Sorry for no lineup tonight. The internet has been the worst ever. It took me 20 minutes just to stay online long enough to send a story for tomorrow's paper.
The Yankees are leading the Red Sox 7-2 in the eighth inning. Other than the fact that the Yankees are on their way to a victory (which will go to Andy Pettitte), the story of the game is Derek Jeter. He is 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. He passed Joe DiMaggio for fifth place on the Yankees' all-time hit list, quite an accomplishment.

Watching Farnsworth is like pulling teeth.Nothing comes easy for this knucklehead.
Julian "Freddy Kreguer" Tavarez are 2-0 against Yankees so far... Tavarez's is like nightmare that hunts Yankees dreams and their sleep at night
trade farnsworth to Philly. Brett myers there closer got hurt tonight..
get a catcher, something else. put Bruney in the 8th inning bring up britton and go from there....
ankees gave out $1 million donation to Virginia Tech Tragedy
Atfermath of the Virginia Tech massacre on April 16 when 32 students and faculty members were killed by a gunman. There was a pregame ceremony to announce the donation of $1 million to the "Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund."
Dr. Charles Steger, the college's president, threw out the first ball. Besides having the Virginia Tech logos painted near the baselines and put on the Yankees' caps, the team also announced it will play an exhibition game on or near the Blacksburg, Va., campus next year, with all the proceeds going to the school.
If the Yankees are Evil., How come They gave out $1 million to Virginia Tech? Also they gave out some money on hurricane katrina disaster. The perception poytrayed by media that They blame Yankees always not Redsox or Mets.
I don't see Redsox doing something like this.... Redsox are truly Evil...
Petitite's should be 7-1 by now if not for lack of run support and bullpen blowing leads for him. Yankees bullpen already blow three games ..
No one questioning about Andy's moving back from Nl to Al?
He had 2.66 Era..

Kruk-
Spoken like a true RSN Homer
Once again he’s done it. John Kruk, it is MAY 24 and already he’s saying the East is a one horse race and how Clemens won’t help us AND how we have no shot at the playoffs saying “with all the others teams they just won’t have enough”.
Wasn’t ESPN once a great unbiased network that I watched religiously as a kid. When did it turn into an Off-shoot of RSN.
And where do they fine there analysts? For pete’s sake. The majority of them, not all some are decent, but the majority were awful players. Turning to Eric “EY” Young, and John Kruk for expert analysis, I mean who were these guys as players? The biggest memory of Kruk you’ll ever have is ducking a RJ Fastball in an All Star Game and oh yeah that Nurtisystem commerical, where he proudly claims that his wife doesn’t find him “as digusting as she used to”...sheesh to be a fly on the wall at Kruk’s must have been a blast when he was a player must have be utter comedic doom towards the institution of marriage.
Kruk and Russo should own property together they’re all the same. Idiots
Pedroia and ESPN biased announcers
Did anybody mention Pedroia's dirty slide long before A-Rod's. Pedroia did not even come close to touching the bag, A-Rod at least did touch it. Peter Gammons and all the Red Sox fans are crybabies. Everything is fine while they are winning, but wait and see when we catch them, they will start again "of course, but you sign all the stars and have the biggest payroll".
ESPN is the most biased anti-Yankee network. Gammons, Stark, Olney, Sutcliffe, Kruk and Morgan should all be under Red Sox payroll. Gammons, Olney and Stark are all New Englanders; Kruk, Sutcliffe and Morgan are all envious ex-players of Yankee glory and the fact that the team never game them any thought when they were playing.
The only credible one is Tim Kurkjian. Steve Phillips is not an anti-Yankee but he is not credible.
If you are going to announce or comment on games and a sport, please hide your true colors, specially if announcing for a national broadcast network, not a local one.
I was able to see the field interview of Jeter after the game. Usually Directv cuts soon after the end of the field celebration of the winning team. Jeter is one classy guy. We in NY have been so fortunate to watch him play.
