at the risk of being negative

At the risk of sounding negative, I have bad news for you. Jason Giambi is going on the disabled list. He has a partial tear in his plantar fascia, related to the plantar fasciitis, and needs to wear a walking boot for three weeks.
It could really be a blessing in disguise for the Yankees. They can use Johnny Damon at DH on occasion or Hideki Matsui/Bobby Abreu. Plus, Giambi wasn't really hitting much lately anyway.

They have had some good news offensively of late. Robinson Cano had four hits, including three doubles, last night, and hit to all sides of the field. And Damon -- who got his 2,000th hit last night -- seems to be coming around.
How about this amazing little note? There is not one game this year in which both Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada have failed to get a hit. Last night would have been the first if Posada's 9th-inning pop-up had not fallen in for a hit.

Slamming head against the wall.

Well if the plan is to use the DH spot for one of the outfielders then Kevin Thompson will get the call up since Melky will be playing every day and they'll need a back up outfielder. If not, they could call up Shelly Duncan, give him a shot at DHing or Eric Duncan and use Phelps at DH.

How come Bonds is healthy and Giambi is literally falling apart when he's 9yrs younger?

Phucker, probably because Bonds is still doing roids and Jason isn't.

At least it clears a spot for a possible callup or trade to be made.Andy Phillips or Thompson will get the call.

So the question before the panel of experts is this:

Do the Yankees, as Kat suggested, use the DH spot to rest OF'ers, play Melky every day and call up Kevin Thompson

Call up Shelly Duncan and give him a shot to pull a Jack Cust

Call up Eric Duncan (hitting better of late) play him at first and use Phelps as the DH

Sign Bernie Williams (that one's for Rick)

KAT
you've been getting a lot of mileage out of this negativity rap !
Could you find out what happened to the Yankee catching prospect JESUS MONTERO ? Some of us Yankee nerds are curious.

Phillips? COme on Ruse.

We may have few options but the last thing I want to see is yet another struggling 190 hitting 1st baseman.

ruse -

Probably won't be Andy, they would have to clear a spot on the 40 man roster to add him and they already are going to have to do that (probably by moving Pavano to the 60 day DL) when Clemens comes up on Monday. Not sure how many other guys they can move to the 60 (Karstens, Rasner maybe) and they probably don't want to waive any of the guys already on it.

Kat: I loved your post, not the bad news portion of it mind you, but the way you presented it. You are a funny one!
AJ: I think Ms. O'Brien has fired a shot across your bow my friend.

This news is not good though, Giambi seems to do well against Boston. I don't want to see Andy Phillips come up, he's old news if you ask me. I'd rather take a look at someone else. This is a good time to get more flexible w/ the roster though so one of the Kevin's or Andy might be the choice. Shelley Duncan can't catch a ball to save his life and E. Duncan can't hit.

Also, see this interesting article on SI.com- a very good summation of "what went wrong" for our beloved Yanks: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/john_donovan/05/30/yankees.mistakes/index.html

This is definately a blessing in disguise, he hasn't hit at all lately, and sadly what should be the most potent offense in history has struggled. He will get a rest... and they will use his spot w/ Phelps getting some more consistent at bats and he won't be around to clog up the bases... hopefully they can run a bit more hell they were 2nd or 3rd overall last year in stolen bases.

I'm a bit disapointed that Hughes is out till the allstar break... however, bright side to this is his arm will not end up getting overworked this year as was the fear w/ his early callup. I really hope this latest win will spark something... its getting really hard to watch... i vote for a sweep of the Sox on a 10 winning streak. The pitching is there, the offense is there, they've just gotta put it together.

Ruse

Jesus Loves you...He will return.

CHIP

If they have Phelps why would they need Shelley Duncan ? or Shelley Fabares ? Eric Duncan stays because he's LH and he's hitting better of late.
Phillips or Thompson.

Drew

I SECOND YOUR VOTE!!

But I'll happily take 2 of 3 and launch the Rocket the next day nomsayin.

Just did a quick look at the Yankee 40 man roster - Humberto Sanchez, Jose Veras, Darrel Rasner are already on the 60 day DL, Pavano is next likely to go on it for Clemens, that leaves Karstens if they wanted to pull someone else not on the 40 up to the bigs. As for people on the 40 anyone think Juan Miranda (cuban defector 1b) is ready to make the jump from Aball? Nah, me either.

