Some very big Yankee names were included in the Mitchell Report, including Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Jason Giambi (everyone knew that one), but also Chuck Knoblauch, Rondell White, Kevin Brown and more. How does this news affect your opinion of those players?
Frankly, as big as some of the names involved were (Clemens, Miguel Tejada, Barry Bonds, etc.), most of those players had had their names mentioned with regards to steroids at some point previously. I'm surprised there weren't more "big" names.

I will still consider Andy a great guy and an all-time Yankee, but this one hurts. The others, I really don't care that much. Given the injury histories for some (White, Brown) you could make the assumptions - Knobby is a little surprising, but other than that no one really jumped out at me.
I wonder if McGwire NOT being in the report helps him with Hall voters next year.
Still looking through this report for any Red Sox players of any significance other than "They found something in their car". What a bunch of crap.
Mitchell is protecting his own. Typical Bosox smokescreen garbage.
Why am I not surprised?
Let's see....lots of Yankees and no Red Sox players and Red Sox Director Mitchell wrote the report? Hmmmmm!!!
Christ Rick WHO CARES
I'm not concerned about what any players who are not Yankees did or did not do.
Does it make it any easier if Papi WAS on this list?
How exactly does that change the fact that Andy IS on it?
You look really desperate.
No, Mitchell is the one that is desperate!
What do they call that river in Egypt?
Andy took HGH for an elbow injury, that's it. Let's get real.
You guys are on drugs!!!!
This was not a Yankee thing it was a baseball thing. Clemens brought that scumbag to the Yankees but ANDY & the others did it of there own free will. TORRE is just as much to blame because if you do not think he new you are all smoking crack. He should of gotten rid of him as a trainer right away but he did not.
ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL INVESTIGATION:
In all, there are 12 past and present Mets named.
Fifteen past and present Yankees are on the list. Former Yankees Kevin Brown, Mike Stanton, Rondell White, Glenallen Hill, Chuck Knoblauch and David Justice are among those implicated in the report.
In total, the report names more than 75 players, both past and present. The report is 409 pages followed by four appendixes, including copied checks and FedEx receipts.
There are also no prominent Red Sox players mentioned in the report, which is at least somewhat curious because Mitchell refused to resign from his role as part of the Red Sox management team during this investigation.
COME ON, DON'T BE NAIVE PEOPLE. SELIG NEEDS TO RESIGN.

You don't get IT. I'm not disputing or in denial of the Yankees on the list. Most don't surprise me at all. It's the Mitchell FACT that there are NO Red Sox players on there at all. That's PURE POPPYCOCK!!! And you know it.
Out of 75 there are 27 New York players...
BUT NO RED SOX????
How about Ortiz? Manny? Schilling?
Give me a f**king break, Mitchell -- you cheating motherf**ker.
several observations:
1) we as yankee fans cannot indulge in the same double standard used by SF giants fans re bonds. just because one of our favorites is written there doesn't mean it's time to circle the wagons.
andy's mention hurts, and i don't think we can exonarate just because in our heart he is a true yankee and so on. same standard should apply to all.
2) speaking of the giants, was anyone there not on drugs??? they are the SF balcos... i mean, as if that team wasn't pathetic enough...
3) love him or not, i think it's great news not seeing a-rod's name on the list. not that i ever anticipated that. unlike the other cheaters he never experienced a growth spurt of any kind - not physical nor in power numbers - he was pretty much raking from day one...
just think of this, amid this horrid report: in 6-8 years, atop the all time HR list will be a player as clean as we can have this day and age, erasing the sham that is bonds, and he'll be wearing pinstripes. and the holiest of records in american sports will be back in grace and belong to the only team that should have had it to begin with.
Pastore
The players don't inject themselves in the club house.
Bringing Torre into this is crazier than Rick's ranting.
Again assigning blame here accomplishes what exactly?
Phil....Go read the report you ignorant moron.