Its amazing that the core group of players, Jeter,Pettite, Posada and Mo are still providing the heroics. Whatever scouting system employed by the Yankees at that time should be reviewed and dusted off.
Another test this weekend with the LAA. They will be running, playing small ball which unnerves the Yankees especially those pitchers who have a poor stretch delivery to the plate.
Is Farnsworth making himself available for trade by his recent perormances. The guy pitches every other day for one inning and is good for at least one run per. His balk at first was just unconsious both Abreu and Farnsworth are playing in a sleep walk. How much more negative can Abreu get DP,error and picked off. A Little League coach would consider a kid with a similar game a dizball, very training to the mgr. and the team.
Cashman should be scanning rosters for a backup catcher for Jorge. Farnsworth is the bait to use. Chris Britton can be called up in a NY minute. Farnsworth has pitched and talked his way out of a Yankee uniform.
Jeter - best player in the game since the late 90's.
Jeter - best player in the game since the late 90's.
from the denver post
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters this week that although trades are always possible, nothing is warm right now. Still, multiple scouts said Wednesday the Yankees are interested in Rockies first baseman Todd Helton and closer Brian Fuentes, though nothing is brewing.
Carl: I know you will agree with this comment. Jeter would stackup up against any and all in any era. I have been a yankee fan since the 50's.
I thought Kruk was pretty fair in his assessment of Clemens last night. 102 pitches in 5 innings is not exactly good and he was walking a lot of people and the kids he didn't walk hit the ball hard. so where is the bias?
I did learn one thing last night from Clemens' post game interview, it appears that the minor league baseball is different from the major league ball. WTF? why do they do that? Does anyone out there know the difference?
Clemens is, for all intents and purposes, in spring training. His main concern is getting in a certain number of pitches and keeping healthy, not blowing away minor league competition.
Kat:
Get Newsday to spring for a Verizon wireless card. It will pay for itself many times over in making sure you don't blow deadline.
Is it just me, or did the Red Sox not really look like a 1st-place ballclub this week? Schilling looked lost. The bullpen was kind of mediocre. At the end of the season, we might be able to look back at this week as the week that the AL East turned around.
But after watching these three games -- even the one Boston won -- I'm not convinced the Sox have a lot more going for them than Ortiz, Manny and a fast start.
Jim A.,
It's the same thing with the minor league bats, it isn't that they are different exactly, just that the quality is not as good. In the majors the umps will toss out baseballs that don't feel quite right to them before the game, in the minors, with a smaller budget, they don't necessarily do that. Paulie was pointing that out about the bats in the minors last night too. That in the majors you will get 12 bats sent to you and you might keep 2 but in the minors you are lucky if you can find a bat that you like enough to use in a game.
Congrats Jordin Sparks!
I wanted Blake to win though!!!!
Giddy today?
So is this finally the day that the Yankees begin there turnaround and win 70% of their remaining games, hoping that Boston plays .500 or worse during that time so they can win the AL East again?
I figured I'd take the pulse since after beating the Sox in the 1st game of the series, it was SWEEP time baby, and the momentum was just too great for the Yankees at that moment and they were going to use that 1st game to propel themselves upward and onward!!
Then, of course, Tavarez stepped in and ended that little dream.
But now, NOW, it's baaaack...that feeling that they are going to do it...they are going to make what we shall now call, "The Run"....you can feel it in the air...sense it in the stadium...see it in the way they look now...they've got that killer instinct back.
Damon is not washed up and slower as has been said. Arod is really really good. Pettite is Cy Young, and Torre, well, Torre is now a genious again.
All of this sound familiar? Yeah, it should...After the red hot Angels come in with their best 3 pitchers this weekend, there will be more screaming and shouting and complaining.
Oh, and then, Roger will ride in and he'll resc.......well, maybe not.
