Lineup vs. Giants

The Yankees are in San Francisco, playing at AT&T Park (and every former name for this stadium) for the first time in the regular season.

Alex Rodriguez did an organized group pre-game interview for just the second time this season. He spoke glowingly of Barry Bonds, who he counts as a close friend, and of the city of San Francisco, which will host next month's All-Star Game. He also said he will not participate in the Home Run Derby.

As for the lineups (Sean Henn was optioned to make room for Kei Igawa):

Yankees
Cabrera CF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Posada C
Matsui LF
Cano 2B
Cairo 1B
Igawa LHP

Giants
Dave Roberts CF
Randy Winn RF
Ray Durham 2B
Barry Bonds LF
Bengie Molina C
Pedro Feliz 1B
Kevin Frandsen 3B
Omar Vizquel SS
Matt Cain RHP

That's some fundamental baseball. A-Rod leads of with a double. Posada grounds one to the right side moving Alex to third with one out. Matsui flies to right-center deep enough to score the run.

Nothing special... just solid.

Let's see what the Yankee brass did to straighten out Igawa. He looked good in the first.

Wow... I can't believe that we scored those two runs right there. What are the odds on:

1) Single by Cano
2) Cairo works a 3-2 walk
3) Igawa works a 3-2 walk
4) Melky singles plating two

Wow!

Igawa's numbers should be tempered by how truly awful the Giants offense is.

That said I like what I see to this point.

Michael, apparently Bonds constitutes the Giants offense. Igawa actually did very well the first time around against Bonds, but he lost his confidence too easily. If he had remained consistent, he wouldn't have walked him the second time, but he would have struck him out. I think Igawa has excellent potential, but his problem is that he loses his confidence as soon as he gets into a jam. That's not a good sign.
