening day!
Weather wouldn't be likely to be better in Toronto... ;-)
Alibaba,
As a Red Sox fan I agree with a lot of what you said.
I've said this before and this blog seems to confirm it.
Red Sox fans are obsessed with the Yankees. We've had an inferiority complex for 4 generations. That's tough to just turn off.
Yankee fans are NOT obsessed with the Red Sox.
But what they DO have is a need to feel superior to the Red Sox.
Again, 4 generations of being the Road Runner to the Red Sox's Wile E Coyote will do that.
That's why you get the Red Sox trolls on here saying "YES! I'm FINALLY eating Road Runner for dinner!"
And Yankee fans who used to just take us out at the knees with a quick "19-18" and then said "It won't take us 86 years" have no gone on to "Red Sox have no class" and "we ALMOST caught you" and Oliver Stone like conspiracy theories.
It's what makes the rivalry fun and gives it a whole new dimension.
Neither side knows how to act.
At least this board is a little more about baseball and not as much about calling everyone a homosexual
Sully, you nailed it brother.
Slow day in yankee land.....someone start an argument!
; )
No not you anon..a healthy argument that doesnt contain any "bwwwaaahhhh" comments.
100 to 250$$$
THE YANKS RAISED PRICES 150 PERCENT?
But, Diane, can't they at least close the roof in Toronto? OR am I thinking about a different stadium.
John G...holidays are quickly approaching. Have you picked up that wonderful baseball/Brooklyn book, I STILL LOVE JONI JAMES??? It will soon be a classic!
Sully,
I agree with alot of what you said....in 2004 I was very happy for the sox , my better half is a lifelong sox fan. It was the obnoxious behavior that turned me off to this generation of Red Sox fan...my lady , you and CO are not included in that.
I also see a huge number of "new" sox fans...you know the one's ...their fav team changes with each new WS winner ;-)
So quite possibly some of the obnoxious fans are just Yankee haters who have jumped on the bandwagon? Either way, the team you root for won...so act like a champ not a chump...not pointed at you Sully...aka The Seamonster?????
Lol, wasn't it "Sigmund And The SeaMonster"???? It came on the heels of "HR Puffinstuff"...lol.
OK, I’ll start...
I think the Dan Haren situation and the fact that Hankenstein said we are not out of the Santana sweepstakes, really helps the Yanks out even if we don’t get Johan…let me explain.
Haren and Connor Robertson to the D-Backs for 6, prospects: OF Carlos Gonzalez, LHP Brett Anderson, OF Aaron Cunningham, 1B Chris Carter, LHP Greg Smith and LHP Dana Eveland. Gonzalez, Anderson, Cunningham and Carter were recently named the number 1, 3, 7 and 8 prospect in the D-Back system by BA.
That would be the equivalent of us trading =
Joba Chamberlain
Ian Kennedy
Dellin Betances
Austin Romine
+2 other prospects.
If Dan Haren yielded a bounty of players that rich, what do you think the Twins will want for Santana? I have a feeling the 'Ellsbury party of 4' or 'Lester party of 4' would not be enough to pry Santana away from the Twins. If the Sox end up getting Santana, it will cost them more after the Haren trade than before. The new Twins GM Bill Smith now has a barometer to measure what kind of package he should get back for Johan. I dont think the Yanks are really back in on it, but the fact that they say they are, helps drive up the price for the Sox. Both factors lead me to believe that Johan will either stay with the Twins, or be shipped out to either LA team due to their plethora of high talent prospects.
Gotta give it to Billy Bean as well, he is the master of the trade and my idol. He took Mark Mulder, who was a dominate 28 year old lefty at the top of his game ( hmmm, who else fits that description?? ), flipped him to the Cards for Haren and Kiko Calero, who both were big parts of the A’s. Then took Haren and flipped him for 6 high end prospects when his value was at its peak. So in the end Mulder, who cant even get back on the field for the past 2 seasons, was turned into a boatload of talent to build around. That my friends is how its done. Can you imagine if Billy Bean was the GM of the Yanks, Sox or Mets? With his mind and their money, Bean would be unstoppable!
Dru,
Meanwhile, while the genius Mr. Beane rotates his roster and trades players at their peak value...his team doesn't win sh*t!!!! Nobody is more overrated than Billy Beane.
Alibaba,
Sully will gladly tell you that the trade off from being "lovable losers" to "hated winners" is one any fan would make. The Red Sox are becoming hated, just like the Yankees, because they are dominating right now and people hate a winner but, and I can't speak for Sully, but I'll guess he is fine as heck with that.
The sox will move from being lovable losers to hated winners to hated losers. Anybody wanna bet?
hHAHAHAHA
"Meanwhile, while the genius Mr. Beane rotates his roster and trades players at their peak value...his team doesn't win sh*t!!!! "
Dru you have to admit Jim had a good one there...
Jim - You have to look at it from the A's point of view. They lose star players every year.