Noteworthy, after the game, Torre was told by the media about Clemens' performance, and the only stat he appeared to be interested in was the number of pitches. He seemed very pleased with that and stated it's totally up to Clemens as to when he returns. Some sportswriters claim he did an awful job, but I guess they think he's out there to win rather than prepare and warm up. Yankees commentators stated he's not going to pitch with the same intensity there as he will in the Majors. That makes sense.
Farnsworth is painful to watch out there. The combination of Proctor and Bruney have made him very moveable despite his ridiculous contract; I figure that if the Yankees pitch in some money to make it reasonable, they'd be able to spin Kyle off for something positive. They'd never get a great haul for him, but something is better than nothing.
How about Pavano getting TJ surgery??? Given the size of his contract, is he the biggest bust free agent signing in baseball history?
If this guy had any conscience whatsoever, he'd come back from the surgery, sign with the Yankees for the league minimum, and do his best to make some sort of contribution to this team.
Dave S.,
that whole class of free agent pitchers was a waste:
Pavano
Russ Ortiz
Jaret Wright
Eric Milton
Matt Clement
Kris Benson
Jon Leiber
the only one who was even effective for 1 season was Pedro.
Mike,
I agree about Farnsworth. There are teams that will look at him, see 98 mph fastball and be willing to take a chance. My vote would be the Phillies who just lost Brett Myers to a shoulder injury. His quote about it was that he felt something pop or tear. Philly needed pen help before, maybe the Yankees can package Farnsworth, Villone and some cash for a catcher to play behind Posada and a prospect.
As much of a stretch as it may sound like, middle relievers, even struggling ones like Farnsworth, can bring back a lot.
from ESPN.com, Thursday, May 24th, 2007.
"It should be all right," Myers said. "I don't think it popped or tore. If it did, I wouldn't have any strength in it, but I have strength in it."
chip, sounding silly...again.
I happen to be the biggest meathead there is.
I want you casual observer.
Nudge,
You're right, I just went and looked and I obviously mis-read the line from Buster Olney's blog this morning.
i am always right, haven't you learned that by now?
It still doesn't take away from the original point that the Phillies are in desperate need of relievers (as evidenced by the fact that they are seriously considering signing Troy Percival) and offering them Villone and Farnsworth would go a long way to giving them the depth in the pen that they need/desire while at the same time not costing them a ton in terms of talent back. As I said, a backup catcher (either Ruiz or Coste), and a prospect or two, depending on what amount of money the Yankees would be asked to take back on the two pitchers.
LOL,
I see Knuckle-dragger is skipping school once again.
Clever, witty remarks...how entertaining.
gee, shocking that no one likes you.
au contraire Chippy, my boy,
Everyone likes me. I am a very likable guy.
even knuckle-dragger here seems infatuated with me and Nudge....everyone of his posts are in regards to one or both of us.
Hero worship is a curse we have to suffer with.
Spat,
If the world championship was decided in May, the Red Sox would have a lot more trophies sitting in Fenway.
Observer - defined as:
1. A person who adheres or follows laws, guidelines, etc.
I shall be an observer of the local customs.
2. anyone who watches, monitors or takes notice
Most impartial observers agreed that Sampras had not served well.
3. A person sent, as a delegate, to a meeting or other function to monitor but not to participate
The UN sent many observers to the country's first elections.
4. (military) A crew member on an aircraft who makes observations of enemy positions or aircraft
The only crew-member to survive the crash was the Canadian observer.
5. (military) A sentry etc manning an observation post
We waited till dusk when the observers' vision was poorest.
No where does it say "Person who makes arrogant statements" perhaps you should rethink your name friend.
Ed:
Well said.
I have to defend Morgan here. first off he is the way he is becasue just like US he is part of a Dynasty that was powerful and Boastful so of course he holds a personal bias. I would too if you have to report a game and they saying the team is the best EVER. someone in Joe morgan stance logically speaking would hold issue to that.