Ireland....If you do not know who Mitchell is than I guess this arguement is over. He is a two time senator. He went to Ireland and solved a WAR !!!! He is a Catholic that put his religion behind him for the greater good, yet he is going to screw the Yankees b/c he is from New England ?????? Get a clue.
America is now LAUGHING at the Yanks!!! CHEATERS
GIVE BACK THE RINGS !!!
CLEMENS ~ PETTITE in 00 took shots in the a^^ before work out in the playoffs.......
STEROID FACTORY IN THE BRONX !!!
***Mike Francessa is the biggest Yank fan in the world and now says the 00 ring is tainted over the Mets!
*****
RICK,
You are definitely right in your suspicion. This is a witch hunt plain and simple. The Yankees and Mets were targets while the biggest abusers -- the Red Sox -- are walking away unblemished. This is outrageous. Mitchell is a disgraceful cheat.
Oh and notice how much emphasis Mitchell placed on Clemens? Why? Because of his association with the Yankees.
Mitchell based his whole report on one dealer and one trainer. For this we should say that he helped clean up baseball? Please this report is incomplete and full of holes. I am not amazed that the Yankees have taken the biggest hit. McAmee was their trainer and he named players on his team. What a shock.
Right on Anon!
funny how there isn't a single name on this list (other than Clemens or Pettitte) that will spark debate. The rest are either obvious users or "who cares" types of players. Only Andy + Roger will get pounded on this (maybe Tejada a little) ... and the only other guy w/ explaining to do might be Brian Roberts (a good player).
Honestly, could you care less about the rest on this list??? Lo Duca? Gary Matthwes? Glaus? Nook Logan??? Puh-lease.
Pettitte and Clemens better put their bio-hazzard suits on.
How do you "SOLVE" a war exactly?
Bri
That was Mitchell's whole intent...for YANKEE players to have to put their bio-hazzard suits on!
Anyone who believes Mitchell didn't cheat by ignoring the Red Sox is totally ignorant -- a true moron. Get a clue after getting a brain.
GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU MAKE JUDGEMENTS:
Pettitte, according to the report, first asked McNamee about human growth hormone during the 2001-02 off-season and McNamee said he discouraged him. But Pettitte experienced an elbow injury early the next season and asked McNamee again about HGH.
I REPEAT IT WAS DURING THE 2001-02 SEASON -- NOT 2000 against the Mets.
2 weeks and this blows over ... Clemens slinks away and winds up in the same debate as Bonds over the HOF ... both were ABSOLUTELY DOMINANT players BEFORE any HGH/steroid suspicion came into play so how much do you discount against them??? Personally, I'd vote both in.
As for Andy ... I have to believe that he will come out swinging and defend himself. he's not stupid and I don't think he subjects himself to another year w/ Yanks (regardless of the money) if he KNEW he was going to be implicated. Remember, Mitchell reached out to every player to get their "side" of things and most denied the meeting. So, Andy knew for sure he was going to be named and he could have easily opted for retirement ... my sense is that he has an explanation for everything (whether it's solid or not remains to be seen)
Anonymous,
Mitchell didn't cheat because he was from New England. He cheated because the the Red Sox DIRECTOR. Get a clue. You sound terribly foolish.
PROOF of PETITE'S INNOCENCE
What happened was Andy saw Clemens getting roids injected in his ass from far away. Andy mistakenly though the trainer was putting " something else " in Roger's ayss. So when the trainer came over to Andy, Petite told him to please put " that " in my ass as well.
The facts:
A Director of the Red Sox gets hired to investigate steroids..
He starts interviewing trainers in the Mets and Yankee locker rooms.
His interviews lead him to conclude that Yankees and Met players have taken ped's.
He writes 9 pages on Roger Clemens detailing that he started the drugs after he left the Sox.
Mitchell at least had the decency to say that there were other sources of these drugs that he did not uncover in his investigation. He said that during the Q&A.
How could this appearance of a conflict be ignored by MLB et al?
Are the only bad players in baseball really this concentrated in the Sox's major competition? Blue Jays, Orioles, Yankees.
