Clemens goes for 350

Roger Clemens is going for win No. 350 of his career. He and the Yankees have a 2-1 lead right now. Hideki Matsui hit a two-run homer in the top of the second, and Garrett Atkins just hit a solo homer off Clemens to make it 2-1 with one out in the bottom of the second.

Yankees minor league pitcher Joba Chamberlain has been named to the U.S. team in the Futures All-Star Game, which will be held Sunday, July 8th in San Francisco. Chamberlain is currently with the Trenton Thunder. The Thunder manager, Tony Franklin, has been picked as a coach for the team.

So much for 350...

THIS IS THE NATIONAL LEAGUE!!!!!

SHOULD BE MURDERING THESE IDIOTS!!

They just got ice cold with the bats!
PATHETIC!!!

I know the Rockies are playing good ball, but, come'on here.

I dunno. Maybe the thin air got to them.

Maybe we'll have better luck in SF.

Jeez, we need a real, legit 1B on this team.

Cairo and Phillips is not going to cut it.

This series, after the way we were playing coming into it, was a huge disappoitment.

Well all the ground they made up is about to be flushed down the drain. They are about to be closer to 10 out of the wild card than closer to getting it and 15 games out of first isn't far behind. Today was a must win and they scored 3 measly runs. 5 runs in Colorado?????

Welcome to the senior circuit. I warned you guys all year about that NL vs AL garbage and you didnt beleive me. The talent is pretty much equal from year to year now. The DH is the only advantage the AL has. So when its not in use its all about the talent.

And Abreu has become worthless at the plate again, and Damon is leading off hitting .249.

Any bets on how long till Abreu is bunting again?

You mean you missed Abreu' attempt to sac bunt his 3rd time up ?

I didnt see much of the game. But I am sure that will make the highlights tonight.

So much for the Mighty Yankees. 5 runs in 3 games at Coors? Pathetic

Colorado put on the field a nice, young and talented team. The Yankees looked very old against them. In fact we looked like Big 10 against the SEC in football. Bulk against speed. Speed usually wins out. First base is becoming more of and eye sore.

Andy Phillips not adjusting too well. This is becoming ifficult to watch.

It's the Same Rockies team who take 2 out 3 three from Redsox. The Rockies who slaughtered Redsox pitching in Fenway park. They embrassed Schilling and Beckett. It was Beckett first loss if I mistaken.
I gave Rockies credit.. Rockies are a hot team right now. The Rockies are 9-3 against in Al East.

The Yankees are struggling to score runs. Roger should be 2-1. He pitched great against Mets in his last outing but Yankees didn't score runs for him. Fire Hitting Coach Kevin Long....

Don't be too harsh. Since they have been putting the baseball in the humidor at the stadium in Coors field the runs are down something over a run per game.

DamonasaNomad from Sosg

ERA: 4.86

Okay, so I'm off on his ERA by .03 thus far.

If anything is more fun that the Yanks losing, it's Fat Roger taking the loss!

Redsox Fans calling Roger's Fat slob .. Please look at the Mirror Redsox Fans, Curt Schilling came overweight in spring training. His big Fat belly are showing. It's so disgusting.

Damon is no good. He plays with no heart here. On the Sox he played like an Animal. He knew he was getting over the hill and figured he'd go such the Yankees dry and lay back collecting big checks.

He rubs me the wrong way. Damon Must Go!!

I really hate this bum. I was against this signing from the begining and I'm sad to say it looks like I was 100% correct.

If I see Damon or Myers walking, outside Nyc streets, I swear I will punch both of them in face for being phony and fraud. That's how I feel right now.

Damon was slowing down defensively while in Boston. I hated how he never dived for ball and let them land right in front of him, while fans had to watch the opposition dive and rob hits from our players. It was very frustrating and I was glad Theo didn't re-sign him (and probably one of the few Sox fans who felt that way at the time). Crisp is by no means a great player, but not unlike your Melky, he is a very good defensive player (I'd say Coco is great defensively) player and we can live with his batting average if he keeps playing GG defense. Coco's defense is just one of many reasons the Sox are winning. He has saved many hits and runs

Oakland A's just designated Milton Bradley for assignment.Yanks might think about taking a gamble on him.He does seem to always have hamstring injuries. He switchhits w/ pop ,is an above average outfielder w/speed.