Add to the fact that this man played in the era of good base ball and witnessed the play of the greats regardless if their careers where in decline.
So in Joe Morgan's take I at least feel the same way about my Yankee teams and is very protective about their legacy.
Add to the fact that his reds SWEPT us in 1976 add fuel.
Well Chip,
Last time I checked you are perhaps the last person in here to be pointing out arrogant statements...as you make plenty of them. As Nudge has pointe dout on several occasions, you tend to get lost in your perceived expertise to the point of arrogance, and it has come back to bite you.
Also, dont confuse sarcastic humor with arrogance on my part.
I have no particular qualms with you Chip.. if you want to get into a war of words with me...go for it. I'm pretty good at it.
BB,
You have every reason in the world to take pride in the legacy of your team...they have accomplished alot to be proud of. Certainly more than any other baseball team in history, including Morgan's Reds...who were an incredible team.
Casual
I agree but I can also relate to Morgan and why he never fully embraced the 90's yankees and their legacy in him you can here his .......ummh seperation from the hoopla regarding the yankee's and in him I can understand more than anyone because he has seen great players and has beaten great teams. so when he does give a compliment regarding the yankees I take it in stride and with true merit. I also like McCarver who played with the great pitchers and against but still has a humble approach to the game today. When he critizes you study it. Long ago in the 80's you could,nt tell me he was'nt a met Homer
Too Add,
To me the team who lacks in respect is the 2001 or?? seattle team that won the most regular season games
BB,
We all have opinions...there is perhaps no final authority of "the best team(s) ever"...but, the Yankee teams of the late 90's are certainly the best of any I've seen play...and I saw the Reds at their best. I cant blame Morgan for the way he feels...wouldnt be natural if he didnt feel that way. I may be wrong...but I dont think any team in recent history has been as dominating as the Yanks were for the 5 year run.
Yeah I agree with you on t hat then I hear people speak who witnessed the 50's when the squad was on a multi year run. I defend this team by saying Stengal teams did,nt have to deal with FA. If FA was avail back in the days things would have been different. and I can see some of our stars leaving because of such
Observer, thanks for your oh so kind words. Something you should know though - that post, about your name - was not made by me.
As for any statements I have made that have sounded arrogant, it has never been my intention to sound arrogant - I don't think it is possible to tell the tone with which something is said over a blog. But I'm not going to waste time in a who is mean to who pi$$ing contest. As for Nudge's comments, we're all entitled to our opinions - he thinks I'm wrong, ducky for him - I think he needs to get a life that leads him to something more interesting than coming on to the blog about a team he admittedly has no feelings about one way or the other.
Fair enough Chip...
As far as Nudge goes though...you're wrong...and I find it a bit humorous you haven't figured that out yet.
I am a big loser
Bomber -
At 29 I wasn't around for the Big Red Machine, and I don't really remember the great Twin teams of the late 80's early 90's so the only dynasty I know firsthand is the Yankees of the 90's. To me the question is which is more impressive, the Yankees winning 4 titles 5 years or the Braves making it to the playoffs 14 years in a row - I'm inclined to go with the Yankees, but the Braves can't be dismissed either.
there you go again chip
Figured out what Observer, that there's a very good chance you and Nudge are the same person, and probably have about a dozen other monikers, maybe even some of those profiles are of posters who I agree with from time to time? It isn't that I haven't figured it out, it is that I don't particularly care.
Nudge is one of Us I don't have time to X-FIles this mess becasue then it will mess up your brain trying to solve a on-line case I know several times Casual or whoever has said they have given hints but I have a feeling NUdge is amoung the circle of the regulars.
several names come to mind.
A few comments about Joe Morgan
From 1972-1977 was easily the best 2nd baseman in the game .6 yrs.2 MVPs
Was a terrible post season performer a career .182 average.
Tends to lionize all members of the "Big Red Machine" at the expense of other better teams.