Others on the 40 include Sardinha, Kevin Reese, Kevin Thompson, and Alberto Gonzalez (not counting the pitchers)

MR. GREEN JEANS

Phillips is hitting .330 at SWB lets face it they ain't got nothin better down there.S Duncan hasn't been hitting all that well of late.
Maybe a trade is brewing?

ruse -

I agree, it will probably be Thompson and like Kat said, the team will rotate outfielders as DH's to give them a break and Melky will play everyday. It's the simplest and most sensible move. The two Duncan's was just a suggestion if the Yankees wanted to take a look at someone they haven't seen yet.

CHIP

The Yanks might release Pavano unconditionally.MLB has yet to make a decision on Giambi.A slim chance he might suspended.

I think the Yankees and any team for that matter is foolish not put in clauses that guard against 40million dollar A$$clowns literally stealing their money.

The man should be on trial for grand larceny!!

Whoever replaces Giambi has to be better than Thompson - he sucks (only slightly better than Nieves) call up Phillips.

ATTENTION PLEASE!

PAGING MR. THEO EPSTEIN....PAGING MR.THEO EPSTEIN....Mr. Epstein, please go to the nearest keyboard and respond. We know you're out there.

Thank you.....carry on.

Ruse/Chip,
Why don't they send down Nieves and bring up Chavez? Chavez is hitting .196 but 19 hits is still better than Nieves.

Ruse:

Who in the HELL is Jesus Montero? I try to follow the minors but I never heard of him. Also, don't dis Shelly Fabares - she is still hot! Shelly Berman has been playing Larry David's father - he's available.

Tidbit:

F-worth has a grand total of TWO 1-2-3 innings in 22 appearances.

JOHN

But Nieves is an RBI machine.
I'd like Omar Santos called up.

I would take Shelly Fabares to a strip club anytime!

While cashing a check today, I yelled "HAH!" at the teller, hoping she would make a mistake in my favor. But she called over the security guard. A legal maneuver by me?

shame on you Zander...Shelley is old enough to be your mother...and if not..you are as old as the hi....errrr....me.

ZANDER

Jesus Montero was the catching prospect from Venezuela the Yanks signed for over a million $$$ it turns out he lied about his age and to make matters worse he showed up somewhere within the system out of shape.

Could I have slapped the cash out of her hand ??

Ruse,
Yes, you're right Santos is MUCH better .265, 22 hits, and a whopping 8 RBI's. Basically equalling Nieves' production for the next 2 seasons!!!

Casual:

Shelly Fab is a hottie. I also like her aunt, Nanette Fabray.

ZANDER

I would agree w/that assessment Fabares is a hottie and roughly my age.

Zander,

I too think Shelley is a hottie...have for 35 years.

We are dating ourselves, my friend.....most of these folks probably have no idea who she is.

Cas

Good to see you my friend. Sorry I've been away I've very busy firing and hiring sushi chefs. Seems a few them don't wash their hands and have significantly raised the ERA of my most prized posession.

By the way a funny tidbit about yours truly-"Theodog" Apart from being a truly gifted GM and the virtual architect of the 1st place best record in baseball-07 SAWKS I've also suffered from a spelling disorder all my life. Hence-"Posseion"

Shelley was born in 1944 makes her 63.A little older than I thought.

Casual,
Jeez!!!! I turn 35 this year!!! I only remember Ms. Fabares from "Coach", but I think I'll stick with Selma Hayek

Zander

HAHAHAHAHA LMAO

"Hah!" that was nice. :-)

Carnak the Magician has given me, exclusively, his predictions for the rest of 2007:

We win 83 games.

We offer Mo and Posada one year extensions on a take it or leave it basis.

No soup for Abreu. No if Spray-Rod wants 7 years and 200 mil.

Sign Torii, Teixeira and Buerhle. Cashman's last stand.

JOHN

Selma is stunning .

Theo,

It's not a problem...I appreciate what stress you must be under......sushi chefs, or good ones, are a rare commodity.. One suggestion...you might try Okijima's personal sushi chef for Dice......he seems to be working wonders for the "Oki-dokie."

Who the phuck is Shelly Fabares?

Hoochi-Kapista...is Selma a hottie or what!!!!

Hey she was doing the vertical bop with ol' Pierce Brosnan (roughly my age) in that whacko movie with Woody Harrelson....maybe I have a shot?

Probably best for Giambi and the team. Gives the Yanks more flexibility now. Expect Damon to DH a lot with Melky in CF.

Call up Shelley Duncan please!!!

Theo,

Shelley was your fathers biggest fantasy, and your mother has always hated her...with a passion.

The great actress who starred in such forgetable films as "Clambake" and "Girl Happy"

John:

No question I also go with Selma Hayek over Shelly F.

But it's like comparing Reggie Jackson at age 61 to Stray-Rod.

