« Yankees lose 7-0 | Main | Igawa sent down »

hello from baltimore

Busy travel day today. Here's a tidbit that I don't know if it means anything or not. When I walked into the ballpark at Camden Yards a few minutes ago, Kei Igawa, his interpreter and his suitcases were on the way out. Stay tuned for more info.

Perhaps my dream is coming true? He's being traded to Texas for Teixeira!!!!

Goodbye Chipmunk Face! Have a nice day and don't come back. I hear there's a nice resort area waiting for guys like you. It's down in Florida and called Pavanoville.

Rick,

More likely he's being sent to the minors so the Yankees can call up Karstens as a long reliever - just a thought.

igawa sent to AAA chris basak called up

Chip,

They called up Basak to take Alvin's place.

Guys,

I just read a story on MSNBC's website and i thought that you might want to check it out.

However, It's required reading for Spartagus

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19985251/

The title of the article is: Red Sox on verge of Mickelson-like collapse?

Yeah, after winning 6 of their last 7, gaining ground on the Yankees, having Ramirez's bat come alive in a big way, Schilling's return on the way and the bullpen as deep as its ever been after beating the Indians 3 of 4... yeah, my boys realllllly look bad now.

Looks like SOMEONE misses the Curse!

Igawa stinks but don't be cruel. he probably tries but the bottom line he is not real good...

Sully really why post here. It is like me posting on a site for a group I disagree with.. what is the point??

Great you like the sox go post with your buddies!!!

Chip

I know, just having some fun...

Why in the world did they call up Basak? I guess he will be a good DFA when real help arrives.

Sully,

I didn't write it.
I just read it.

besides, didn't anyone tell you? It's not the Curse of the Bambino. You guys exorcized that one.

It's "The Frazee Curse".

You guys haven't heard that one?

It's the curse where Frazee practically wiped out a perennial championship team (5 WS in 15yrs?), and gave them all to the Yanks.

Stuart,

Sully's a good guy and he's not a malicious-type Red Sox fan. He gives the Yanks props when they deserve them and he likes us better than Red Sox bloggers!

So, either we're all great people or Red Sox Blogs are cesspools.

Cleveland trades for Lofton, and the Yanks promote Basak, leaving the great Chamberlain "on the farm". One team gets stronger, the other treads water. 2 weeks ago, Torre said the Yanks were going to reduce the number of pitchers on the 25 man roster? I get the feeling there are differing opinions in the Yankee organization on how to fortify this roster for a pennant run.

Roy,

Something's up, no doubt about it.

Maybe Cashman is waiting to deal Farnsworth and/or Proctor before calling up Chamberlain.

Who's spot did Henn take?

I smell something in the wind too. Does Wiggy sound about right?

That idiot at MSNBC needs to take a look at the schedule.

Mickelson isn't playing the Devil Rays 15 times.

FIFTEEN GAMES WITH WITH THE

D
E
V
I
L

R
A
Y
S

Oh yes...

Lest we forget the D-Rays will have that rejuventated lights out bullpen from their Scott Proctor aquisition!!!

Need I remind everyone that the D-Rays played the Red Sox tough last season.

The BoSox were just 10-9 against the D-Rays and just two of those games were after the Boston Massacre II when their season essentially collapsed.

That doesn't mean that the Red Sox won't win their fair share of games this season, but I wouldn't be shocked to see them go 10-5 this time around.

Stuart

People like Sully. Myself included.

He's one of us now.

Don't be such a fascist.

Phucker,

I agree. I don't believe that the Red Sox are gonna collapse. Their pitching is really good this year and their 8th and 9th inning guys have been lights out.

I think that the Yanks can catch them, but we're going to have to keep up the good ball that we've been playing lately. Any significant losing streak and we go the way of Kei Igawa!

I just wanted to bust on Sully a bit. :-)

Thanks Michael and John G.

By the way, it wasn't "The Curse of the Bambino" or "Frazee."

It was those awful Yawkeys.
Why they are revered is anyone's guess.

I wrote about my hatred for Tom Yawkey and his family on "The Nosebleeds" today

http://www.thenosebleeds.com/2007/07/yawkeys-ruined-red-sox-for-generations.html

Most of the 86 years of futility was under their watch when they turned away players like Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays (!!!)

2 years after they sold the Red Sox... they won the World Series. Coincidence?

Bust on me all you want John G.

I'll cry into my pillow (and the best record in baseball and the biggest division lead.)

Here's a question:

Why do they need to use Rivera in the suspended game? Couldn't they use a pitcher that is more apt to be starting a game and have them throw an inning and a third? Who's throw day is it? Wang's?

How is that different than bringing in Pettite or Clemens from the pen earlier this year?

And can they use players who werent on the roster when they originally played the game like Molina?

Sully,

Yawkey didn't own the team in 1919, did he? I thought that Frazee owned them.