Oakland beat the Reds and Dodgers in the 72 and 74 WS
The Reds lost to an inferior Mets team in 1973
and after the successful 75-76 teams lost out to the Dodgers every year Morgan remained a member of the team.
Oakland at the time was truly "Dynastic" the Reds a great 2 yr run.
Morgan at the age of 34 became a slightly mediocre .240 hitter.Check.
Chip.... I'm in my mid thirties but the "flow of stories from my community were endless I became a Yankee fan through my immediate family who were fans from the 20's so all that history as well as the storyline of the Dodgers who were big in my community before my birth and the death of Jackie and the Team leaving Brooklyn played a part if the exodus of fans some rooted for the mets. the giants Dynasty. and in particular the A's and the Red's alot of people would complain that outside of the 27 yankees whom many do not know that the A's or the Red;s is one of the best all time teams . of course I as a Yankee fan and a witness of the 90's run would argue that.
I believe this Blog in general has under estimated the value of "The Farns". A reliever that throws 95+ and has "closer" experience, will be highly sought after as we approach July 31. He is also very valuable to the Yanks, as the R\Sox hitters are not "digging in" when "The Farns" is toeing the rubber. If Cashman decides to move this guy, he better get some serious value in return.
all I got to say is Jeter is one of the best baseball players in history it took just as long to get to Joe D's hits as joe took, Jeter also is nasty when it comes to hitting in the clutch, over .620 with runners in scoring position and two outs. Thats amazing, talk all you want about anyone else, but Jeter is the "Da Man"
I was listening to Espn Radio Stephen A. Smith Says Roger is garbage and He's not ready..
He's killing on Giambi on the radio using greenies... While He support Barry Bonds..... I wonder why..
Chip,
I can assure you that Nudge and I are not the same person. I can also assure you I have never posted in here under any other moniker than 'Casual Observer', but would note than there have a mulitude of posts with that moniker that I am not responsible for....so be it. I couldn't really care less. As Nudge once pointed out...if one has reasonable compreshensive skills it isnt all that hard to decern which posts are mine and which are wanna-be's.
As far as Nudge goes...maybem it's because I am NOT a Yankee fan...but if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, acts like a duck....then, in my opinion, it is very likely ..a duck. Further, it is my opinion that Nudge is a brioght guy who knows his baseball and knows the Yankees flaws and has a deep seated annoyance of the chest thumping knuckledraggers who have nothing of value to add to a conversation, and he also is quite pissed off at the management team of the Yanks, and believes they are responsible for the decline this franchise is experiencing currently.
You should have figured this out by now Chip.
Chip you are correct. Farnsworth to Philly makes sense... If you think Myers is OK you are crazy.. he left the game during the inning. We have 4 months to go, so his durability should be a concern.
farnsworth is definitely worth a backup catcher and something else...his contract is not that terrible..
add another team... The orioles with that staff.
I must say ruse I never saw a game played with these teams or cannot remember the games so most of the opinions come from stories.
In morgan most of the time the "Scrub" on the team is probally the most vocal or smartest player. Scooter was excellant in seeing good SS's or infielders. Giradi well you saw his skills.
HUMMMH THIS IS INTRESTING. BOB WATSON WHO IS NUDGE?? BUT IN CHIPS WORDS I SEE THAT CHIP IS SAYING "WHO CARES" ELEMENTARY BOB WATSON
Good Morning All,
Well, it's morning for me and Ruse cause we're out west, so Good Afternoon to the rest of you. :-)
Andy did a good job last night and Kudos to Meinkiewicz and Jeter for a 3 hit night. I'm glad that Mo had a "safe" 9th and sealed the deal. I thought that we caught a break with Schilling not having his good command. He took one for the team and saved the Red Sox pen last night. Just another reason as to why they are a tough team.