Selma, Pamela Anderson or Catherine Zeta-Jones. Please rank.

I have been given direct and unequivacal orders.....

Time to grill!

Later boys and girls...gonna be a great weekend.

Cas

Oki-dokie has fallen in love with KFC. It's crazy but since he arrived and "Tek" had his usual KFC Friday back in ST Oki hasn't been seen with out greasy fingers.

Hey whatever works. LOL :-)

Claudia Cardinale
Selma
Hideko Takamine

Jeff:

Please don't bring up Giambi when we're debating hotties!

Ruse:

Come on, Clambake is a classic. Should have won an Oscar! Bill Bixby, the future TV "Hulk", is in it.

Salma ZEta Pam

But it's tough cause Zeta permaneantly damaged herself with the Michael Douglas "Signing" Nomsayin

She'll never be the same.

ZANDER

LMAO .You don't miss a step!

Claudia Cardinale in The Professionals - hotter than hot.

Racquel Welch, Brigitte Bardot, Jayne Mansfield. For face only, Jaclyn Smith.

Sort em out boys...

A-Rod may have more "power" but I Win.

Rank away boys

Jessica Beil
Jessica Alba
Scarlett Johannson

Is any of this stuff "Off Topic" ?

"The Professionals" great movie.Claudia is also great in 8 1/2. I like Isabelle Huppert and Juilette Binoche.

Derek PTRS:

All 3 are 10+ and totally off the charts. A blessing on your house, my son. Also, if there are any leftovers, I'm here for you.

Do we have enough photo info to rate Stray-Rod's "mysterious busty blonde" ?

Tyra Banks...Jordana Brewster...Miss Universe-YEAH YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT "UNIVERSE!!" Vanessa Minillo...Mariah Carey...

KISS THE RINGS B&*CH!!

Ruse

Juliette Binoche

Nice one!!

Zander

The photos i've seen are kinda grainy from a distance and her arms looked kinda "jacked" like you see her arm from the side and his arm from the side in the post photo.

Let's just say there should've been quite a larger discrepency in diameter.

We have to give Diane and Lucy equal time !

Derek PTRS:

Two Jessicas. That's a big problem. I was once dating 2 women both named Sally. I asked my secretary to make sure she asked for a last name if one of them called, but she refused. She then started calling them The Sally Sisters. Also, I occasionally forgot what I was doing in the sack with each of them. Believe me, not good.

if they want it after reading this goofy thread.

Zander,
Salma is my #1
Catherine Zeta? - Around 20th
Pam Anderson - 437th? That much plastic is fine in toys, not in a woman

A-rod and His wife in Boston holding hands

http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/sports/BO53827

BOSTON -- New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez was seen strolling the streets of Boston hand-in-hand with his wife

Diane and Lucy are viewing us with contempt. And rightly so. But hey, there's no game today. How many times can you comment on Torre or Giambi ??

Zander

I'm a world series MVP.

My secretarys have secretarys.

Again Kiss the RINGS!!

Sorry I can't keep this up

Ruse,
Good idea, let's get back to baseball and try to get the Yanks back to atleast .500, THEN we can solve World Hunger and achieve World Peace - Yankees first though

1. Call up Phillips. he can platoon at 1st with Meintkiewicz.
2. Make Phelps the DH. He's been hitting on a sub part-time basis. I think that he'll be fine playing most games at DH. When he doesn't play, Rotate Damon/Matsui/Abreu at DH.
3. Play Melky more than Abreu. In fact, only play Abreu when either Damon or Matsui is the DH.

What else can we do? There's not much left at AAA to choose from.

Forget Bernie, PLEASE.

It will take him a month to get in playing shape and we don't have a month to spare.

Anybody notice that the photos of Stray-Rod's wife and the "busty blonde" look almost IDENTICAL ?? In the Daily News today.

Ruse

Lucy and the Ninja understand. They both stood up for the "Stray Rod" this morning.

"Stray Rod"

That's really awful I can't believe they had the gaul to print that.

John G,
Doesn't Phelps catch too? Can we send Nieves down to SWB, have Phelps relieve Jorge
Phillips to platoon with Dougie (maybe they'll hit a COMBINED .300?)

JOHN G.

I concur.Phillips can play 3B 2B and RF as well.

Torre said he's concerned that there is "tenseness" in the locker room. Here's a solution: The NYY establish a strip club underneath Yankee Stadium. Would cut down on DUI's and wife problems.

Zander what's the link?

I'm such a hypocrite.

I keep saying how shameful this whole thing is but i can't resist.

It would be a boost if the Yanks could pickup Barajas in a trade.