Looks like Roger is not living up to the million(s) dollar man after all. Hell, he has not been a factor yet. What a waste of money...

The Yankees looked awful, but the Colorado Rockies are a fluke (they came from nowhere and they're going nowhere). They're hot right now, especially at home with their high altitude, National League rules, a sold-out ballpark of 54,000 because of the Yankees instead of the usual 24,000 in regular attendance, and crummy umpires constantly giving them breaks (e.g. Phillips was blatantly robbed of ball 4 by two feet in the 9th). I also think they doing well because good teams aren't taking them seriously, especially AL teams like the Yankees and Red Sox.

Another plus: Even though it sounded like there were more Yankees fans in the crowd than Rockies fans, the Rockies were probably overjoyed just to hear any cheering at all. The incessant heckling was driving me crazy, though, as Rockies fans tried to out-holler Yankees fans. I have the feeling we'll do better in San Francisco, where Barry Bonds will provide the Yankees with more of a challenge than the Rockies, at least in their minds. I'm glad to be leaving the mountain people behind.

The game of musical bases (1st base in particular) has got to stop. This is becoming absurd. Seeing an injured Damon screwing up a play at 1st base was upsetting and inexcusable. Put the man on the damned DL already and establish a constant presence at 1st. Let's start becoming a cohesive team with players who know their roles and can confidently play their own positions. This disjointedness is benefiting no one.

Now I'm off to watch some real baseball talent: my son's Little League team. They've been looking better than the Yankees in the last few days.

LUCY

I disagree,Colorado is a good up and coming team w/a very talented lineup,OK starting pitching and a good bullpen. They are a legitimate wild card team.Holliday ,Helton,Atkins,Hawpe etc. are no flukes.

It's amazing to me how much the Yanks are getting trashed here again. When we're winning what? 11 out of 12, sweeping the D'backs and taking 2-3 from the Mets, everything's cool. Now we lose 3 straight and dogs and cats are living with each other again and the world's gonna end. Fire the hitting coach, fire Torre, where's Girardi? The whole nine yards.
Just chalk it up to a bad series and let's move on to SF.

I've just discovered that our local minor league teams are playing each other on SNY (the Mets' TV station) -- Staten Island Yankees at Brooklyn Cyclones.

It sure is nice to have Roger with NY again especially at this time of the season. We sure do have a chance to catch up with the red sox now that we have clemens.

The Oakland A's just designated Milton Bradley for assignment. Given the injury issues with Damon and the lack of depth on the bench - any interest in Bradley?

We need Hughes back, a few good trades and get rid of the dead wood, which is about 10 guys we all know.

ACL,

You should hope that you dont see Hughes until Sept. That means they arent rushing him back to his detriment. Or else they are panicing and really risking losing him. Think Rick Ankiel!!!

Milton Bradley was cut by Oakland.

Get him, Cashman. We need a good OFer.

You already have Abreu to go 0fer

If Bradley is a good OF, why was he kicked to the curb by Oakland? (Pardon my ignorance)

DIANE

Bradley has the injury bug.Oakland was counting on him to be a major contributor and all he ever seems to do is endup on the DL.
He does play great D ,switchhits ,hits for power and has a rifle of an arm. When he's healthy he can impact a game .Check out last years playoffs.Keeping him on the field for 150 games is another story.Billy Beane ran out of patience + w/ the emerging young RF Travis Buck decided to cut bait.
We've gone from talking about Babe Cairo to Milton Bradley, maybe it's time to breakout the parchese board.

Thanks, ruse.

Just what we need. Another chronic DL type. Maybe he and JD could platoon.

pick up Bradley. if he fails so what. if he can contribute play damon exclusively at dh and 1b. there every day lineups weakest hitters are either melky or bradley(both switchhitters) and the present damon with matsui, abreu, arod, jeter, cano, and posada

damon plays some 1b and dh... when damon is not playing 1b play some of the dregs. they are faster and way better defensively and less lefty reliant.. worth a move low cost and little risk he is a FA at end of the yr. it helps the bench a ton also...

good players get waived all the time. bradley is a FA at the end of the yr. so he is not in there long term plans, he has behavioral issues in the past, and they might have a glut of good young OF prospects...

