Something positive

A few of you have complained that I am too negative. If there were more positive things to write about this team, that wouldn't be the case. The reality is the Yankees are six games under .500, after entering the season with sky-high expectations.
But here is something positive: Derek Jeter has performed at an even higher level this season when there are runners in scoring position than his general excellent level (season batting average of .352 is fourth in the American League). Jeter is hitting .465 (20-of-43) with runners in scoring position, the highest in the major leagues. As they used to say with Michael Jordan (gotta be the shoes), maybe it's the name -- the Cubs' Derrek Lee leads the National League in hitting with runners in scoring position at .457. I'm kidding of course.
Jeter has been particularly exceptional with runners in scoring position and two outs. He is hitting .560 (14-of-25) there, tops in the American League.
Hope all of you had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend, despite the Yankees' struggles.

things would be great in yankee land if we had 25 derek jeters. instead, we have old roid heads, ex red sox, over paid players and a pitching staff that is comparable to a 40 and over softball team

Kat, welcome to NY, where when things go badly everyone, from players to beat writers is to blame.

Jeter is the man in NY, but the team pitches well and cant hit well one day, but I think if we can get Roger, Hughes, Pettite and Wang going thats a solid 4, and then jelly arm Mussina maybe can get going again & we will be fine, but I think our pitching is not bad, our bullpen with certain pitchers blow a lot of games for the Yanks.

Last time I checked, Jeter got out with the tying run on 3rd and 2 outs. Does Kat even watch the games?

KAT

I don't perceive you as being particularly negative??? I'm not sure how that got started ?
It would be nice for you to weigh in on subjects other than Teixeira although that's greatly appreciated.
For instance what's the latest scuttlebutt on any trades developing if any ? or talk about player promotions or demotions?

why a-rod will opt out 100%

i want to analyze the motives behind the decision.
which team stands to gain the most from an opt out? obviously the rangers who save 30 million!! that's tons of motivation.
so how about that -
the rangers offer boras the kind of "bribe" that is very common and legal in sports. for example, they will take his client in the draft (a guy who's supposed to be a great hitter, can't remember the name) and pay him an outrageous signing bonus of let's say 7 million, way above and beyond.
to reciprocate boras guarantees a-rod's opting out.
who wins?
rangers - already mentioned why
boras' draftee - get's huge bonus
boras - reinforces his status as the best agent for young talent, breaking a signing bonus record
a-rod - get's a filthy rich deal for many years.
who stands to lose - yankees.
the math is simple.
it'll be quite easy for boras to convince a-rod to opt out, even if the guy's sincere about staying in NY. he'll explain to him that an extension doesn't carry the same leverage as playing several teams against each other (he just suffered such a situation representing dice-k). he'll tell a-rod that in order to solidify his legacy in NY and make sure he breaks the all time HR record in yankee uniform he must give his agent freedom to extract enough years out of the contract, probably looking at 7-8 years, until a-rod turns 40.

this is why i believe the opt out is a fact to happen. just pure math - too many winners, only one potential loser. even so, there's still a good chance he stays here.

Cheer up, Yankee Fans. At least you have the media shills in your corner. Guys like Max Kellerman, Francessa, Phil Bondy, and others will keep you and your team in a state a denial. Keep the backpages. But the truth of it is, is that's it's over. And that's something the reporters can't gloss over

Gil

"Opt Out" "Shmopt out"

If it's money we win and he stays.

We will give him a blank check if he proves his worth the rest of this season.

last time i checked jeter had 4 w.s. rings, w.s mvp, 2 gold gloves,...i dont have to remind yankee fans

Kat you're not negative, unfortunately there hasn't been much to be positive about. It's a sad fact. Can't blame the reporters for telling us what we saw during the game. It's not fun to read bad news after bad news.

Hughes spraining his ankle after the hamstring pull puts him further away from joining the team that needs him with Mussina looking rusty (until his last start). Hopefully that’s a sign that he's getting things going.

And I think the Rocket should start in the Red Sox series but the Yankees are famous for protecting their stars and I guess they want to hold him for Chicago so that he's not so pumped up in that first start. It can't all rest on his shoulders though. He says he can pitch Saturday so maybe he'll convince Torre. He's in NY this week, he'll be at the pinstripes in the park event they are doing at Bryant Park in NY.

On the bright side if we can win the next 2 games we win the series. So let’s hope they start a streak going in the other direction and reverse the course of things.