Yawkey didn't like Black ballplayers which explains why the Red Sox were the last team to add an African-American to the major league roster.

Henry and Luchino (sic) did a fantastic job with that team. I have to admit that.

On another note:

I just heard on Kay's show that several teams are interested in Alvin. This is a Buster Onley quote.

Several teams? Are they watching the same guy as we all have been?

FYI John... I like some Red Sox blog boards, but they fall so quickly into panic or homophobia that it turns me off.

Besides, it's more fun to talk baseball with good baseball fan and then have an occaisional dig.

I am very liberal in my politics... but I hate hanging around with liberals. They drive me bonkers. I guess I like hanging out with Republican Yankee fans.

(It makes sense I voted for Guiliani twice)

Sully

2 run lead 6 outs for a W.

Why use Rivera? LOL

Sully,

Rivera will be used in the 9th inning in the suspended game unless he has to bail someone out in the 8th.

My money is on Proctor to start the 8th inning because he's well rested and Vizcaino isn't eligible.

Torre's theory is not to screw around or experiment in the first game of a DH and will go for the kill when it's there for the taking because you never know what's going to happen in the nightcap.

He won't mess around or experiment with guys pitching on their throw day.

My money is on Proctor and Mo -- just like any other game.

Frazee owned the team when they sold off the players (including Ruth) to the Yankees.

But from 1933-1976 Tom Yawkey owned the club. From 1976 to 1992 his wife ran it. From 1992 until the end of the 2001 season, the family ran it.

Notice what they didnt win in that entire period of time?

A World Series.
Notice that the Red Sox's racial record was downright pitiful right through to the early 1990s... and didn't change until Mo Vaughn emerged in 1993... a year after Mrs Yawkey's death.

Coincidence?

The Yankees should put Tom Yawkey's bust in Monument Park for all the generations he made sure the Red Sox were inferior

John that has to be a joke.

Not even the Nationals could possibly want Kei Igawa not even if we gave him to them and payed all but one dollar of his contract. Seriously he's an embarrassment.

I don't mean this in as an insult but I literally think he has shamed Japanese Baseball and should apologize.

Good question Sully on Molina. Maybe the Yanks can't use him in the suspended game.

As far as Rivera, He wasn't on the mound when the game was suspended. It was Myers, I believe. I'm not sure if Torre will use Mo, but these are desperate times and we need all the W's that we can get. It is Wang's throw day so if Torre decides to use the starter thing again, my guess is that Chien gets the call.

Yeah, you've got the lead, but it ain't over yet. All the Yanks have to do is pick up at least 2 games between now and August 28th. Then we're in striking distance.
That's assuming all of the stars line up and Darth Vader is still rooting for "The Empire".

On why so many teams are interested in Alvin? I heard that these teams are thinking of changing their pre and post game meals.

The Yanks can use Molina in the suspended game.

It probably won't happen, though, because Posada had the night off last night and should be rested.

I only ask about Rivera because doesn't he have a set routine?

Doesn't he nap for the first 4 innings, loosen up in the 5th and is ready by the 9th?

Should the Yanks F with that routine?

Just curious

Phucker,

First off, would you rather be called Michael?

No, it's not a joke. I just heard it again on Kay's show. He mentioned that Buster Olney is reporting this on ESPN.

BTW it's pouring in Baltimore!
What else is new?

Sully,

Yeah, I thought that Yawkey bought the team during the depression.

If he was so hated by The Nation, why did they name that street Yawkey Way?

If these games get suspended this weekend, The Yanks are going to have to go back there in October and play a 4 game tournament!

In 1 day!

Sully

I don't care if he sits in clubhouse, shoots heroine, eats cheetos while watching reruns of the Cosby Show as long as he takes the ball and locks it down nomsayin...

John

Our very esteemed female cohorts here on the site encouraged me to use my given name but I still have a fondness for "Phucker" so it's cool either way.

John G,

The love some Bostonians have for the Yawkeys is mind boggling.

Not speaking for The Nation.
Speaking for myself.

The Yawkeys sucked and conspired to make the Red Sox crappy for generations and ridding the stench of the Yawkeys from the team was the greatest thing to happen to the team since Carl Mays clinched the 1918 World Series

Thanks Sully.

I guess that they're lumped with the O'Malleys.

The O'Malley's at least tried to put the best team on the field

True. They're hated for different reasons, but still hated just the same.

Rick Keyes: Is the pressure of the season getting to you. Your comments about Alvin were not like you. He's gone until Sept. or if someone slips on the soap in the shower or Cashman grows a pair and leaves him down on the farm as the 49 million dollar AAA pitcher, the first of his kind in the world. As only the Yankees can make this claim.

Sully, I wonder if Viggo and Liv Blog about you and the Mrs ...

That would be pretty weird.

Go Yankees!

Larry M

Sorry if I upset you. But, I can't stand to even see his chipmunk face on this team. He is a demoralizing albatross!