That's too many coincidences for me! If there wasn't bias in the report they should have made more of an effort to document other interviews with other trainers of other ball clubs whether they led to anything or not. The publishers of this report clearly believe they are so smart, that saying there is no conflict means there is no conflict. Whether there is conflict or not, there should have been more of an effort to diffuse the appearence of a conflict. Mitchell could have at least resigned from the Sox during the investigation. He could have highlighted other interviews outside of NYC. He could have told Selig of what he found and recused himself when the evidence started to mount against three of the four division rivals of the Sox. He could have said today, that the investigation is incomplete (which he eluded to). Whether or not there IS bias in this report, he should have done some or all of the above to diffuse the appearance of a conflict. The fact that none of these things were done I think means that they really believe there is no conflict and they believe the general public is dumb enough to take them at their word whether it is true or not.
Andy got caught using HGH - report says it does not increase strength, just speeds healing. Andy says he wanted to get back on the mound to help his teammates. Misguided - yes. Loyal to his team - yes. But I still LOVE Andy, and understand why he was doing it. Clemens influenced an impressionable kid who looked up to him and also took his advice when he told him his elbow was hurting him. Sad, but true. Clemens should feel at least partially responsible for this incident and own up to his part in this.
All of you know, for a fact, that some Bosox players should have been in this report: Nixon, Garciaparra and that garbage reserve outfielder that fought with Tanyon Sturtze a few years back. C'mon, do ya think we are THAT stupid. Change this guys adult diaper, and send him back to Beantown.
No one can deny that Mitchell was conflicted. That, plus the fact that this report was based mostly on hearsay provided by people who have lied in the past, cast serious doubts about the credibility of this report. I'm sure that much of it is true, but some of it is surely false or at least a distorted truth.
There are a lot of shady things in the report. For instance, he mentions an unnamed player who bought steroids, but then decided not to use them - a fact that Mitchell claims was later verified, although he doesn't mention how it was verified. Yeah right. Wanna bet that that player was a prominent member of the 2004 Red Sox?
Anyone who thinks that these are the ONLY players involved in it are misguided.
Back in the 70's and prior , ball players were skinny dudes that could be anybody....hence the love of the game....
The 80's rang in the roids and it was rampant throughout that decade til now. There is no big suprise here... hell , imagine the NFL or NBA????????????? 300 pounders as fast as safetys and 7 footers with skills that an off guard should posses......they ALL did it and it was ALL condoned under the guise of the almighty dollar. Wake up and smell the coffee...........much ado about nothing....
All this proves a point into who the Yankees started signing since 1999 starting with Clemens!!!!!
Clemens
Giambi
Sheffeild
Brown
It looks like it started with Clemens since who brought the dealer into the clubhouse.
I want to know all the players that tested positive that are can not be reported because of the CBA. All the drug tests should be made public. Why are only these players mentioned. MLPA & MLB are ridiculous for not publicizing all of the names.
ALL THE PLAYERS WHO ARE NAMED & THE PLAYERS WHO FAILED TESTS SHOULD BE SUSPENDED IF THEY ARE STILL PLAYING FOR A YEAR!!!!!
THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN HOF
ALL RECORDS & AWARDS SHOULD BE STRIPPED.
THE OWNERS SHOULD PAY THE SALARIES OF THE SUSPENDED PLAYERS TO CHILDREN'S CHARITIES.
RANDOM INDEPENDENT BLOOD DRUG TESTING SHOULD BE DONE IMMEDIATELY.
IF THE PLAYERS WANT TO STRIKE LET THEM!!!!
A little something on the stand up guy Mitchell =
On March 4, 2004, Disney's board of directors, on which he had served since 1995, named him Michael Eisner's replacement as Chairman of the Board after 43% of the company's shares were voted against Eisner's reelection. Mitchell himself received a 25% negative vote, a fact that led dissident Disney shareholders Roy E. Disney and Stanley Gold to criticize the appointment of Mitchell, whom they saw as Eisner's puppet. On June 28, 2006, Disney announced that its board had elected one of its members, John Pepper, Jr., former CEO of Procter and Gamble, to replace Mitchell as chairman effective January 1, 2007.
