Smooth win for Yankees

The Yankees got a crisp 2-1 win over the Oakland A's.Mike Mussina pitched seven solid innings, allowing one run on six hits and a walk. He has a 2.56 ERA in his last five starts. Kyle Farnsworth got into a jam, giving up two singles and recording two outs in the eighth, but still looked angry to be taken out in favor of Mariano Rivera. That didn't please Joe Torre too much, though he wouldn't go into detail. Rivera shut the A's down, striking out three of five batters. He also got a popup and hit one batter.
Offensively, Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada each drove in a run. Rodriguez reached base four times, with three hits (including two doubles) and a walk.

"If it's Hatteberg or Weathers for Horne then it's a great deal for the Reds. If it's Dunn then I want Joba Chamberlain along with Horne and another prospect."

Cooper

"Love that K rate. Wow!! For a starter --that's awesome."

"Sign me up. I'll trade any of Weathers, Conine, Hatte, Lohse, etc. to get a good arm like that in the system. Heck on a generous day I'd give two of the above for an arm like that. I like Chamberlain and Betances better but for the talent we'd be giving up Horne might be the best we can expect back."[/quote]

Lol..... Reds Fans are dreaming....Horne and Chambelain are off limits. No Thanks..

Bergen Record- Bob Klapisch on Robinson Cano:

Without the numbers to back him up, Cano's cool becomes transparent; his flaws are more obvious today than a year ago. He doesn't run particularly well. He doesn't get on base enough. He doesn't swing at enough strikes.

The Yankees, however, insist they have no problem with Cano's future or his intensity level. Cashman says: "I know for a fact that kid cares about us winning and losing and the way he's playing. If anything, he cares too much. He's trying too hard."

The numbers seem to bear out that sentiment, as he sees only 3.37 pitches per plate appearance, the fewest among the Yankees. The majority of Cano's at-bats are over in just one or two pitches. Call it anxiety or pressure -- or fear of striking out -- but Cano hacks at the first good pitch he sees, a philosophy that runs counter to the Yankees' system-wide indoctrination.

Why, exactly, does Cano become so anxious? The second baseman shook his head and said: "Because I'm trying to make things happen all at once. I know it's a bad thing. I know I have to be more patient. I'm trying."

Would someone explain to me why Yankee fans are calling for Teixeira?

Seriously, what lunatic would look at this sub .500 in July non conending team and say "You've got a first baseman on the DL? THAT'S THE LAST PIECE IN A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM!"?

This offense continues to wear our pitchers out. Every pitch a "chucker" throws has the game riding on it. July 1 tomorrow, and with it the trade rumors start to fly. Cashman beter "get off the dime", and make Texas an offer of Chamberlain, Hughes, and a fringe prospect for Tex. No Hughes. We are going nowhere come Oct. with this "Punch and Judy" offense.

Make that Chamberlain, Tabata, and the guy named "fringe".

Farnsworthless has alot of nads to show up his manager after the way he's pitched for this team! I wonder how Billy might of handled his little display?

On Abreu and how everyone seems to view him this year - it is just how I viewed A-Rod for the past 3 seasons in NY. Always coming up in key spots and hitting into a DP or looking at strike three. And, always at the most unappropriate time. Now, some of you can get a sense of what I was seeing and feeling about AR.

If you look at Abreu's numbers, they're not all that terrible...he scores some runs and I think leads the team in SB. But, he kills more rally's than you can count and basically sucks when needed the most. That is just what I saw in AR the past 3 years, good numbers but a rally killer when the pressure was on. Just mentioned this to show the correlation so some on here can get a better appreciation of why I was frustrated with AR. It's the same feeling were all having about Abreu this year.

RICK

I somewhat disagree w/ that assessment.#3 hitters vs. NY are batting .323.It's always been considered an RBI slot.To compare ARODs 121 RBI in 2006 to ABreu projected totals for 2007 is an insult to AROD.Abreu 2 outs/RISP in 2007 .211.
AROD:
2006 .313 2outs/RISP
2005 .302
2004 .206
Why do you always insist on invoking the name of Billy Martin?

On another note: Yankee relievers in the month of June gave up 37 BB in 74 IP.Terrible.

Roy,

Teixeria is HURT!
Why is getting another hurt player the answer?

Why not trade for Piazza?
He's hurt and he's more famous than Teixeria!

Hurt old and famous? THE YANKEE TRIFECTA!

Why the Billy Martin references, you may ask? Maybe because this team is in a SERIOUS NEED of a good butt kicking, that's why. True, even 16-plus years after his passing, Billy's name is still brought up when a managerial change is even mentioned, but SOMEBODY needs to light a fire under this sorry overpaid excuse for a baseball team. And, yes, Billy's response to Farnsworth's reaction last night and, for that matter, his overall performance, would have been worth the price of admission, which is more than I can say for this team's current level of performance.

The closest thing to Billy Martin in the majors right now is Sweet Lou and he's not having much fun in Chicago this season.

Sure, they are in the middle of a hot streak today, but that will soon change.

Fiery managers are not always the answer.

That wasn't Roy.

That was an imposter.

Roy would never advocate getting rid of Hughes...

The "Baby Rocket" will "launch" in August.

Trust me I know...

I own the kid in 5 fantasy leagues LOL...

(Yes I have too much free time)

Roy,

You should come down here and smack this "fraudulent imposter."

Happy RAD

"tough love" managers don't work anymore in the age of multi-millionaire players.See: Bowa.Pineilla will wear out his welcome as did Billy Martin.Butt kicking ? Give me a break! Farnsworth will be moved by the trade deadline.

C'mon Cashman, let's jettison Farnsworth out of the Bronx for a backup catcher and be quick about it. Edwar Ramirez is ripe & ready at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and should be called up to get work in the bullpen.

Wow, the Yankees beat the offensively challenged A's. Whoop de doo.

Go Mets!

ruse

I bring up Billy because he is the TYPE of manager that is needed at this time for this joke of a team. Torre is a Stump Merrill type (see bump on the log) that sleeps on while his talented millionaires continue to play like slackers. I LOVE Billy Martin and where his number to this day. He got underachievers to overperform, the exact OPPOSITE of what Torre does.

Sulky, why don't you get real try the real perfect trifecta of:

Experienced
Proven
Hall Of Fame Caliber

Right now we have great performers that are underachieving. Sad.
