As everyone is caught up in trade talk, understandably so, talk from people in the game is that things are pretty quiet. The last few years, with the wild card and more teams believing they are in the race, most trades tend to take place in the couple days leading up to July 31st. We'll see if this year holds true to that.

ATTENTION GARLAND ADVOCATES!!!
I am in SHOCK about what I am hearing from so many of you regarding this potential Garland aquisition.
ESPECIALLY YOU CHIP!!
Can any of you who support this move please tell me how "Jon" is going to fill our glaring lack of a set-up man?
I'm sorry, did I miss something?
Did "Jon" magically tranform overnight from an "average" AL Starting pitcher to a proven closer who happens to be on a weak team that is out of the race and clearly tradeable?
Did they chop off his right arm and replace it with Eric Gagnes or Octavio Dotels?
Did Brad Lidge get plastic surgery and grow a soul patch and is now a Jon Garland imposter!!!
Oh...That's right I forgot about the "MASTER PLAN" where we bring up Joba to be Mo's handoff man...HAHA Sorry...Don't mind me I just wasn't aware that Edwar Ramirez and Joba Chamberlain are not just minor league prospects with high ceilings and potential. No...They sure certainties and the "ace in the hole"-(THE MOST IMPORTANT HOLE ON THIS TEAM!!!) They are missing pieces we've needed for the better part of this until recently sub .500 season.
IT GOES LIKE THIS
1. EIGHTH INNING GUY
2. SEVENTH INNING GUY

10.RIGHT HANDED(BAT IF WE CAN GET ONE IT'S A LUXURY)
Another starter unless he's just a pawn for the acquiring the 1st two on the list is absolutely ABSURD!!!
Are we going to cut Mussina?
Is Hughes not coming back?
And before you say it...I Don't want to hear that "Hughes only pitched one game he might comeback and get shelled after all he's still a rookie blah blah"
Our bullpen outside of Viscaino-aka "The Artist formerly known as Viscaidiot"
Has been the worst in the MLB
A 27yr mediocre Jon Garland does not fix that.
I agree that middle relief has been the biggest need. But Garland has been a solid pitcher until this year and who knows, maybe it had more to do with the team's medicore performance.
Having an experienced pitcher under 30 in your rotation couldn't hurt (especially knowing Clemens is gone next year and Mussina is toast) and how can he be worse than Mussina and Igawa?
Oh yeah, Hughes only pitched one game he might comeback and get shelled after all he's still a rookie blah blah.
(Saying blah blah doesn't make it not true)
Sully,
Exactly what I have been saying about all these "prospects" - potential doesn't win games much less chapionships.
Garland is an innings eater averages close to 7 innings per start. That might translate into saving the bullpen 2-3 outs per Garland start.A lot of Yankee SP have a difficult time making it through 6 IP.+ He is a decent pitcher w/ years of experience.
But always pushing the chips to the center can lead to untradable players.
Garland would be like my boys picking up Beckett.
Good pick up, worth more than one year.
I believe the Yankees are still paying Carl Pavano next year.
"Win every year" for you
Sully
Having Garland "can't hurt" if indeed the purpose for the such addition is to eliminate Mike "personal catcher" Mussina.
I have a feeling that this move is not intended for such, hence my frustration.
And yes Hughes is a Rookie but with a kid of his caliber talent it's only a matter of time and as Yankee fans we have to hope it's now. The whole Yankee organization as a whole has staked it's future on this kid otherwise I'd be looking at Mark Texeira right now and not Andy Phillips.
I for one believe he is going to be an integral part of any run this team happens to make this year.
As he goes the Yankees playoff hopes go.
We're gonna need him in a big way come mid August when we'll be facing MLB teams again and not these AAA squads.
If Hughes pitches up to his ability I like our chances.
PS.
He just finished his third rehab start at AAA

i agree on hughes
and the same can be said for giambi in 2-3 weeks as well.
if both those 2 can be effective for the playoff push, yanks become a more dangerous team.
