Tough one-run loss
Another tough loss for the Yankees, this one a 5-4 defeat by the Tigers at Comerica Park. Phil Hughes gave up five earned runs in six innings. Neither team scored after the fourth inning.

Melky has to stop diving into first. It was proven by MIT that it is slower than running thru the base. Also, it invites injury.
In contrast, Matsui should have levelled Jones. Knock the ball loose and/or knock their top closer out of the game. Or at least shake him up a little. Think Shelley Duncan would have tiptoed away?
On a brighter note, Alan Horne of AA Trenton has been named pitcher of the year in the Eastern League. He is 12-4 and 2.97.
Our pitching prospects and the possibility of having a homegrown rotation consisting of Wang, Hughes, Joba, Kennedy, and Horne, and Pettitte, if he wants to stay here for a couple more seasons, are reason enough for excitement for the future.
We just need the position players to start churning out as well.
It seems like we've had way too many tough losses this season. I guess that's what happens when Pavano throws the first pitch of the season. The divison is over. Yanks just gotta hope the Mariners fall apart.
Every loss is a tough loss this season because we've been coming from behind since April and May. Even though June, July and August have been great for the most part, we were always coming from behind and needed every win we could get. If the Yankees were playing like this since day one, we would be in first place, not the Red Sox. With the way we played the first two months, the Red Sox should be 20 games ahead, not just 7.
Funny how all 162 games count
Last time I checked 1 game ahead or 20 games ahead and you still win the division. I didn't hear any Yankee fans complain when in 2005 the Soxs and Yanks ended season in a tie. With the team the Yanks had it should have been more then a tie. Stop being such a whinner get over it...

Yankees since break 29-15, Red Soxs since break 27-17. Ant since its your site you first.....
25-Elimination number.
Yankees have 32 games remaining, 12 against Baltimore & Tampa Bay.
Red Soxs- 31 games remaining, 13 against Baltimore & Tampa Bay.
Red Soxs would have to go 15-16 in Sept and the Yankees would have to go 23-9 for a tie
.
Red Soxs this year: Apr-16-8,May 20-8, June 13-14, July 15-12, Auust 15-9.
Yankees this year; Apr- 9-14, May 13-15, June 16-11, July 19-9, Aug 15-9.
Possible but not probably.
Yankees are still making the playoffs
I don't know if we will make it to the 2007 playoffs ... the early injuries to Wang and Pavano, (surprise!) no Ted Lilly, the presence of Igawa and Farns, Melky and Cano and Abreu getting off to slow starts, Matsui out and not heating up till late, Clemens not arriving till June (or so), Hughes twisting his ankle after the hamstring issue, Viz having a poor start, Chase Wright's 4 HR's allowed in a row, the presence of Meyers and no backup catcher ... all of this was too much to overcome.
Had Joba and Duncan been brought up a month earlier ... and half of the things which are listed above been dealt with by Cashman (injuries can't be helped I suppose, despite the trainer) we'd been near or in first place. Maybe 2 or 3 out.
Who can say for sure?
Lilly vs. Igawa alone was worth 3 games. This may wind up having cost us a playoff spot. I hope the fans and the Yankees will learn from it ... yet they probably won't as the globalization process is nearly complete and people are too poorly educated to question what's really going on and why.
Why would you give 55 million for Igawa and not for Lilly.
It's I N S A N E.

But look at Wells, drunk all night w/ the SNL crew and then pitching a perfect game ...
(He has an arm like Mickey Lolich ... though I never saw ML pitch. Torre thought he was unique. It was good to see Wells come back and do what he did ... interesting what motivation can do ...)
Anyway, it was a far better August than I imagined. Losing tough games at the Angels and Detroit is not really so bad ...
This is not 1998.
And the future is very bright.
With a few good moves in the off season we can build a new dynasty.
If Jorge goes, get Bard.
If Mo goes, put Joba in the 9th.
If A-Rod goes, that's a lot of money to play with re other players. (Ludwick should be grabbed for LF, as Cards have 7 good OF's and only need 4 or so.)
