Mike Mussina is already out of the game. I'd have to surmise that he won't be starting again five days from now after that outing.
Mussina gave up six earned runs in three innings on nine hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly (which was a deep fly ball to center field that Melky Cabrera ran down).
The score's now 7-0 Tigers, as the first player Edwar Ramirez faced, Placido Polanco, homered.

my bad...
This is not good!
SEAN HENN WASN'T SENT DOWN!!!
HAHAHAH
BATTING PRACTICE
GOOD MOMENTUM FOR TOMORROW
Tigers' line so far: 8 runs, 13 hits
and they just keepa-commin'.
Sean Henn really sucks!!!
As does ramirez,
As does Moose!!!
9-0.
Henn's thrown 13 pitches. 5 for strikes.
He blows!!!
We'll be 72-59 after this fiasco.
The Tigers will be 71-60.
Can't win games without pitching.
Mussina Is done, time to DFA him. Bring up Britton and Kennedy, and option Henn after you feed him the pipe tohight.
That headline might be quite prescient, Kat.
This is tough to watch! I'm hoping the Angels sweep
Didn't have to look into my crystal ball to call this one!
That was so predictable.
Did the Yankee Brass think Mussina was really going to be any different? I mean really?
Expect a sweep in the Bronx the next 3 nights!
You're done!
The Red Sox are already asleep in the hotels rooms. They knew they could goto bed after the 3rd. Oh and by the way....they were all cheering at the score!
It's time to pull the plug on Mussina. Bring up ANYONE from the farm. We don't know what we'll get at the ML level, but we DO know what we get from Mussina, and it's bad.
Even it is costs us the AL East, some major league experience will be a good thing for the young arms coming up!
Wow, that's honestly surprising news.
If he's getting pulled from the rotation, the coaches must see something that can't be fixed.
You don't just give up on a 250 game winner because he's going through a slump.
Perhaps the staff know he's hurt or just lost it mentally.
Bad news, considering we're paying him $11m next year.
Kat,
If your feeling is true, who do you see taking his spot?
I read somewhere that Horne and Kennedy have reached their limits for the year.
Might they move Joba to the rotation?
I read Kennedy cannot be called up because he is not on the 40 man roster.
Mussina seems done the way Cone was in 2000.
This is ugly.
WOW! Mussina looked pathetic. He had that lost look on his face. I almost feel bad for him. Almost. They need to make a move. What Im not sure. But something has to change. And Henn has got to go. He sucks! And a few hits and runs would be nice.
I wonder if a DL stint would help Mussina. His fastball was 84 MPH for crying out loud. How can he fool hitters with a curve ball that isn't much slower than his fastball?
It's the sad end to a pretty decent career.
So who can join this rotation that would offer any help, as Kennedy is not being called up. Do you have Karstens or Rasner offer any help? Clippard?
None of these options looks very good to me.
Hey Might as well wait til Saturday when roster expands. If you madea the playoffs you really wouldn't want to go with a kid like Kennedy. Face it you are stuck with what you got.Tonight the Yanks got a taste of their own Medicine. 24 games til Elimination. Oh get to see DiceK after getting home tonight around 3AM. Life is good...... Hey you alays have 1978 and your 26 Title to keep you warm....
Send Mussina back to Baltimore!!! We'll take him!!!
Game over. Yankees season been over. Might I say "DESIGNATED FOR ASSIGNMENT" for the has been and never was well over priced and under productive aged players and "let the kids play" GEORGE.
Yankees suck!!!!!HAHAHA
Red Sox will win the world series baby!!!!!
Fork him!
So Mussina's question has been answered about who is better than him. hopw about the LL WS !
Would it not be better to have Joba pitch 5 or 6 innings with 4 days rest as he was doing in the minors especially in light of the team's lack of SP. I wonder if he could bounce back to SP after the time in the bullpen.
Mike Mussina has no injuries its a 38 year old who had great stuff and average fastball but does not possess these tools anymore. I believe he should be kept at long relief for his last year on his contract because who would want him now.
Give Joba his starts. 6'3", 230lbs. should be able to handle 4 or 5 starts.
The good news is still 2 behind in the loss column to Seattle.