Jay Payton, dave roberts, not superstars but many credible players like the 2 I just named were DFA's before it happens not to Arod types but middle of the road guys...

Associated Press story today details three Bradley turns on the DL already this season (hamstring twice, calf injury once), volatile behavior in the clubhouse and on the field (threw bottle from field at fan), and a number of off-field issues in which police in Ohio and California became involved (jailed once or twice).

John

they getting trashed because people actually thought this team was going to pull it out and that in itself is the biggest flub. this team and season is disgusting they had to win 9 in a row just to have a decent record they lose 3 and now they back at 500. and 11 back that is not acceptable and maybe the reality is begining to set that perhaps barring a complete wildcard collaspe which is unlikely meaning you have too many teams in the running. it's time to make changes when we need to go for the jugular we just cannot do it.

a lot of tents folding up huh?

still have 12-15 games till all star break, hopefully make a few subtle moves at deadline and from the looks of it, yanks have an encouraging second half schedule than 1st half (playing KC, TB, CHI, BAL, TOR more times in second half than first half).

i wouldn't go writing off this team just yet. until the last day of season, nothing is set in stone.

(hows that for positive reinforcement Nudge?)

Why don't we get Milton Bradley and Elijah Dukes!! Then all we'd have to do is get Michael Vick to switch sports and we could have "All Criminal" OUTFIELD!!

BB,

.500 is still a way better place than they were in a few weeks ago. With some player movement starting now what you need to hope for is some low profile changes that can bring in a lot of those Role Players that everyone wants. I doubt any big splash deals can be done so if some help at 1B, extra OF, backup Catcher and bullpen can be obtained as a lead into next years roster then you have some guys to watch and gauge their efficacy. If they help enough and the team starts moving up then your in it maybe till the end.

Problem is though as always the same guy that did the roster damage is the same guy that is making the deals now. Next year you are going into the season with only 2 known commodities at starter, Wang and Pettitte. Pettitte will be one year further along and Mussina as well. Thats 2 maybe 3 starting spots that need to be addressed and as of now only one is potentially covered by Hughes IF he proves himself.

Add the 1B, catcher, closer, setup man, corner OF, CF, 3B uncertainties and you see that this year may be a good time to at least sure up some of those lesser needs.

At least they have the DH covered!

Miguel,

I help out a bit too. The next 2 series are against 2 last place teams. The Giants have scored the same number of runs as the Pirates so their offense stinks. Baltimore I beleive lost Tejada last night with a broken bone so you may miss him too. I think its not unrealistic to expect a minimum of 4 wins from those two series.

The down side is that Igawa goes 2 times in those 6 games so keep your fingers crossed that the much ballyhooed mechanics improvements are real.

It's not the fact of alot of tents folding, it's the reality that the yankees is done this team don't have the magic, we got to 500 true but our loses are critical as there are other teams in the hunt, if we was in first now with a 10.5 game lead we would be talking playoff's etc. but were not and the reality is this (it may change ) we need to think future. I rather a losing season than to win 20 games just to fall one game short of contention

Mike,

you do not have to get vick to have a "ALL CRIMINAL " OF.

Lucchino sizes up China possibilities

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...t_on_the_radar/

"Quote from Larry "Lucifer " Lucchino Copycat From Boston GLobe

"Before, sports was seen as a political device, to demonstrate the prowess and efficiency of the Chinese system by winning sporting events," Lucchino said. "It was a tool of the state."

"But do I think the commissioner is dedicated to developing the market and expanding the presence of baseball in China? Yes. Will there be Chinese ballplayers in the major leagues? Inevitably, but not imminent.

Frank V (NY, NY): It seems that Alan Horne and Joba Chamberlain are really pitching well for the Yankees in AA. How good are they, do they project better than Clay Buchholz?