If A-Rod stays, you could put him at SS, Jeter in CF, (Robin Yount made the transition) Melky in right and then Ludwick in LF.
Older players like Damon, Matsui, Giambi, Moose and Clemens will be phased out ...
Andy Pettitte has another good year left I think.
Go Yankees ... on to victory!
Pat Riley said to win a championship you have to win on the road.
We don't.
Boston does.
This is not our year ... but it was a good year nevertheless. The loss of Scooter, the gang caps, tank top and biz with Beijing were only minor blips ... it is a good team with a lot of good people.

Sorry for the double post I don't know what happened ... it did not seem to go through the first time ...
The season is not over in the WC race. We are two games down and breathing well. We make the playoffs and start out fresh as April but with a better club. So keep the faith and hope for a different Moose to show up at the ballpark.
We have learned alot about our transitioning team of the future this year.
Why Do We Love the Yankees?
When you think of New York Baseball one team comes to mind,
No it's not the metropolitans, if you think it is, then you must be blind,
This team i'm speaking of has donned pintripes of navy blue,
Many great men have worn them, for that you know it's true,
Playing in baseballs Cathedral, in which the Babe built,
Opponents soon finding out Mystique and Aura is something you can't wilt,
So as the success of this franchise continues to come down like rain,
Lets take a trip down Yankees memory lane.
When you think of the Yankees, you think of the success,
But in the early days of this franchise, all that was there was stress,
Jack Chesboro the Yankees first real star,
Made his infamous spitball dance by hitters, looked unhittable from afar.
The Glory days in which this franchise had rarely seen were fast approaching,
A Colonel named Rupert would change the direction leaving New York fans scorching,
In the next few years drastic changes would be made,
The foundation of the Yankees would be built with just one simple trade.
In Year 1920 the game of baseball changed eternally, Harry Frazee owner of the Boston Red Sox thought of something clever,
Frazee traded a man named Ruth from the Sox to the Yankees, which would change both teams fortunes forever,
Little did both teams know that this man would become the best, the Sultan of Swat, the King of Crash, better than all the rest,
Smacking the ball like no one else, making fans jaws drop,
Swinging the bat with such a force that when he made contact, it sounded like a gun pop.
1923 rolled around, Yankee Stadium was constructed,
In the first game in April fans witnessed Yankees Stadiums first magical production,
The Sultan of Swat took a mighty swing and launched one in the seats,
It has forever been known as the House that Ruth Built, long after he hung up his cleats.
Joining Ruth creating a fearsome 1-2 punch was the Iron Horse,
A quiet man who was gracious to all, but in the batters box showed no remorse,
Lou Gehrig was his name, and could hit a ball whether pitched high or low,
He along with Ruth created a pitchers Murderers Row.
Reeling off championships left and right, things in the Bronx were always bright,
The team had it all under Miller Huggins, in fact it'd be hard pressed to ever see them strugglin',
But even through these wins, one man always stood tall,
A man that played in 2,130 straight games, he withstood it all,
Aches and pains which would plague others didn't seem to phase him,
But even though he was once as strong as an ox, things suddenly became dim,
The once powerful Iron Horse, reduced to a weak sick man,
Stood in Yankee Stadium one last time, you can say it was his last stand,
Standing in front of 60,000 sobbering fans, he began to speak,
The soft spoken Gehrig belted out words which would make a nation weep,
"Fans for the past two weeks you have been reading about a bad break I got", he proclaimed as Gehrig held back the tears,
"Today I consider Myself the Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth", the fans let out one more cheer.
The Babe and Gehrig were now gone, a new legend took their place,
Joe Dimaggio now had the chore of keeping the Yankees in the race,
His bat was quicker than a train, his fluid swing compared to baseball gods,
He played the game majestically, so fluid like water in a pond,
Make no mistake about it though, Dimaggio was not alone,
Berra was behind the plate, while Scooter set the tone,
Two hall of famers who were winners and took their bows,
Yogi always 'observed a lot by watching", while Scooter belted "Holy Cow!".