Now we have the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" coming in. (Man, I hate that name)! This is going to be another hard series as you all know as the Halos have our number. I hope that we can change that and show them a "new" number. I'd like to see us take 5 out of the next 6 before going to Fenway next weekend.
A tough haul!!!
On the Clemens front, I'd like to see him get one, hopefully 2 more starts in the minors before he pitches for the Yanks. As someone said earlier, he's in "spring training" now and he needs to work on things. I believe that the Yanks can hold the fort with the rotation that we have until he's ready.
I see some of you got upset with Kruk's comments about the east being a one horse race. Well, right now, it is. The Red Sox spilt their last 6 games and only lost one in the standings. It's up to the Yanks to prove Kruk and all of the other "experts" wrong. Taking 2 out of 3 from the Red Sox isn't enough to change people's minds. Building up a head of steam going into Fenway next weekend will start to do that, especially if we can take at least 2 out of 3 from the Halos.
Don't be surprised to see a pitcher by the name of Edwar Ramirez in NY sometime within the next 6 weeks
Relieving for Trenton and Scranton this season he's pitched 19 2/3 innings
w/ 39 So
7 hits
opponents are hitting .103
JOHN G.
Are you a southerner or northerner ?
Yes ruse.....I have read a little about Ramirez....he looks to be a good 'un.
As a side note...the young fella pitching for Portland last night against the Rocket is Clay Bucholz.....keep that name in mind. He is going to be a very good one.
Kat-
The least you can do is update a final score on last nights game. I used to come here for updates when Jim B. ran the blog. But since he has left this is the last possible place us Yankee fans would find any updates. I understand that you might not be a Yankee fan and that is perfectly fine with us but the least you can do is act like you care about this blog. It seems more and more like you were forced to do this job and it is an insult to any long time blogger on here. Other than the everyday lineup I hardly ever see any other posting from you. You took over a blog for the greatest sports franchise in the history of sports. Please Kat if you don't want to do this job there are plenty of longtime bloggers on here that I am sure would love to run the blog.

Roy,
Would it KILL Farnsworth to throw a strike once in a while? Keeping the Red Sox from digging in is one thing. Sending them to first base for free is another...
Jeff Nelson used to go through stretches of 2 or 3 weeks where he couldn't find the plate. Farnsworth is going through his own stretch like that right now. It's called "his entire Yankee career."
I don't care what women's diet he went on - he's still a fatso. Hey Kruky, wanna lose some weight? Get your lazy arse off the couch and do something.
Its facinating to me how this guy keeps his job with BBTN. He's an idiot. OK John, lets pronounce the division race over in May - Red Sox over the Yankees.
Kruk's not alone, but how many baseball 'analysts' are singing that tune? Not many. Lets see... Bill Simmons and John Kruk... Oh and Big Papi. That's quite a brain trust. Even yellow dog johnny Red Sox fan Pete Gammons is issuing caution saying don't print the tickets yet. The Yankees shouldn't be counted out of the division race. There's no discounting the advantage Boston has, but there are definitely kinks in their armor. Meanwhile, Yankee pitching is starting to assert itself and I think the team is a little excited about their young guys - Hughes and Clippard. Maybe not so much Clippard (although its possible), but before its over this year Hughes will make his presence felt. Andy and Wang pitched great in this series - the Rocket's coming back.
There's plenty of season left, my boys, for anything to happen. So don't count your chickens Fatso.
Every year ESPN declares the Yankees' season over at some point during the season.
It's not worth expending energy over.
"My wife says I'm not as disgusting to her as I used to be!"
-John Kruk 2006
Ruse,
I use to live in SoCal. I was in Rancho Santa Margarita for 6 years. We moved to Phoenix 4 years ago and we're probably going to stay. My youngest son is a sophmore at the University of Arizona.
I love San Fransisco though and have been there 4 times since moving west. I'll be up there in August for a long weekend.
Finally....
A post by an anonymous that makes sense.
I concur.