SportsNation Keith Law: Chamberlain's a potential front-of-the-rotation guy, a #2, maybe a #1 just given how big the fastball is, but as I've said before I'd like to see him show he can hold up over the course of a full season. Horne's more of a fourth-starter type, average fastball (88-92, will touch 94), plus curve, fastball is pretty true and he doesn't have a good third pitch right now.

Ruby (Seattle): Any chance the Yanks would trade Hughes for a 1B? How about for Sexson?

SportsNation Keith Law: Only if Brian Cashman is bound and gagged in a broom closet in Yankee Stadium.

Matt (NY): Pena to the Yankees a possbility?

SportsNation Keith Law: I saw that rumor - for Sean Henn? Good grief. Somebody flat-out made that up.

I would love to see Bradley on this team, especially with Damon possibly going on the DL and not trusting Melky to hit on an everyday basis.

Giants GM Sabean helped find Yankees cornerstones

http://www.mercurynews.com/giantsheadlines...?nclick_check=1

Who the f*ck cares about Sabean and being former Yankees scout back then in late 1990's seriously? I don't think Giants Gm Sabean should take all the credit for rebuilding the Yankees Farm system in the late 1990's. Gene Michael and Buck Showalter should take The credit.. So It wasn't Gene Michael or Buck Showalter who both rebuild Yankees farmsystem in the late 1990's and winning four titles. Sabean shut your mouth, Sob.

With Bradley constantly on the DL, what would be the gain? If we insist on having someone with leg problems in OF, Damon's got that covered.

Diane, it is another one of those low risk moves. Yankees would not have to give up anything to get him, he's 29, a switch hitter who has hit with power, a good fielder - and if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out - same as Terrance Long or Aaron Guiel last year.

Anon,

You seem to care about Sabean! Anyone got any quotes from Nancy Pelosi about her opinions on the Yanks?

Chip,

So the only meaningful cost would be a roster spot I gather?

And the only significant question whether we have better use for a roster spot?

I think Sabean is probably the worst GM in baseball. Bavasi and Daniels are his only real competition. Did He traded away Liriano, Nathan, Boof Bonser for Aj ?

Diane, exactly - and the roster spot could be opened without actually sacrificing a player - moving one of the injured players from the 15 to 60 day DL would do the same.

If the choices for the 25 man roster were Bradley vs. Kevin Thompson - I think we can agree that Bradley is the better choice. Especially if Damon does go on the DL - at that point Matsui is the DH and the outfield would be Bradley, Melky and Abreu. At the same time he would add another switch - hitter to Torre's lineup so there would be some balance.

Just an opinion though.

Incidentally - Ken Rosenthal mentions that the reason Bradely was DFA'd was because Billy Beane told him that his playing time was going to be cut in favor of an outfield of Kotsay, Swisher, and Buck - with Dan Johnson at 1st and Jack Cust at DH - Bradely, a FA at the end of this season asked for his release so he wouldn't have to sit around and wait to be traded, they compromised and settled on DFA status so the team could have a window to try and get something back for him.

Ruse, you may be right about Colorado being up and coming, but they were a .500 team before the Yankees came to town and, according to computerized statistical analysis, they should be at .500 right now. It seems every team has a few very good players who get hot and can beat the best teams. The Yankees were swept by last place Kansas City a couple of years ago. It wasn't as though Colorado blew the Yankees away. They had certain advantages which they put to good use, while the Yankees appeared lackadaisical and confused:

(Who's on First? I Don't Know who's on First. No, I Don't Know is on Third. Huh????)

It seems to me that every year there's an "irrelevant," so to speak, team that gets hot because no one is taking them seriously. Once in a while they sneak past the rest of the best and win a World Series (e.g. the Marlins); but most of the time they fall apart by season's end. The Colorado Rockies may be the miracle team of 2007, but they are in 4th place in their division in back of some legitimately "real" hot teams. If they continue to stay hot after winning the series against both the Yankees and the Red Sox, maybe they've got something. But I just don't see anything right now to convince me they're THE team to beat this year.