Those Yankee teams during that era was dominating most,
World Series championships kept coming to New York, the city was allowed to boast,
That eras Yankees team was special in many ways,
They were so good that they had annual victory parades!
As the 50's and 60's rolled around, the Yankees were still great,
Wins were continuing to roll on out, while great players lined up at the gate,
As Joe D, Yogi, and the rest began to age a bit, there were recruits well on the way,
A Southern, blonde haired country boy was here to save the day.
Mickey Mantle came on the scene and showed talents which not many have ever had,
He had his doubts at first, and almost never made it, but he did, you can thank his dad,
After a tongue lashing, and a little tough love, Mickey made it to the bigs,
He offered the Yankees everything they could of wished for, as he became acclimated to his new digs.
He was made for this town as he captured the love and affection of all,
He would become the face of New York, while above the rest he stood tall,
And then another blonde fella come into the scene,
A "boring" personality explained by most, but for that he would redeem,
You see in 1961 he became a fabled figure, you can say a legend,
He belted 61 homeruns, as the Babe watched down from heaven,
That year was also another title for the Yankees, and New York,
It was becoming clock work, the champagne bottles didn't even need the cork!
The Yankees would then go into a daze,
Players were getting older, management not caring,
The Yankees were losing? No one predicted it, no ones that daring,
The transistional phase had begun, losing abound,
Yankees stadium was quiet, not even a sound.
But don't worry now, the Yankees would be back soon,
Thanks to the purchase of the club by a Cleveland business man, the Yankees would soon bloom,
George Steinbrenner his name, a no nonsense type of man,
Had one vision, and that was to bring a championship to New York, that was the plan.
The Yankees teams in the 70's were interesting to say the least,
It's surprising that the clubhouse never called the police,
How could the Yankees win like this? Fans yelled till they were blue,
This decade of Yankees were defined by the "Bronx Zoo".
Led by a fiery manager, Billy Martin just wanted to win,
No if ands or buts, if he didn't, it was sin,
If Steinbrenner didn't see results, he would become irate,
Which leads us to the comeback in 1978',
You had Reggie in right, Thurman the Captain, and Guidry on the mound,
How in the world could this team be 14 game down,
All the pieces were there, the recipe was just right,
The comeback was on, this team was ready for the fight,
Entering Boston the battle ground where history would be made,
Yaz, Rice, and the rest of the Sawx were as confident, they saw no fade,
The Dog days of August were gone, but there was a September collapse,
15-3, 13-2, this "unbelievable" story was suddenly coming true,
The Massacre in Boston in which it's now known, was predicted by few
The season between these two rivals would come down to 1 game,
A sunny October day where new legends would make their name,
You see in this rivalry expect the unexpected, Boston fans would never be content,
For you see on this day the Sox were crushed, by one Bucky Bleeping Dent,
The Zoo was closed, the Yankees had done it, another title in the books,
The 80's were a time where most Yankee fans would like to forget,
The hitting was there, the pitching was not, expectations were never met,
Although the championships weren't there, there was one shining light,
Donnie Basesball, as he was known kept the franchise shining bright,
A fan favorite who struck the ball with quickness, like a cheetah tackling a gazelle,
Every time the Yankees needed the hit, Mattingly would answer the bell,
Although Donnie never won a championship, his history in New York was set,
No matter what he does, or where he goes, the fans will never forget.
The 90's came and started out slow, many fans heads hung low,
Until 1995 came where the up start young Yankees finally went back to the show,
The Wild Card Yankees back in the mix, although they were eliminated in the first round,
It was just a glimpse of what was to come, Yankee Stadium finally had that "buzzing" sound,
96' came, and who comes in? Oh it was 'Clueless' Joe,
Yankees fans scratched their collective heads, and wondered "is this so?",
Little did we know that the 'Clueless' one was going to lead the team to Destiny,
For this era of the Yankees were getting prepared for the new era Dynasty.
