Pitching duel
It's been a pitching duel here, and we are headed to extra innings.
Both starting pitchers -- the Angels' John Lackey and the Yankees' Roger Clemens -- allowed one earned run in eight innings. Lackey gave up five hits and struck out a career-high 11, with no walks and a hit batsman. Clemens gave up five hits, walked one and struck out three.
Bobby Abreu drove in the Yankees' only run with a double. Jeff Mathis's second-inning groundout to third base scored the Angels' only run.
Scot Shields and Mariano Rivera have each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

Please let's score and win already!!!
AND CAIRO LOSES US THE BALLGAME! YANKEES LOSE! THHHHEEEEE YANKEES...LOSE!!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow
Molina didn't run to third on a bunt?
How slow is that guy?
5 errors.Melky strikes out 5 times.Jeter can't hit the ball out of the infield.Put the screws in &turn them.Where's my Makita?
Melky and Cairo, what are you doing?!?!?
One other thing get that utility infielder off 1B all right all ready. He's a disgrace to the position.I forgot we need his run production of 8 RBI.
Why is a free swinging inexperienced youngster batting 2nd for the NY Yankees?????
13 innings- 9 position players used- that's all you need to know. What are Thompson and Phillips doing here if they can't beused in a close game? No depth, no playoffs.
Clemens should be 4-1 if for Yankees offense not scoring for him
He pitch well against mets
Against Orioles and Rockies - He keep them in the ballgame
He pitch 8 innings 1run against First place Angels - The Yankees Offense didn't score.
Again the stiffs come back and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Nice baserunning in the second inning by the cowardly Abreu. If that stiff(Which one? Abreu)Abreu was hitting Melky " I swing at everything" Cabrera would not be batting second. Jeter would be. Then of course we have someone at first whose an utility infielder. Man, Phillips you waited this long and you are playing well and now you are out with a neck problem? If i was you i would have to have a broken neck to not be on that field. Are you hungry? This is beyond frustrating. Our last a bat have already been written ad nausem on this blog. How about this for a second guess. If Damon was running on Jeter's hit he would of beaten the play at second. But Torre was on top of everything like always.
The play that cost us the game was when Robinson Cano faield to do what the Angels do best. He couldn't get Abreu from 2nd to 3rd with an out in the 2nd and grounded to 3B. Had he pulled the ball and moved Abreu, Abreu scores in Cairo's single and we're up 2-0. Think that's not huge?
We lack sorely in fundamental baseball. Melky's 13th ining at bat was futile, too. Why can't we bunt?!?!?!?!?!
NienrYank
You hit the nail on the head !
Also:
Pitchers keep pounding Cano on the inside corner off the plate with breaking balls pitches that are far from being strikes and he keeps swinging at them.Cano makes no adjustments, guesses to much.Good pitching just chews up this lineup.Torre should never ever ask Abreu to bunt.
Does anyone remember the last time Jeter got a game winning hit late in a game?? I can't recall! Was it the 2001 WS ?Seems like it!Jeter grounded into his 11 DP today.
I would really hate to think where this team would be without AROD.
Ruse,
Just a reminder, but good pitching chews up every lineup. It's not just limited to the Yankees.
Secondly, you know you're off the deep end when you start ripping Jeter for his lack of clutch hitting late in the game.
He won a game with a hit in the 9th inning just a couple of weeks ago.
Cano drives me crazy sometimes with his mental mistakes, but I'm not ready to give up on him.