Sabean is in an impossible situation. The Giants can't rebuild because the biggest draw on their team is 43. He can't sign too many other free agents because Bonds eats up so much salary space and he has a tough time getting free agents to sign out there because of the circus that is Bonds and the fact that as a unit the team is not very good. As a result the only two ways to get players are to overpay (Zito) or deal what little young talent he has for them so he can try to surround Bonds with a team that can compete.

If the team gets out from under Bonds after this season, they will be in vastly better shape - they have the basis for a good pitching staff with Zito, Cain, Lowery, Morris and Jonathan Sanchez - Lincecum should be moved to the pen where he would be a great closer. If they use the money allocated for Bonds on a couple of solid younger players (Orlando Hudson, Aaron Rowand) and some relief help - and then start following the Yankee, Met and Boston plan of spending lavishly on international free agents and above slot money for picks - they could turn it around quickly in a division that has no clear favorites from year to year.

A few comments:

1) Did anyone else see that Torre told Myers to expect to face bonds at least three times this series? My theory is that Torre wants to be personally present when Bonds breaks the record;
2) Several others and I said that Damon needed to be on the DL weeks ago. He already can't field. Now he can't hit. What are the Yanks waiting for? I read a quote that he said "the rib cage only pulled two times today. Not too bad." It's not supposed to pull at all. Why do the Yanks think they can just stick anyone over at first base? Who's next to play over there, Rivera (we certainly don't need a closer);
3) I'll be holding my breath with Igawa tonight. Not only were his mechanics screwed up last time we saw him, he looked scared and confused. This could get ugly. Why do I get the feeling we are seeing him because Ca$h has to justify his stupid decision?
4) It's time to sh*t or get off the pot with Phillips. Either play the guy everyday and see what he has (not much in my opinion) or admit that he is a career AAA hitter and utilize him accordingly. One can not hope to get their timing down at the Show playing 2 out of every 5 games.
5) No on Bradley. Someone above did a good job detailing his behavior problems. He is a china doll and a club house cancer. He's sheff without the talent. I'd rather take a chance on Dukes cuz he's younger and hasn't bounced around as much (maybe there is hope). Bradley is exactly what he appears to be.

Though it may be hard to tell, I'm a diehard Yankee fan. Just venting. We need a sweep if we have any hope of closing ground before the break.

MichaelZ, those were great points. Venting is just fine, join the club. This is a good place to vent, make intelligent statements, cheer, laud the Yankees just because they're the Yankees -- whatever your pleasure. I do a little of each practically every day.

mike z-

couldn't agree with you more- u hit several points right on the head

myers needs to go - damon needs to go on DL, give us some options for 2nd half of year and then be traded to whoever, for whatever. again, former red sox this day in age are a curse to Yanks. (past examples of Boggs - he had to conform to the teams of late 90's....and like clemens came to win and stick it to sox. guys like myers, minky, damon already won a WS, what do they have to prove in NY? plus, alongside giambi, they have turned the yankee clubhouse into some Pantera, jack daniels- for-all frat party).

not playing phillips is a dead issue. joe obviously feels for him, so he wont sit him.

COL is done and over with...move on to dreadful SF and BAL - win 5/6

Michael a few responses:

1. This is a good team for Igawa to start against - they don't hit much, it is a shorter lineup, being in the NL with no DH, and a big ball park. That said, I'm crossing my fingers too.

2. It isn't a question of just sticking anyone over at first - they don't have an everyday 1b and were using it the way they use the DH spot in the AL parks - three more days is all you have to put up with it.

3. I agree with Phillips - we've seen that he can't hit if his playing time is sporadic, lets see if he can play at all, if not - go find a first baseman who can.

4. The last time Bradley had an incident he was in Cleveland 4 years ago. As for him vs. Dukes - uh I'll take the guy who doesn't threaten his wife and call into radio shows screaming like a raving lunatic about everyone being out to get him - thanks though.