Oneill, Bernie, Pettitte, and Mo, all leaders from the farm,
But one man, a tall lean shortstop stole the hearts of all Yankee fans with his charm,
Derek Jeter, this Yankees new captain lead the team with his invaluable play,
Even though he was just a rook, he would distinguish himself from the rest of the fray,
The Year 1996 was just the start of something special brewing in the Bronx,
From Boggs rounding the stadium on a horse, to the Yankees winning 4 championships on Fox,
Perfect games from Wells and Cone were the perfect cherry on top,
While The Rocket winning 300 and striking out 4,000, while the rainfall dropped,
Matsui smacking his first grand slam, to Mariano dominating for a decade,
To the Yankees gaining that extra bat to win the series with the David Justice trade,
Alfonso Soriano eating ice cream in the clubhouse, to smacking long homeruns in the game,
To being traded for the best ball player, Arod, who's destined for the Hall of Fame,
Andy Pettitte being ol reliable, while Tino launched the homers,
The Duke pitching the big games, While Wang has slowly took over.
Though, one faitful night rose above them all,
Game 7 in 2003, another hero would stand tall,
The Red Sox hopes would once again go up in flames toward to the Moon,
This night belonged to one Aaron Bleepin Boone.
You see this team is special, the memories run forever,
From the Babe, to Arod, the history is all glued together,
From Gehrigs speech, to Munsons death, tragedy has been there,
But over the past 100 years, one thing will always be clear,
Every person who has seen this team will always have something to tell,
The memories will run deeper than water in a well,
That's why we love this team who wears pinstripes of Navy Blue,
We will always love this Yankees team, for that we know is true.
Actually Redsox represent Evil and Satanism.. Actually Larry " Lucifer" Lucchinno is the Devil and Johny " Diablo" Henry . All Redsox and their players plead their allegiance to Lucchinno and Henry. The Red colors in Redsox uniform represent the Devil... The Navy Blue color represent = god and goodside..
Nice little speech....but you forgot 2004.
I appreciate the Yankee legend...it is second to none in sports....but it is nothing more than legend at this point. In fact, it seems that the Yanks have switched with the Sox, and have taken a page from the "snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory" book....it is now the sole property of the Yanks.
Yanks would have won the last 2 games vs. Detroit with decent starting pitching. The Tigers provided the nails all the Yanks had to do was bang the hammer and the Tigers season would have been over .
Hughes has shown bursts of what is yet to come, but for the most part has been inconsistent and unreliable. He needs to provide NY w/ well pitched games down the stretch.
I'm just stating the obvious.
Matsui was quoted in the USA Today "you just don't know what's going to happen."
That's what I have learned from this year.
At best half of our collective guesses will come out right.
Very nice post by Anonymous, very long but intelligent. One to ponder and save for sure.
Ant
Phil Hughes is a fine young pitcher. He aint gonna win every game...but he is clearly a shining light for the Yankees future. He needs to continue his development...and he needs to add some movement on his gas...he throws it too straight. I suspect he will, and I believe he will be a very good MLB pitcher for the foreseeable future.
Hello All,
Another tough loss. I really like what I see from Hughes but I am a little disappointed in his "stuff". We were told that this guy had above average stuff and was the best pitching prospect in the majors. I haven't seen it at all. He has good stuff but definitely not unbelievable stuff. I know we have only seen Joba for 12 innings or so but his stuff looks way superior to Hughes. All in all he is a very good pitcher but not the future number 1 starter we were led to believe. I see him as a very good number 3 starter in the future.
Dog, this is what I think. Remember the start against Texas? Hughes did have unbelievable stuff, routinely hitting 95, painting the corners, and throwing and unbelievable bender. After the injury, they messed with his mechanics to try and minimize the possibility of injuries in the future. He has not been the same since. They did the same think to King Felix in Seattle, and while he's been good, his stuff doesn't look anywhere as nasty as it did before the injury.
Since we're throwing in the towel tonight (Mussina is pitching), where do we go after losing 3 of 4 from the Tigers?