Not that it matters because I could care less that there are Yankees on the report and not Sox. I wouldnt care if it was all Sox and no Yanks to be honest. You guys can throw sh!t at each other all night long like a couple of gorillas in the Zoo. The 00 WS is not tainted, nor is the Bonds HR record (sorry guys cant have it both way), nor is Ken Caminitis (not sure on the spelling) MVP. The fact is that McGwire and Sosa were all juiced up when they broke Marris' record. The owners knew it, the GM's knew it, the players knew it, the players association knew it. Nobdy cared because it was generating money for the game of baseball after it took a beating a couple years earlier during the strike. Chicks dig the long ball and so do the rest of the 'half and half' baseball fans out there. There will be no astericks, no suspensions, no giving back awards, the blame goes beyond the players. We were all in on it and drank it down like a cool cup of Koolaid. In a couple months when the new season opens, this will all be a footnote.
So you guys/gals can continue the BS debate about the report being flawed, the report being real, the Yanks getting screwed....just wake me up when its over.
Michael,
Giambi has been linked to his use through The A's and McGuire and Canseco. Shouting won't prove your point , only facts will.
Bravo DREW!!
Excellent work.
The report puts emphasis on the problem. This makes the players, owners and commissioner responsible to get this problem fixed. On the other side of the coin the people who were in charge of doing the report were no rookies at this task. They ran a narrow focused investigation by hitting upon a few targets and squeezed whatever they could extract that ran to find evidence to corroborate such squeezing. It was focused in NY but was not limited to NY teams if info derived went in toward other players and teams. The document will be well written to focus on the highlights but it is what it is a narrow focused because few will talk and name names.
I'm sure many players took HGH to heal injuries and prolong their careers but until a total investigation is done and more players named than baseball should move on and get a drug testing program. Come April the cry of play ball will be heard again and the game will go on but testing is needed.
Pettitte and Johnny Damon have some explaining to do. They're innocent until proven guilty, but they have a considerable burden here.
Giambi has been an utter disgrace, and he remains an utter disgrace. Pettitte and Damon now have to prove they are, so to speak, not in the same league as Giambi.
I mean, how many kids are walking around wearing shirts with their numbers on them?
Realist
No !@#$, but the Yankees signed him and also Sheff when everybody in the world new they were roiding. THAT IS THE YANKEE'S MANAGEMENT FAULT!!!!!
Dave S. -
Do you think that prominent Red Sox wore a (ketchup stained) I mean- bloody sock and is endorsing John McCain?
What a bafoon!
Mitchell focused this investigation on New York and other teams of his choosing. The report is not thorough since it didn't target ALL teams. It's tainted and prejudicial and is more alarming than the results. Either you target ALL THE TEAMS or you target none of the teams. You can't pick and choose. I'm embarrassed for Selig and for him because this is a witch hunt, not an intelligent fair investigation. How pitiful these two old men are, Mitchell and Selig. They have egg on their faces and they both need to step down and retired. Their vindictive brains are fried.
So only The Yankees are to blame Michael? The whole f#cking league signed players that were doing it!
Until this postal worker-"Michael Pastore" leaves I'm officially changing my handle back to "Phucktheredsox."
;-)
Selig is A$$
Seilg agree with the report eve nthough he is ripped also!

The Yankees and Mets should hire a private investigator to reveal those Red Sox players who were taking steroids and HGH. Any players who were wrongly accused and hurt by this vicious witch hunt should sue Mitchell and Selig. Both these foolish senile old men need to get the hell out.
Phuck,
I would love to stomp that pastore retard into the dirt. What a stupid pile of puke he is! I am pretty even keeled but that c#ck s#cker has me p!ssed the hell off! All he does is scream and make little sense. Ya think Sam Kinison has rose from the grave?
