News and notes

Here's some followup/reaction to a few things that happened yesterday.

Jorge Posada, who said it looked like some people were "going through the motions" after yesterday's loss, told me today: "That was just anger. A lot of things come out when you're angry."
I get the sense he meant exactly what he said, although he said today he was speaking out of frustration.

Scott Proctor's another guy who was very frustrated. He burned his glove and some other personal items yesterday on the gravel in front of the dugout after the field. Proctor seemed surprised such a big deal was being made of it.
Asked if he felt better, he said, "If I go out there and start throwing shutout innings, then that'll be the case."

Reliever Edwar Ramirez was brought up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. To make room, the Yankees optioned Chris Basak to Scranton and moved Jeff Karstens to the 60-day disabled list. Ramirez is a great feel-good story. The 26-year-old was out of baseball for all of 2004, and again released by the Angels last year, after which he played in an independent league. He's been fantastic this year in the minor leauges for the Yankees. He had a 0.54 ERA in nine games and 16 2/3 innings at Double-A Trenton. He then had a 0.67 ERA in 15 games and 26 2/3 innings at S/W-B.
One big change Ramirez has made recently is adding a changeup, which is probably his best pitch. He said he was "surprised" and "excited" to be brought up.

"Bunting Bobby" is back in the 7-hole, huh?

They should just sit this loser down and play, errrr, ANYBODY?

Guillotine, Guillotine!!!

Hire Girardi as manager. Let Torre retire.

Give Cashman an extension.

Give A-Rod an extension.

Bring back Mariano.

Bring back Posada.

Trade for Teixeria- without giving up Hughes or Tabata. (Kennedy, Marquez, Melky, and some others will do.)
Try to hold onto Joba and/or Horne.

Sign Ichiro, let Abreu go.

Sign Gagne.

Trade for a backup catcher.

Trade Farnsworth.

Try to trade Damon.

Call up Ramirez and Britton.

This team will look so differently in 2009, where we’ll mostly have homegrown players, thankfully. Guys like Mussina and Giambi will be gone.

Well, as bad as we have hit in the last 2 weeks this game is over 6-0 in the 2nd.

This hurts here and here - (points to his head and his heart).

What the hell is going on?Just when you think it can't get any worse it does.Torture.

GITMO
I'm w/ you!

This team is following Cashman's lead. Doing absolutely nothing.

They flat out quit on us.

Nice way to ruin my Sunday morning!

Hey, WE are showing a little heart. Just keep chippin away.

As I have indicated in prior comments. The Yankees are just like an old car with quality parts just breaking down in many places.

My wish list of future events are Torre to finish out the year. He deserves not to be fired. My choice of mgrs. to replace him are Girardi, Pena and Mattingly in this order. Trade or release Meyers, Viscaino, Farnsworth, Nieves, Abreu and Damon. Start to implement transitional changes to the lineup. We must know if our younger players are the answer. I would play Cano, Melky and Phillips till their feet ached for a dayoff. When healthy Hughes should be inserted into the rotation with Igawa as long man. Igawa's focus lasts about 3 to 4 innings. Henn and Britton brought up to the bullpen and used. If injuries occur to any of our rotation which consists of a 35,38 and 44 yr olds, Clippard and whoever is healthy on the farm excluding Rasner and Karstens. I don't believe these guys have the makings of starting pitchers in the AL. Somehow in moving of the deadwood in our bullpen if we can acquire a backup catcher, this would be great.

These moves will not help the team achieve the playoffs but keep the team out of chaos with the field mgr. and GM still inplace. Also, Arod will get a feel for the 2008 team and the Yankees with their younger players and the changes that are needed. No more guess work on the talent that we have.

Tex. is a very good young player but if Arod opts out or is unsigned will just be another part of the puzzel needing assistance for 2008. It will not be pretty but necessary because this 2007 team assembled will not look very similar to 2008 that I'm sure especially if your 32+.

Besides all this, we need a leadoff man. Melky does not have the discipline or bat control to get it done. If, Pettitte decides to call it quits and not reup for 2008 then 2/3 of the SP has to be replaced. As I said" it won't be pretty" unless answers are found from the remainder of this year.

The Yankees should not delay the transition.