Can someone please tell me why Kyle Farnsworth is still in the Majors? Anyone? And he thinks he can speak out against Clemens? Hey Kyle, how about you try to get through 1/3 of an inning without an earned run, THEN maybe start to talk crap about the guy who has 7 Cy Youngs, huh?
Also, why does Joe Torre even bother to put GIambi in the lineup anymore? It has become glaringly apparent that he can't hit an elephant with a moonbeam!!
Other than that we won our first series since the beginning of May, I believe. Not bad, still noit hopeful for the year but atleast we beat Boston.
All the ESPN blasting is getting funnier by the minute.
Buster Olney makes it perfectly clear he is a LA Dodgers fan, has been since he was a kid. He was a Yankees beat writer and knows Cashman very well so he doesn't really bash them that much.
Why does everyone get insulted about what these guys say? When was the last time any of them were right about anything, and if they were, how often does it happen? They are basically the same as all of us except they get PAID to offer their opinions.
My friends and I laugh every time Steve Phillips comes out with his "Who is going where" column before free agency because he is about 90% wrong every year.
The only two people on ESPN who I know of that have admitted they are Sox fans are J.W. Stewart and Peter Gammons, and they are both New Englanders so what is wrong with that? Gammons wrote a very positive piece about the Yanks just the other day, saying they will get back into the race and they shouldn't fire Torre etc.
The Yankees are the most popular team in the world so I have a hard time believing people who are constantly crying that "everybody hates us". It just doesn't wash.
Okay, back to baseball. Last night was a good game, Jeter is the man and it was nice to see Damon finding his stroke. The Yanks caught some breaks too and it's funny how I haven't read anything about the gift the Yanks were given by the umpire at second base last night, when the night before the same call went against the Yanks, this blog erupted. It all evens out......
Pettitte is too much for me sometimes. It's almost as if he can't pitch without some kind of trouble but he seems to always get out of it. I remember hearing him say in an interview one time "aw, you know me, I'll go out and scatter 12 hits, two men on in every inning, but I'll try to bear down and get out of trouble" and that's what he does. He's a beast!
Finally, it was one game and that is all. The Yanks need to put together a few weeks of 2 out of 3 series wins in order to be considered "in it" again so I enjoyed last night's game and I'm cautiously looking forward to the next one. The Angels seem to have the Yankees' number so let's hope for the best.
I'm listening to FranDog on the net. The discussion is "name the 10 greatest Yankees".
Here are my 10 not in any particular order:
Ruth
Gehrig
DiMaggio
Mantle
Berra
Mo
Jeter
Dickey
Gomez
Reynolds
Honorable mentions:
Munson
O'Neill
Lazzeri
Dugan
Scooter
Raschi
Jim A. with his usual well thought out and reasonable posts.
As a big fan of Derek Jeter I was in awe of his recent accomplishment of passing Joe D on the all-time Yankee hit list.
Jeter' 32 and has stated a desire to play into his 40's.
In the next 6 yrs if Jeter averages 150 hits a season which is well below his career averages will put him over 3000 hits.
He may be on his way to catching Tris Speaker at 3,515.
Barring injury and no dramatic fall off in production this seems within the realm of possiblities.
AMAZING !
It's also important to note that different fans have edifferent perspectives....for example...there is not a Sox fan alive today who wont swear on the grave f his mother than Olney isnt a Yank fan...to us it seems he very stilled TOWARD the Yanks....funny eh?
Also, as far as Kruk goes...the guy is TRYING to be provocative with his statements...he has little else to offer....so at this point in time, due to the fact that the sox have the largest lead in all divisions.....he's picking the sox and making idiotic statements like "the season is over...sox win"...
Finally, as much as it pains you Yankee fans...the Sox ARE that good....plain and simple...
Not perfect....not predicting a 5 year dynasty...not flawless...but a very good, very balanced team with incredible pitching depth. That is a winning combination.