I just wish Diane was here to put it all in perspective , like she can only do ;-)
RED SOX NATION - You crack me up bro! lol
who can say if Mitchell was telling it straight or being biased ... if he investigated two teams or 20 ... who cares??? The sad part is that this report has hung over MLB for 20 months and it produced 2 names of note ... Clemens + Pettitte. And unlike having copies of canceled checks from these guys Mitchell only has the word of a piece of sh_t steroid dealer. Give me a break.
I find the whole report extremely underwhelming.
Red Sox Nation is just happy someone is TEMPORARILY taking the heat off her Patriots and THEIR cheating ways and their tarnished rings!!!!! Lmao!
Remember these are ONLY allegations that have NOT been proven. It's one person's word against another which means all these accusations could be false. You have to hear both sides of the story. This information means nothing. Mitchell spoke to people of his choosing and is now playing judge and jury. He can't play executioner because he doesn't have the power. The accusations are only as good as the accuser -- and with Mitchell being the RED SOX DIRECTOR, the results are tainted. They have no bearing on anything that counts in the future -- except to Red Sox fans who got one over on the Yankees because Selig likes to kiss their a$$es.
Now thats funny !!! Watch what we do to your JEts on Sunday....Give me your name, I will spot you 40 points for your pathetic organization.....WE ARE TITLE TOWN
SOX, PATS, CELTICS RULE THE EARTH !!!
NY IS A JOKE AND YOU ALL KNOW IT...HOW DEM KNICKS DOING ????????? JETS?????????
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Andy did this right before his elbow blew out, he was probably in a lot of pain but the fact is he cheated and frankly, I'm not a person who is religious at all but I judge those who are pretty harshly when they screw up and this is disappointing. I'll wait to hear from Andy before I throw him under the bus.
I suspected Clemens and Brown all along so I'm not surprised. I'm also very happy that A-Rod and Jeter are not on it.
Knobby? He was probably trying anything to get back to playing well.
I am not a Jet fan ...lmao! Btw , wasn't mo Vaughn a Sox????????????? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm???????????????????????????
Gagne as well.........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
Folks,
Pettitte's mention shouldn't be that big a surprise.
From Sept '06 (http://blogs.trb.com/sports/baseball/yankees/blog/2006/09/grimsley_named_names.html):
"Kudos to the Los Angeles Times -- which, like Newsday, is a Tribune-owned newspaper -- for finding out the names of players Jason Grimsley reportedly mentioned to federal authorities as users of performance-enhancing drugs.
"Here are the names Grimsley reportedly mentioned:
- Roger Clemens
- Andy Pettitte
- Miguel Tejada
- Brian Roberts
- Jay Gibbons
"David Segui also told ESPN a while ago he was on the list."
At Texas A&M we have this motto: "Aggies do not lie or cheat and do not tolerate those who do."
As such, Chuck Knoblauch, who along with Jeff Granger was one of our best baseball alumni, will no have a hard time finding a welcome anymore in Aggieland.
It's little things like that which make this steroid mess so depressing.
So much has changed now.
How do we look at Ankiel, the Yanks dynasty teams of recent years and other factors? Will Paul Byrd beat his tumor? I hate steroids. They are really an ugly thing.
And Pettitte! He was like a hero to me!
Nation - Hey dont forget about BC. Unfortunately Im not a Jets fan. Im curious, how many years have you been waiting to make that statement? Its like mount St Helens erupting. NO NEED TO KEEP YELLING!! LOL This must have been a great year for you. But be honest, you miss complaining about your teams dont you? Well at least you still have the Bruins right? Don’t worry buddy, soon the world will be back to normal. Know what the best part is though? You will be more miserable than ever once the Celts, Sox and Pats drop off again since you actually tasted victory. Its like you guys are smoking some high end sports crack and are at the highest high. Just wait for the comedown, there wont be enough Sam Adams in the world to fill that void. So until then ENJOY YOURSELF!!!! ; )
Honestly, one can only hope the idiots in this blog don't represent all Yankees fans.
