Predictions for '07

Sorry for the lack of blogging, but I'll have to ask you to be patient this week. I just moved into my apt. and can't get internet set up until Friday. If I'm at the stadium, of course it's no problem, but otherwise ...

First pitch of the 2007 season is just about 15 hours away.
So I'd like to hear anybody's predictions for this season.
Yankees W-L and place in division
how far will the yankees go? world series? LCS? division series? no playoffs?
And do you have a pick for MVP/Cy Young in the American League?

Those of you who saw Newsday's baseball preview may have seen my picks. For everyone else, I picked the Yankees to win the World Series. I think once Wang gets healthy and Roger Clemens signs (I think he will) they'll be hard to beat. I also picked Alex Rodriguez to win the MVP.

Comments (33)

Yankees go 99-63 win the EAST by 7 games ,play the Dodgers in the WS winning it all in 6 games...Abreu wins the AL MVP,Santana repeats as the Cy Young winner...By the way Ted "Jaret" Lilly wins the NL Cy Young

Thanks Kat, you are doing a great job considering all that you have going on right now...a new job, moving, chasing the team all around Florida and now back to NY, and trying to keep us bloggers happy.

If Wang comes back strong, I think the Yanks will win the division again with or without Clemens, although I too think he will choose the Yanks. Once post season gets here, if our top 3 rotation is healthy and RC is here, I think we will make it to the WS again, not sure on winning it though.

I think Santana will win the CY again and Bobby Abreu will be MVP. I just have a feeling with a full year of hitting 3rd in this lineup, he is going to have a monster season.

LET'S GO YANKEES...CLAP, CLAP...CLAP, CLAP, CLAP.

Hey ruse

We had the exact same picks for CY and MVP. WOW!
And remember buddy, Mr. Lilly ONLY has to win 10 games for you to decalre me a baseball genius! Let the counting begin.

Rick : You're on!...one last prediction : Clemens stays in Houston ,the Yanks promote Hughes after the All-Star break ,he goes 7-2 in 11 starts down the stretch.

My predictions:

Yankees win their 12th AL East

Yankees win the World Series 4-3 over the Diamondbacks

Side note: Hughes out pitches Big Unit in the WS

Matsui AL MVP

AL CY Young Santana

NL Cy Young Zambrano

World Series MVP A-Rod

and Hughes gets called up at the end of May and wins 14 games and is dominant

Yanks, 97 wins, 27th World Championship winning 4 of 7 against the the crosstown METS.

P.S: I can't wait to hear "Gloomy"'s predictions!

AL East: Yankees (96-66)
AL Central: White Sox
AL West: Angels
AL Wild Card: Red Sox

NL East: Phillies
NL Central: Cardinals
NL West: Padres
NL Wild Card: Mets

AL MVP: Alex Rodriguez
NL MVP: Ryan Howard

AL Cy Young: Roy Halladay
NL Cy Young: Carlos Zambrano

World Series: Yankees over Phillies (in 6 games)

Yankees win their 12th AL East with 95 wins while the Sox and Blue Jays tie for second w/ 88 wins.

They beat the Tigers in the LCS, the Angels in the ALCS and then beat the Phillies in 6 to win the WS.

Awards:
David Ortiz AL MVP, even though there will be at least 3 other players who will deserve it more (Joe Mauer, Grady Sizemore).

AL CY Young Johan Santana (it should have been his 4th straight, instead he got robbed by Colon)

NL Cy Young Ben Sheets

World Series MVP A-Rod (wouldn't this be a nice kick in the butt).

Also, I do think Hughes will get called up (after the ASB) but I don't expect dominance. I think that he will be better than league average and will certainly show improvement from his first start to his last. He'll show flashes of how good he will be...but that will come in 2008.

Phuckers Crystal Ball...

Yankees return to the playoffs narrowly beating out the Cleveland Indians for the Wild Card.
We don't win the division and here's why...