I am telling you this thing is going down to the wire. Last series of the season! I say they come up short but its too close to call with certainty. Think Camden Yards (Yankkee Stadium II) late September.
Keep focused on the Wil Card ball.....not the division.
Hughes was a little cocky so getting knocked around a bit may have actually been good for him. When you are considered the "golden boy" and savior for so long, maybe you start to believe it and yesterday may have humbled him a bit.
What's the weather like in NY today? I am hoping there is a massive rain cloud above the stadium that will wash out Moose's start so he can be skipped.
Jim A.
80-85 and sunny! Mussina has to ---- or get off the pot dont you think?
Did anybody here what Mussina said when he was asked if he would sit down for another pitcher to help the team? He actually said "Well who do they have that is better then me”. Can you believe he said that. This guy has to be the dumbest supposed smart guy that I know. He is a typical over intelligent person without any common sense. Give me common sense over intelligence any day. Of course I say that because it makes feel better about myself. LOL
Dog,
Whats the answer to his question?
Nudge,
He does indeed. The fact that he is saying that he is losing his "stuff" worries me. Most athletes will never admit to a diminished skill set and if Moose is admitting that he isn't very good anymore, obviously his confidence is a goner too.
Jim A.
The sad thing is that Cashman waited till the end of his contract IAW Yankee policy to negotiate with him so that they could have full awareness of his capabilities......and still they didn't get it right. Does that give you any confidence that they will get it right with Mariano and Jorge?
I don't think there was much of an answer because the writers were laughing to hard.....In all seriousness; I don't know what the answer was.
This weekened was so upsetting ... this whole stupid trip ... Angels and then losing while only giving up like 4 hits but 3 are HR's, and one an inside the park.
It hate Detroit's stadium. It's so stupid the way it is constructed ... It's like a pinball game ...
Why do we get so upset? Why do we spent decades following our favorite team? It is a part of the culture I suppose and brings continuity ... and happiness ... but lots of frustration.
Even the best team will lose 60 games a season.
Even the worst team will win 60 games a season.
Anyway, Hughes is a good pitcher and Joba too ... would be nice to see Kennedy and Horne up soon ... the future is bright. Sad for Torre's brother and George's health though ... we are all mortal!
Good to see you back Nudge!
BTW, I may be going to Ivory Coast to work by the way! I love Africa! Like Leo in Blood Diamond! Maybe it is where I have always belonged ...
You could always replace him with Igawa...or Karstens...or DeSalvo of HR's...
He sounds smarter than you think. He knows the Yanks have few options. Maybe next year though huh?
I bet Moose comes up big tonight. He is due for a good one.
My guess is that Moose and Schilling become teammates next season...for Tampa Bay.
Dont laugh....it could happen.
Lots of Ant Colonies in the Dark Continent.
I saw Mussina pitch at Stanford. I thought, wow this is another Tom Seaver.
He used to throw 90 on a slow radar gun.
Now he lost that fastball and the junk doesn't suffice.
Period.
I don't need to wait to see what he does in nice weather ... I don't need XYZ to tell me. I don't have eye cancer.
Just as I can see how Lilly's ball moves ...
He needs to hit the weight room in the off season and get stronger ...
Or he is going to relief or the NL or out of baseball.
I like Mussina a lot ... but we can't afford another Igawa in September.
WTF?
Casual,
That would double Tampa's payroll.
They will be good colonies.
Africa has so much darkness ... but also so much light ... and yes, very wicked people, but as far as the best people, probably more living saints than anywhere else.
Afro-pessimism is a misnomer.
Go Nudge, my Lindenhurst homey!
And Go Rick Ankiel!
What a story! The story of the summer.
The USA Today put it on the cover ... too bad Newsday ignored it ...
Kind of sad ...
Ant,
Newsday only prints bad news stories....unless its about Hillary then its wonderland time.
It would certainly increase it...but at the same time, the Rays have cut payroll and have some room to move. At the same time, how much do you think either Moose or Schilling will command next season?.....I'm thinking less than 10mm.