LUCY

Colorado is 20-7 since May 22.In 4th place 3 1/2 games out of 1st.They beat the Yanks w/ good pitching, good defense and timely hitting.Sometimes that's all you need to win.
They are the hottest team in baseball.

i can't figure out why some are high on picking up either bradley or dukes. I certainly dont see the Yankee outfield as being 100% makeshift, non-versatile or anything of that nature. is abreu afraid of the wall? u bet. does melky make many young mistakes? sure. does damon have an arm comparable to a 3 year old child? u better believe it. and has matsui lost some speed and ability to get to some fly balls? yes.

but to go out and get these AL hot-headed, selfish rejects makes no sense. As if the Yankee clubhouse isn't already conjested with (in no particular order, of course)Giambi's steriod investigation, pavano's continual merry-go-round arm problems, absence of B. Williams, a-rod's bombs and blondes, and overall inconsistent play.

So why add the likes of bradley and dukes? what, every time a player is subjected to the waiver wire or released, Yanks should get him? How about yanks use the 200 million dollar payroll they currently have, DL or not?

If your going to EXPERIMENT with the season then EXPERIMENT all across the board and play some of our Youth in the OF, Call up the cuban to play first.

If your playing to keep the season alive then you play with your best option until a BETTER option arrives

Miguel -

In all sports there is an axiom that one team's garbage is another team's trophy.

Do the Yankees NEED Milton Bradely? Certainly not, but for now the type of player they NEED is not available, Bradley is - there is no risk to picking him up given the low cost of such a transaction. If he hits, fields, keeps his mouth shut and helps the team - fantastic. If he doesn't, if he shows himself to be a clubhouse cancer, or a distraction - you dump him, no harm, no foul. Same thing with relief pitchers who come available by being released. You pick a guy up, give him a look, if you're lucky you wind up with Aaron Small circa 2005, if you wind up with Darrell May or Scott Erickson - you send him on his way, again, no harm, no foul.

As for the comment that the clubhouse is "congested" with issues - I think with Giambi on the DL being away from the team, he's not much of a distraction - Pavano is resolved and Bernie is a non-issue.

I have no interest in Dukes, because I believe he should be in therapy not a baseball uniform at any level, but if the question is whether or not Milton Bradley could be an upgrade over Kevin Thompson, well that seems like a no brainer to me.

If you give up nothing, the worst you can do is get nothing in return, even if you get a little something you're still coming out ahead no?

Miguel,

Those are talented "rejects" who are superiorly better than our options and sometimes JUST sometimes when they come over and hustle the other players catch on. these Lazy SOB's we have feel content becasue they know many fans protect them.

SINCE we are in the experiment phrase then we can experiment on some OF's

great article in the SF Chronicle on the 1962 WS.Yankee lineup in the 7th game:
Kubek SS
Richardson 2B
Tresh LF
Mantle CF
Maris RF
Howard C
Skowron 1B
Boyer 3B
Terry P

1 Note:
Myers allowed his 15th inherited runner to score in yesterdays game.

personally, i think the bradley / dukes talk is out of frustration.

in bringing in say, bradley, u reduce the role of melky and /or option matsui or abreu to bench more often. (to me, damon is a lost casue until he gets healed up)matsui seems to be finding his stroke as of late and what you see is what u will get with abreu. yanks won 9 straight (longest streak in majors so far, if im not mistaken) with that very same outfield two weeks ago. plus, bradley doesnt want to sit the bench - case and point - oakland.

picking up these waiver guys wont help team. yanks are content with outfield they have now, both players and management. to simply pick up a bradley means to demote someone else. and to just simply get rid of a bradley, when he becomes a cancer or distraction, isnt productive for team and /or the guy who was sent down or released. id rather be proactive in not signing those hotheads than reactive when problems occur in clubhouse (and to think there wont be any chance of clubhouse issues with the names mentioned is foolish...we all know bradleys issues as well as dukes current tirades)

stick to what we have. if yanks hit with RISP, pitch well, stay agressive on basepaths, and stick to ABC baseball, things will work out.

i fully value and understand everyone's point of view, but lets be realistic to some degree. is the yanks problem not having an adaquete outfiled? or not having the likes of dukes, walker, bradley, etc.? sure, one teams trash will work out to be yanks tresure, but i dont believe it is in any case bradley.

what happens when he mouths off about clemens special treatment, or blows off instructions from jeter or posada, or complains about personal playing time. is that a hassle yanks want to put up with? past or not, yanks have had their fair share of bogus distractions this year, let alone past 5-7 years.