This is not a Yankees vs. Red Sox battle, as incomprehensible as it is to all of you that something in the sports universe could be better than Yankees vs. Red Sox.
FACT: This report mentions prominent Yankees from their championship teams, and does not metion prominent Red Sox players from theirs. GET OVER IT.
FACT: The Red Sox have won 2 Titles this decade. The Yankees have won zero. GET OVER IT.
FACT: If any of you had any clue about baseball that extended beyond the home dugout at Yankee Stadium, you'd be able to identify MANY former Red Sox players within these lists.
Your baseless accusations of Manny, Papi, Schilling, and Varitek aside, there is no story here. All of baseball has been exposed here - Mitchell nor anyone else would identify the lack of red Sox in this report as somehow putting them above the fray.
You people are pathetic - Phil leading the way. Beloved Andy-boy is a juicer and you are paying him an obscene $16MM this year. Traitor Roger is a juicer and you gave him $28MM last year to be a .500 pitcher. GET OVER IT.
Sorry ...
Will NOW have a hard time ...
Knobby..that one cracks me up!. Maybe thats why he couldnt throw the ball 20 feet to 1st without nailing some poor lady in the stands.
yup - Phil will be leading the way.
GO YANKS!!!
That lady in the stands that Knobby hit was Keith Olberman's mother, by the way.
YUP:
You are an ignorant fool. You need to GET OVER coming here with your arrogance and your IGNORANCE. Are you really THAT stupid?
Michael PTRS Realist,
I have stated my point & it has not changed.
I have been a die hard Yankee Fan since 1974. I cried when Bobby Murcer was traded for Bobby Bonds. I threw a fit when Martin was fired in 1978. Cried when Munson died in 1979. watched the Yankees self distruct in the 80s. Suffered through the late 80s early 90s with players like Pasqua & Kelly and no pitching whatsoever. Saw them rebuild with great trades like Oneil for Kelly. Great picks Williams, Jeter, Rivera, Posada, & Pettite. Was very pissed when Stick & Buck were shoved asside. Enjoyed the great run of 1996 - 2000.
But my problem with the Yankees started when they traded Wells for Clemens. Clemens never wanted to be a Yankee, Wells wore an actual Babe Ruth baseball cap in a game. He loved the Yankees. They kept it going by signings the likes of Giambi, Sheffield, CHOKE-ROD, Brown, Johnson and all the rest. This is the same reason we were losers in the 80s. High priced free agents with no character.
In 2008 they had a chance to go with all youngsters & get rid of the problems. There are 3 problems left on the team
CHOKE-ROD (why did they resign him)
Giambi
Mussina
I now have to add Pettite to the list. As much as I hate it.
My point is you need team players not SUPERSTARS at every position. If you do not have players who care only Millionaires who could not care less about winning you are not going to win anything!!!!
Great post "YUP!"
Yankee fans know zippo about the sport. They live in their own little fantasy world.
Pats....drop off ???? Come on guy, you are looking at the BEST TEAM EVER !!!! We will have another 10 years of sheer DOMINANCE !!!!

Wow , we are so dumb and blinded!
Wow
This thread has now officially become a waste of time.
Enjoy ;-)
I'd be interested in getting Sully's view on why there are no Sox on the list. Sully, where are you?
First Ankiel made my summer, then he ruined it.
Now the Yankee steroids people have ruined the years 1995 to 2003 for me!
Actually UNREALIST......The Report states CLEARLY he started taking them in 98!!!
Typical Yankee fan not READING THE REPORT, just crying!
Enjoy the LOSING and the DEMISE !!!!
STEROID FACTORY IN THE BRAWNX !!!!!
yup, I would send you a message with a little chin music, but like most Redsux fans, you wouldn't get it. All you need is a shower and a shave and don't forget to tell your girlfriend Gerty to get up off the ground and wash those jeans. And tell Grampa Mitchell to tuck his little Bosox in before he reads his bedtime story to them - The Mitchell Report.
What a fairy tale! Garbage.
Nations of Winners,
You have t