Kat: I do not believe that you have been negative. You are in a position that most of us would relish as yankee fans. I'm not talking about the travel that can get old fast. Its the connection to the team. letting us know what makes them tick. I for one would love to know if they are communicating with each other or withdrawing. Who maybe the cheer leader? Little things about the team are important to us fans. Hell unless they win the WS its a loss season. So, some folks say.

Kat,

As an "outsider"..worse a Sox fan..I'm not sure I am in the position to comment on your job as blog administrator...but perhaps an outsiders perspective may be worth considering....

I dont think it is your job to hold peoples hands...or ply them with koolaid. You are a journalist who writes her perspective. Clearly, this season is highly disappointing to both Yankee fans, and Yankee beat writers...and there IS more negative substance than positive. Realistically, you have little choice but to point out what you see each day as an "imbeded" reporter. I think you are doing a fine job of that.

As far as this blog goes....it's a public blog...susceptible to non Yank fans like me, idiot Yank fans who want another allocade to beat their chest to, and the majority...which is good folk, who are loyal and life long Yankee fans...all of which are going thru something the Yankees rarely experience.... a seemingly lost season. Patience and tempers are frayed. Understandable....but my two cents worth is this:

Keep doing what you are doing...and let the jabs roll off you like water off a ducks back. You are fine...and certainly not the problem.

Please allow me to assist the deaf, the dumb and the blind. The Yankees do win sometimes but you wouldn't know it by kat's updates. She only reports when they are losing and then disappears the minute they take the lead. She jumps to report the injuries but never reports the positive rehabs. There have been positive events this season but you wouldn't know it by visiting here. She calls the team "your Yankees" and don't tell me no one has noticed that. Kat is obviously not a Yankees fan and it shows but it shouldn't if she was doing her job.

Kat: if you tell me you're a Yankees fan I'll eat one of my two dozen Yankees hats. Which team is your favorite? Anybody here want to take a guess?

Keen

That's Horse$hit.

HELLO AROD IN APRIL

She was a buzy blogging bumblebee...

Sometimes almost distracting-(in that it was almost hard to keep up)

The fact is as Casual so thoughtfully put: That when the team suffers we suffer. PERIOD

She's nothing good to report because...THERE'S NOTHING GOOD TO REPORT!!!

And if she's a Yankee fan or not is ridiculous. Who cares. I don't believe that's a prerequisite and it shouldn't be.

You want objectivity right?

If you want "homers" listen to Francessa-Whom I, in particular rely on heavily in these times of distress.

Kat is a professional journalist. Her assignment is to cover the Yankees. You sound like a complete idiot when you comment on what team she is or isn't a fan of. The Yankees are 21-27 with a $200 million payroll. If you want happy-talk, buy a subscription to Yankees Magazine. You are proving that the only thing you're a keen observer of is your own a-hole.

Actually it's part of the job description that as a beat reporter for any team you NOT be a fan of that team. You are supposed to be neutral and objective, period. That's what I am.

WELL DONE KATWOMAN

Here's the problem: While you don't have to be a fan of the Yankees, and it's obvious to all of us you aren't, you don't need to be a Yankee Hater either.

I absolutely agree with an above poster who says Kat seems to be very critical and negative of the Yanks.

The funny thing is the one player who she seems to go out of her way to praise is A-Rod. But didn't Kat come from Texas and perhaps she knew A-Rod when he was playing there?

Anyway, it's been a very tough and dissapointing season so far but there are positive sings believe it or not. We just wish we saw more of it from time to time.

Kat,

You are NOT too negative!

You are doing a good job. Just write the stories ... that's journalism ... pure journalism means just writing the truth.

How many Cy Young Award pitchers do the Blue Jays have McGowan last night and Marcum tonight. The yankees can't be this baddddddddddddddddddd.

Kat,
You are doing a fine job, you are being objective which some fans of the Yanks perceive to be negative.

I remember when Jon Heyman was the beat writer and he openly loathed the Yankees, which I think is also unecessary. The last thing I'd want to read in the paper is some "all is great w/ the Yanks" when they are playing like horsesh*t, so keep up the good work.

Kat - you are doing a good job.

Kat is great! And from her photo on the paper, also kind of a hottie!

Keep up the good work!

A-Lo,
stop talking about Kat like that. All you do is mention women. this is a baseball site. I've read your other stuff-too lustful man.

DO you want to move in with her too and take her money as you have been currently doing to another woman???

You live with a woman for her money and home--leave Kat alone.