Miguel:

I'm not particularly frustrated - and I'm not talking about playing Bradley at the expense of Melky. I'm talking about adding Bradley and sending Kevin Thompson back to AAA. If Damon goes to the DL - as many think is inevitable at this point - you move Matsui to DH and play Bradley in LF. At the very least Bradley fills that position the Yankees had planned to use Melky in when the season started - a fourth outfielder who plays as much as the top three and is rotated through all three outfield positions.

I think Bradley would welcome the opportunity because, as a free agent to be, he would get a chance, on the biggest stage, to showcase his versatility by playing all three outfield positions.

I have no affinity for Milton Bradley, but if you are given the opportunity to add a young (29) player who has been productive in every place he has played and give up nothing in return - why would you not do it?

Miguel -

The problem is not the outfield, but one of the numerous problems is a short bench. Look at who is over there right now:

Cairo
Damon - who is hampered by injury
Wil Nieves
Kevin Thompson
Chris Basak

How can Joe give guys a day off when they need it if he has to turn their spot in the lineup over to one of those guys - and it will get shorter if Damon hits the DL. As I said, the player the Yankees NEED is not available (nor has he been identified) but this could fill A need.

MIGUEL

1st of all no one knows where Bradley is headed and we probably won't know for a week or so.Bradley has calmed down considerably the last 2 yrs.I doubt he would be a distraction. The Yanks are currently carrying 3 lefties in the bullpen so demoting Henn or releasing Villone isn't a big deal.
I'm convinced the Yanks will be active buyers before the trade deadline.

ruse -

I agree about being buyers at the deadline. But smart shoppers. They aren't going to make panic moves and guys like Joba, Tabata and Kennedy will probably be deal killers.

When Igawa gets called up tonight either Henn or Villone will be sent out.

DEMOTE.. when one under performs.

The way we been hitting especially against lefties leaves room for improvement! you won 9 games with that out field true . do we need to state how many games was lost??

In no way do we keep this OF next season so to rid of them now is essential DL damon and place Matsui in the DH slot Melky has not earned everyday playing rights eventhough he has been, his Offense is light weight and it's time to understand that reality.

He is nothing more than a slight upgrade over a Jason Tyner.

if bradley comes and takes someones playing time .ooooooooooh hhhhh welll he must have done something right. ever heard of Wally Pipp

Ruse, those are interesting stats about Colorado. They must have started out very, very, very slowly because right now they are over .500 only with the help of the Yankees in the last three games. Do you think it's more than just a hot streak and they can go all the way? I've heard of Helton but not the rest of those guys. I thought the pitching was very good but nothing to write home about. They did get an awful lot of questionable calls in their favor as the officiating was glaringly inconsistent. When calls can go either way or they're close, I think the umpires tend to give them to up and coming teams like the Rockies rather than the Yankees.

Be that as it may, it's comforting to know the Yankees were beaten by the hottest team in baseball right now. I'll be watching Colorado this year to see if they live up to their tremendous expectations and not merely experiencing what I'll call a bout of fluke-dom.

That goes without saying!

LUCY

I tend to keep my eye on what's going on around MLB.
The Rockies have one of the best balanced lineups in the NL and certainly one of the most potent. Some insiders predicted them to finish 2nd in the NL West.Still alot of ball left.Matt Holliday is leading the NL in hitting and you know nothing about him ? There is good baseball being played west of the Hudson River.

ruse

What impressed me most about the Rockies is that they finally seemed to be getting away from using Coors to try and outslug everyone - with the speed at the top, power and average in the middle - if they could get consistent production from Garrett Atkins that would give them a foursome in the middle that's as good as anyones (in either league) also they need to send Ianetta to AAA for regular AB's. And they finally have some pitching - Jeff Francis could be another Tom Glavine type

Anyone else ready to give up some good prospects for Texiera yet? 1B looks pathetic, Cairo and Philips are not the answer, and we got swept by the friggin Rockies?!?!?! C'mon folks we are now losing all respectability, welcome to the Nationals, um I mean Yankees