I think Moose is signed for like 11M for next year. The sad thing is that he would be an improvement to that pitching staff.
Is Moose signed thru next year?...my bad then. Thought he was in his walk year like Schilling.
Schilling has stated that he wouldnt mind TB..that he has lived in the area before and loves it...and that the opportunity to work with a young pitching staff would be rewarding....
I wonder how "rewarding" it will be having 50% of his starts blown by that AA bullpen?
I think Schilling is looking ahead...it is becoming increasingly clear the Sox are unlikely to resign him, unless he takes a huge discount...ala Wakefield ($4mm/yr-lifetime contract)...and it is even more unlikely that Curt th Mouth will do that.
When Schilling talks everyone listens.....but doesn't neccessarily beleive him!
I have a feeling Curt and Lowell are both gone.
They got the World Championship they wanted from Schilling and basically anything they get out of him this year is a bonus
It reminds me of Pedro's last year with the Sox where everyone knew he wasn't coming back, which made his World Series win all the sweeter. (Pedro is STILL my favorite Red Sox)
I equated the 2 years they got from Lowell with finding a $20 bill in your pants. Youk will be a thirdbaseman and they'll get a new firstbaseman.
I doubt Schilling will go to the Yankees. I'm guessing he'll go to a good pitchers NL park.
Maybe the Dodgers, Giants, or Padres.
Mussina is signed for one more year... but I think the Yanks should deal him to St. Louis.
Under Duncan, Mussina will win a Cy Young
Well,,,,Schillings place in Sox history is secure, and deservedly so. What he has meant to the Sox speaks for itself. But...like Nomar..like Petey...Like Damon...the current Sox brass seems to know when it is time to part ways. I dont expect Schilling back next season. The Sox are pretty well set at starting pitching without him...Beckett/Dice-K/Lester/Wakefield/Bucholz would seem to be a pretty strong rotation.
Duncans good...but not that good!
Nudge,
As I said, I used to deliver Newsday in the snow ...
It was always left wing but never so PC as to become almost disconnected from reality.
The cartoon of the Pope, abortion ads, prono ads ... it all went downhill ...
And Yes, All Praise Hillary the She Deamon!
Ha ha
If the Sox let Lowell slip away, it would be a huge mistake.....I can think of only one other guy who could replace his stats.
Sadly my first money was made also delivery this paper. I lost faith after the third or fourth incident they reported on that I witnessed....and they turned it around to make it what they wanted it to be rather than what happened.....interview 50 people and use the one opinion that paints the story you want to print rather than the story that happened.
Moose wouldn't move to Tampa, he'd retire first, which is probably the right move but he has a year left on his contract so he'll soak the Yanks again next year.
Schilling will be in Boston next year. I don't think he wants to tarnish the legacy he built there just to continue pitching. Judging from his recent performances, he's not done yet. Wait, I bet the Yanks sign him for 4 years!
Nudge- Moose actually had a decent year last year, but your right I wouldn't have given him two years. What we saw in the playoffs from him last year is the true Moose- no guts.
Casual,
I like Lowell but he is a bit long in the tooth now. He could be on the edge of his drop off years. I guess it depends on how long a deal he is looking for. I loved him back in his NL days. Sox got a gift with him.
Jim A,
The problem with Moose and the numbers is that his production late in the season the past few years has not been good. That could have been interpreted as a warning sign for the future. I agree he will milk what he can out of the Yanks.
Maybe if Arod does not resign, the Yaks can pick up Lowell. He will be back where he started.
Yaks?? Was that a freudian slip?
The Yanks don't need a broken down 3B on the downside of his career. It takes balls to play in NY and Lowell is short one.
I was just having fun there. I like Lowell, seems like a great guy but he's not the answer for the Yanks.
Jim A,
I agree that would be a risky signing. The type that has gotten them in the roster box they are in. Moving Cano is still a good option if they can get a 2B with ability. The removal of that defensive liability at 2B is additional by subtraction. He cant be lacsidaisical at 3B as he is at second.