ZANDER

Don't ballplayers have to watch the "poontang" levels?

John and Ruse,

Good points guys. Phillips is versatile and can fill in anywhere in the IF.

Phelps would be a good backup to Posada, but the pitching staff is happy working with Nieves.

I know that Nieves is really weak with the stick, but I wouldn't want to fix the lack-of-hitting problem with Nieves by creating another problem with catching defense or game calling.

I would'nt call up thompson I wanna see sardhina . Thompson look like a deer i nthe headlights last time up. The only worry now would be Melky's bat he better step it up or he's trade bait

Finally, we learn about the basis for the rift between Jeter and Stray-Rod:

Jeter is single and takes beautiful actresses and models to classy restaurants and private clubs. Totally discreet.

S-Rod is married and escorts busty, skanky groupies to strip clubs. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Besides, for Nieves to hit better he needs to play more. In that case, DH Posada a few times in addition to resting him.

Another option might be going out and getting a right-handed stick.

I just don't know who and I'm not trading any of the pitching prospects to do it.

Michael PTRS:

Just enter New York Daily News.

Ruse:

Prize fighters are typically celibate for 2 weeks before a fight. To preserve aggression, and also "precious bodily fluids", as in "Dr. Strangelove". A great movie, almost as good as "Clambake".

Peter Sellers was "the man"

ZANDER

I'm big Peter Sellers and Sterling Hayden fan.Hayden in "Asphalt Jungle" and Sellers in "Two-Way Stretch" as well many other films.

BREAKING NEWS:

The NYY have released Wil Nieves and signed Bill (Moose) Skowron. According to GM Brian Cashman, "It's true that Bill is 76, but we feel he can hit better than Mienty and field better than Phelps."

Ruse:

Yes on Sterling Hayden and Asphalt Jungle. Also Hayden played the corrupt police captain in Godfather I.

ZANDER

But can Skowron's back hold out ?

I'm listening to the radio and they're still talking about what A-Rod did in the game last night. I know that we basically put this to bed, but i have to get this off of my chest.

For anyone who didn't like what A-Rod? GET OVER IT!

What I'm sick and tired of hearing about is this crap about "baseball ettiquette" or these so-called "unwritten rules". For example, it "bad ettiquette" to bunt on a pitcher that's throwing a no-no. Bullsh*t!!! If I'm batting and the pitcher is throwing a no-no against my team? I'm bunting! Like I want this guy to do that to my team! Yeah, Right!
I'm looking to win the game not to get this idiot in the record books.
One other thing: remember the "bloody sock" game? F**k that: I'd have everyone in the lineup bunting and make Schilling field his position.

Did A-Rod kill anyone? Did he go out of his way to injure a Blue Jay player?

Come'on.

I just read Giambi is gone for at least 1 month.

Sup peeps!

JOHN G.

Let alone Steroids and amphetimines.Spitballs.Bad umpiring.

Oh my god it's much worse than I thought.

I'm not going to reprint any of what i've just read but this is crazy.

If he freaks out and doesn't hit this whole thing will really piss me off.

But what if he becomes "the bad boy" hah!! IE Goes on a tear ala April with that grin from last night!!

I cross my fingers.

Do you think Pedrioa fake tough guy wannabe will have revenge on Arod by throwing ball on his face if Arod trying to break the double play again?

Ruse,

All bad stuff to be sure!

Can't do anything about the umpiring. Bad calls happen.

Giambi is probably done for the year. He has a really bad injury as Kat mentioned. It's in a bad spot on his foot and he's probably in a lot of pain.

This guy is just no help to us. He breaks down all the time.

John

Couldn't agree more.

I guess if the shoe was on the other foot I may be upset especially if we went on to lose A SIXTH STRAIGHT GAME.

But it wasn't. And there was something about A-Rod doing it-and dare I say his grin that made me proud.

I know it wasn't the most ethical thing but in the current newscycle it almost fit the mood. I was grinning right along with him I personally LOVED IT. Highlight of the game and the most fun I've had watching a Yankee game since early Oriole April.

We haven't had much to cheer about so even if it's a little mischevious at this point I'LL TAKE IT.

John G:

Totally with you on "deception":

What is a changeup but deception?

Square around to bunt and then swing away ?

Gene Michael successfully executed the arcane hidden ball trick several times in the late 60's / early 70's. Beautiful.

I once saw SS Rizzuto and 2B Jerry Coleman fake a phantom DP on a pop-up! The runner slid into second and was doubled.

Everyone is constantly trying to steal signs. I would draw the line against stealing them with cameras, though.

Pine tar on bats, yes. Cork, no.