Giambi ( when he was actually good )
Tejada
Dye
Mulder
Hudson
Zito
McGwire
Eckersley
Damon
Haren
Since 96 ( when Walter Haas died and the team was sold ), no other team in the league has given away so many stars at their peak. Aside from last season, the A's are always in the playoff mix. I know its difficult for Yankees fans to see a season that doesn’t end with a WS win as a success, but the rest of the league has a different mentality. Without Bean they could have easily been the KC royals the past decade. Bean and his staff are excellent evaluators of talent and make the most out of the money they have to spend. If it wasn’t for guys like Piazza, Duchscherer, Street, Chavez and Crosby getting injured last season, they would have been in the mix to make the playoffs again this season. To say he is overrated just because he doesn’t win a WS is a bad call on your part.
SULLY:
Pull your head out of the clouds and then take your blinders off -- or maybe you should just stop reading those phony Boston tabloids. You say we are awarding Andy Pettitte the Nobel Peace Prize for having the guts to say "I kind of did it" after being caught. Andy didn't say "I kind of did it" -- he said I DID IT. He admitted doing it. His enemies aka Red Sox fans may take exception to the fact he did it to heal and maybe you don't believe him. But who gives a rat's @$$ if Red Sox fans believe him. We Yankee Fans believe him and forgive him and that's all that matters. Nevertheless we are not awarding him the Nobel Piece Prize for having the guts to say I DID IT. We are just awarding him some understanding and forgiveness, that's it. Please don't come here pretending to be supportive and then make nonsensical statements like this. You're insulting our intelligence.
bwahahahahha -- How old are you? Seriously. Don't you have a life? You're here every day, day and night with the same childish in-your-face comments. You are beginning to make Nudge look like an amateur.
I don't have to forgive Andy because I never gave a damn in the first place.
If you aint cheating you aint trying.
Steroids are here to stay so lets embrace them hah.
But seriously it's cat and mouse and there will always be cheaters this crusade is laughable.
Dru,
Sure, Beane has been dealt the hand of having cheap owners etc. but so have about 25 other teams in baseball and the cheapest, Florida, has won two WS while Oakland has been picked to contend just about every year as a result of the genius of Beane, yet they always fell short of expectations. You can't deny the team of Giambi, Tejada and the Three Amigos was supposed to not only contend, but they were supposed to be a juggernaut and they never made it.
It's easy to look like a genius when you trade a great player for five minor leaguers and two of them work out for you. Some call it genius, I call it average.
Jim A,
I agree. I've been rooting for a lovable loser almost all my life.
And when my boys won in 2004 I had to listen to morons saying "You've lost your identity. You'll miss losing."
Yeah. I really miss having my heart crushed.
It's like having your first time with someone like Liv Tyler and hearing people say "You'll miss being a virgin!"
Now people say "You are just like the Yankees!" and it supposed to be an insult.
As I've said here before, that's like saying "You are just as good looking and as cool as George Clooney. HA! Feeling bad now, right?"
I'll take being a villified winner every time.
Most of my Red Sox fan friends are also Patriot fans.
I was a Patriot fan when I was a kid, but I also didn't really follow the NFL. I didn't become a football fan until I lived with my cousin and started watching the Giants... so I am a Giants fan. Even though I am a native New Englander and could jump on the Pats bandwagon with impunity.
But I hate bandwagon jumpers... thus I am staying loyal to the Giants.
And I have a hard time with Red Sox fans come lately.
People who couldn't identify Jim Rice from rice pilaf, who think Yaz was a British pop duo from the 80s and couldn't pick out Oil Can Boyd, Marty Barrett nor Todd Benzinger in a line up.
Those are like the Yankee fans who came out of the woodwork in 1996... I'm sure you were all like "I will NOT high five you unless you can tell me who Bam Bam Meulens, Wayne Tolleson and Butch Wynager are!"
15-20 years from now we might be still posting here... and despite the Royals and Pirates dynasty of the 2010s and the Scott Boros buying the Yankees and the Red Sox cloning Ted Williams 9 times but trading them all to the Mexico City A's for Ken Griffey IV... we'll still be loyal to our teams.
(And 20 years from now Giambi's contract will finally expire)
Lets Remember who that team ran into....GIAMBI ROUNDS 3RD, THE THROW HOME IS OFF..WAIT JETER GRABS IT AND LATERALS IT TO POSADA FOR THE OUT!!! YANKEES WIN...TTTHHHHHHHHHE YANKESS WIN!!! They ran into the buzzsaw that was the late 90's Yankees. If they had the resources to keep all the guys above ( Big Mac broke the HR record, Eck was still dominate ), I doubt we would have won that series.
The Marlins one WS is a bad example. The Owner bought every available FA on the market, won the WS to prove a point, then dismantled the team. The last WS win Ill have to give it to them, but that was due to their defense (one of the best D stats of all time) and their dominate home grown SP's like D-Train and Beckett.
What about the 20 some other teams that have been miserable over the past 10 season but have a larger budget.
Think of it this way Jim. How would the Yankees have done since 96 if we lost the following players each year.
Jeter = Tejada
Bernie = Dye
Tino = Big Mac
Mo = Eckersley
Andy = Mulder
Cone = Hudson
Wells = ZIto
Damon = Damon + Melkey
Haren = Wang
Giambi = A-rod
On top of that George told Cash that his spending limit was 50M and he would have to trade guys that are going to be FA next year or two years down the line. How would the late 90's team have done? What would our outlook be losing Wang and A-rod this year?
A wise fortune cookie told me today "It is much easier to be critical than to be correct"
How fitting for today.