I'm telling you... trade Moose to St Louis
That guy there made Jeff Weaver into a World Series stud
Jeff Weaver!
The guy with all the mental toughness of Billy Bibbit, and he threw lights out in a World Series clincher!
Just imagine what he could do with a talented pitcher like Mike Mussina
Broken down?....please Jim..Lowell is the smoothest fielding 3Bman I've ever seen. His stoke is back and he is a legitimate threat....and at 33, he aint that long in the tooth. I hope the Sox lock him up for 3-4 years.
Billy Babbit...I think. Hows St Louis' pitching staff this year?
Lowell was supposed to be the expensive garbage collected to get Beckett.
Instead he's been our best run producer and a great Red Sox... but signing a player like that to a long term contract is kinda sorta suicide.
Theo has shown that he'll let even popular iconic players walk before they get hurt... and emotionally I wanted Damon and Pedro back, but when you see that Damon is now a part time DH/LF and Pedro has pitched as many major league games as I have this year... maybe he knew what he was doing.
The Drew and Renteria signings still suck
It seems that alot of folks keep chirping about moving Youks to 3b and getting a "legitimate" 1bman....I mean c'mon...Youks is playing GG caliber defense at 1B, and he is a grinder at the plate...how much more "legitimate" can you get?
If it were me, I wouldnt touch the Sox infield for the next 3-4 years....it is just fine the way it is.
Just dont fall into the trap of the preconceived out come. Those players that leave and have an injury...it cannot be transferred to if they stay. If I cross the street on this block and get hit by a car...it doesnt transfer into getting hit by a car where ever I cross the street. Circumstance is as important to out come as any other factor.
Yanks play in Detroit tonight, Jim A. They are not home.
The differance, sully, is that Theo jettisoned those guys at the right time....at the time when it was clear to him that they were spending as much time on the dl as they were playing...clearly players in decline. Lowell does not fit that picture....he is a 3Bman, so he stands far less chance of being injured...he owns the best fielding percentage for a 3Bman EVER!. His stroke has not slowed at all, and he is built to hit in Fenway. He is 33...he has at least 3 more solid years in front of him.
Far different than Petey, Nomar, Damon, and others the Sox brass parted ways with.
If you ask me...allowing the possibility of another team in the AL east to sign Lowell would be far more "suicidal". I'd cringe every time he came back to Fenway.
MLB POLL:
Where will the AL Wild Card come from this season?
Central 3361 votes (8%)
East 31483 votes (75%)
West 7254 votes (17%)
Gee...was that poll done on the streets of Manhattan by chance?
Nudge,
Getting hit by a car at his point wouldn't be such a bad idea. The Sox just had batting practice for the last 4 games in Chicago and have a nice day off today. Verlander is going to eat us up and spit us out! We limp back to NY and then get swept by a very confident team thats all warmed up and rested to stick it to us!
Whoa is us, whoa is us. When do we play Tampa again? KC? I know we get them again, so that's good! Then we can all feel good again: The Yankees can beat the last place teams! Hooray!!!!!!
The Poll was done on the Internet at MLB.com (the official site of Major League Baseball) -- www.mlb.com.
Go check it out for yourself, Casual Observer, so you don't sound so foolish.
If the Sox can keep the momentum going offensively ...they are going to be very tough to beat...but, playing the Yankees at the stadium is far different than playing Ozzie's boys in Chicago. As a Sox fan, I'd be thrilled if the Sox take two of three.
Look knuckle-dragger...the only one who consistently makes an idiot of him/herself in this particular thread, as well as the past 2, is you. You hold onto your dreams hotshot...it's all you have.
LET'S GET THIS SERIES STARTED ALREADY!
MLB took a poll....seasons over. Jump to playoffs. Polls are never wrong.
DEWEY WINS!!
HA!
