Lineup Yanks vs. Mets

Here's the lineup for this afternoon's game:

Mets
Reyes SS
Beltran CF
Wright 3B
Delgado 1B
Lo Duca DH
Green RF
Castro C
Gotay 2B
Gomez LF

Glavine P

Yankees
Damon DH
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Posada C
Matsui LF
Cano 2B
Cabrera CF
Cairo 1B

Clippard P

A couple of noteworthy things from this morning:

*Jorge Posada took ground balls at first base. This is not something the Yankees see as a necessary move for him, with the exception of the upcoming National League series. Since Mike Mussina has basically taken Wil Nieves as his personal catcher, and Mussina is scheduled to pitch Tuesday (following an off day) and again Sunday (preceding an off day), the Yankees don't want to lose Posada's bat in the lineup both of those days, especially if he doesn't really need a day off. So if Posada looks OK at first, expect to see him there Tuesday and Sunday.
"I think it's possible, let's put it that way," Yankees manager Joe Torre said.
Posada is fine with it, though he knows he is unlikely to be stellar over there in the short-term. Said Posada: "We don't have enough time. You have to think where you're going to be. Instincts don't play over there (for him)."
Torre said he could see Posada making that transition on a full-time or near full-time basis down the road, as in 2009 or 2010. As for Posada: "I don't want to think about it, but if it's something that's going to help me, I'm OK with it."

*The Mets stole five bases last night. That was a result of Roger Clemens's slow delivery, not Jorge Posadas's slow reactions. But as for Clemens correcting that, Torre said: "What he's got to do is work on getting them (the hitters) over there (the dugout) instead of over there (first base)."

I'm convined: The Yankees will never score a runn again.

We'll be losing again because
Clippard walks Reyes TWICE, and Posada can't throw anyone
out.

this balk call can't unravel Clip-

Yanks will score runs on glavine today.

A balk, a run an inning so far given up. Better score 10-12 to win this one.

Bye-bye T-Clip, hello K-Ig?

I'd better never see Clippard ever again! Not that there is much at AAA(Igawa) But Clippard SUCKS

Bring Igawa up to replace Clippard please.

If this keeps up we could be looking at being swept at home by the Mets. If that happens, forget all the good vibes of the last week. Thanks Clippard you piece of crap.

Jim,

T-Clip is not a piece of crap, he is a baby who was brought up too soon, occupying a place in the rotation that never should have fallen to anyone at his level of development.

Yes, he needs to go down and work his way back up. No, he does not deserve the blame for being placed in an untenable situation.

i never thought i would see the day that people would be calling for igawa to be called up!

Next thing you know people will be calling on Torre to bring Vizcaino into a game.

Is anyone as outraged as I am that the umpire gifted the Mets with a go-ahead run under the premise of a "balk"? That wasn't a balk, it was a misunderstanding. A balk is "the failure of a player to complete a motion." That's not what happened in that play since Clippard thought a time-out was called. The umpire decided not to use the HUMAN ELEMENT (the sole reason for his existence in baseball), but he instead reacted with an automated response, much like a computer. With rulings like this, we might as well use technology since the reasoning value is removed when the umpire doesn't take all the factors into consideration when making such a serious decision. In my view, that call was reckless and irresponsible.

Rookie mistake by T-Clip. A time-out was requested but not granted. He interrupted his motion on the basis of the request rather than on the granting of the TO.

Diane, yes, I realize that, but Clip's intent wasn't to fool the runner (which is really what the balk is meant to address.) The umpire just looked at the result without using any reasoning whatsoever. This is what I have a problem with. It really wasn't a conventional balk, it was a mistake. The umpire could have acted like a human being when he realized what that move actually represented. That's my problem.

Did anyone leave the YES channel on during the present rain delay? I had to mute the sound because of those Mike and the Mad Dog commercials with those pitifully annoying yelping, honking, whining cries. Do they really think we enjoy hearing animalistic sounds being emitted from human beings? They are the worst commercials I've ever seen -- or heard, actually -- in my entire life.

Oh, good, the game is resuming.

yea the game is resuming and now we have to listen to that nitwit kay.

you have to win yankees