Best Thomas Dewey reference of the day
Wow. All the poor guy does is supply some information from the internet and you all jump on him. Obviously the majority of the people who voted were from the east coast....Ok they were from New York.....does that really matter? Haha
The poll was for Yankees fans to show them how popular the Yankees are and how much faith many people have in them, that's all...that was the point of posting the poll here. You Yankee-hating morons are pitiful, disgraceful. Why don't you get your selfish, nasty @SSe$ over to the f**king Red Sox site where you belong.
Keep rubbing it in, Red Sox fans. If it makes your day, keep posting away like little kids in a candy shop. The tables will turn, they always do, and we will make sure you get yours...although I know you sad people will disappear from this site as soon as your pathetic Red Sox start losing again.
Dog,
You mean "useless information". Besides people in Seattle are too busy protesting Starbucks for not using organically raised milk or something like that.
Sounds like anon has spent a bit too much time INSIDE Starbucks.
Thank you for proving my point.
Fish...Barrel...Bang!
MLB.com is the official site of Major League Baseball that people access from AROUND THE ENTIRE WORLD. It's not a NY site, you freaking dummies.
Anon,
FYI....@ and $ are not letters of the alphabet.
Nudge & Casual Observer are two idiots trying to prove they are smart. Two dumb@sses.
Get a life Nudge you dumb jerk. Of course they are not letters of the alphabet, you idiot.
Dummies know that!
Ahhhh...such a pity to see such unfounded resentment and hollow hatred at such a tender age.
BTW anon...why ARE you home from school today?
Time to get the hell out of here while Nudge & Casual Observer try to act like intelligent adults only to make total morons of themselves...Proceed Idiots.
Anon,
#esh&kly @qu@wh*^ish $*martk$@>o
Okay
Anonymous,
I am pretty sure they get it. The more you talk about it the more they are going to bust your chops. It is really all done in jest. You and I know that even though that poll was on MLB.com the majority of the people who voted were most likely from the Metropolitan area. Being a Yankee fan I personally like to here information like that but most of the bloggers like to deal in reality not polls. Don't take anything personal. That is one thing you will have to learn if you are going to last on this blog.
The Dog bites! But gently.
Let's all relax everyone
The Red Sox are winning the division
The Yankees will probably will win the wild card
And then this October we will hear some REAL smack talking
But let's get through this Mussina/Verlander game and then get to the Sox/Yankees series!
The Dog bites! But gently.
Dog,
You are correct sir. It is not eant to be personal, but anon has a history of making personal attacks on anyone who doesnt put on the blinders regarding the current state of the Yankees....why, I bet at this moment he is taking his frustration out on the family dog...chanting "26 titles" with each kick he delivers.
Some people should take up a different hobby, if watching baseball becomes that painful to them.
Nudge,
It all depends on what the bitch wants! Get it...Bitch.. girl dog..Haha. I kill myself sometimes.
How disgraceful is it that Yankee fans can't come to a Yankee site and talk about their team and post some interesting information without being bashed and ridiculed by sick Yankee haters. These people are sad. Their motives are so obvious it makes Yankee fans want to puke.
U$ele$$ St@t of the d@y
There is only one active player that ranks in the top 100 in triples.
Compare that to the active players in the other categories.
Anon, please tell me what our motives are.
I thought it was to talk baseball and refer to what is actually happening on the field.
Evidently we have another motive. Curious to what it is
I dont know the schedule, going forward, for the Yanks...do they play Seattle again?...probably not...what about Cleveland, Detroit, or Minnesota?.....could be a determining factor to the post season, no?
Sully,
It is to post cut and pasted comments from Red Sox blogs prefaced by.....Stupid Red Sox fan.
Isn't it obvious.
Ah...
How silly of me
Casual,
The big ones are as follows.... against Sox--6 against Orioles--3 against Seattle.
Redo..
Casual,
The big ones are as follows.... 6 against Sox--6 against Orioles--3 against Seattle.
In September, other than two w/Oakland and 4 w/Minnesota (all at Fenway) to finish up the regular season, the Sox play just AL east rivals....10 away games, and 17 home games....this would seem to bode very well for the Sox.