I think Mussina sucks I hate him I've always hated him and I think he's going to be terrible this year. Petitte will do well when healthy but I fear a possible DL stint may be in the cards. Our offense will continue to throw down insane numbers all season keeping the team in relatively comfortable (2-4 games) control of the wildcard.

It's going to become clear early on that the pitching staff is in trouble at which time many of us on this blog will be "clammoring for clemens"-sorry HAPPY "RAD" OPENING DAY!!!
However that fat old bastard stays clear of the AL for fear of the slaughter that he would recieve and that is a good thing. He cant help us and besides Houston will be in contention.

Cashman is gonna have to pull a rabbit out of the Yankee's proverbial hat/wallet maybe this means Dontrelle Willis maybe it means Hughes ascending to his messianic potential but I believe we're gonna need what we lacked last year which was????? ANOTHER YOUNG!!!!!!!!!!!NOT OLD!!!!!!!! STUD to pair with Wang.

When we get said addition things turn around in big way and we cut the division lead in half inside 1 month ending the season on fire and narrowly coming away in first place.

The playoffs are SWEET beating Shilling, Beckett, and Mr Spicy Tuna Roll himself DICE K en-route to the 2nd "Subway Series" of the decade. Yankees defeat the Mets in a rout ala 2000.

Yankees in 4.

Cy Young -Bonderman
AL MVP -Alex "Frosted Tips"Rodriguez

If we do get the "Fat Man" I will hope for the best but I really think we need to get a big pitcher one who is under 28yrs old and preferably not a 3 month rental. One that could join Wang and Hughes as our top 3 for the next 5 yrs or so.

Kat: keep up the good work.I'm appreciate it.

Yanks 101-61.

The only award that means anything to me is Yanks win the World Series. Its not that I'm not co-operating just my thoughts on the questions. I like Jeter's response to individualistic awards.

No Yanks win any awards but tkae home number 27, priceless.

You forgot a couple. Pavano comeback player of the year. Torre manager of the year. Cashman executive of the year. Cabrera sixth man of the year. Jeter the lady bing trophy. We'll probably have the bat boy of the year and the resin bag of the year too. Geez, you guys are insufferable homers!

We'll win at least 98 games and the division. A-Rod wins MVP. This is the year we get it done. Yanks over Phillies. Mission #27 starts today!!!

First of all - Great job this morning by Kat on 1050 ESPN Radio's Jody Mac show.

Happy Opening Day, Fellow Yankees Fans. And here's looking at Number 27. Cheers.

I'm just curious - is Joel Sherman (NY Post) planning to write an article-a-day about A-Rod - if so let me know now so I can stop looking at his crap in advance.

on that note

HAPPY OPENING DAY EVERYONE - it really should be a national holiday

It SHOULD BE a national holiday and I can't figure out why it is not! I have one other prediction - I think this year's bullpen, as a group, will be the best we've had in awhile. I also think they will be the difference in the AL East race.

Hey I can still swing the bat..put me in coach!

88-76 missing out on the playoffs.

Pitching is way too thin and Hughes is not yet ready.

No hitting from the first base position and Giambi batting .250 puts two holes in the lineup.... but the offensive woes will all be blamed on A-Rod who I think will have a decent but not great season and be gone next season.

Jeter had a career season last year to save them but can't repeat the trick this year.

By the end of the season, New York fans will see why Philadelphis fans booed Abreu out of town after half a season of lackluster play and letting balls fall behind him because he is afraid of the wall.

My younger brother won two tickets to Opening Day at a charity auction this weekend - he's taking his girlfriend - I'm going to smack him in the head next time I see him.

Not that I want to give the troll a forum, but a couple of my friends have mentioned that I'm going to hate Abreu - here's the thing I think on that:

Abreu is a lot like Bernie Williams - he's not a vocal guy, just wants to be left alone to do his business and in Philly that was impossible. He was looked at to be a leader and mentor to the younger players and that's not a role he's comfortable with. Here in NY he can just slide into the lineup, and play the game. I think he'll be great.

That guy is a jeolous imbecile. Abreu was an incredible addition and with the way things set up for him on the right side of Yankee Stadium I believe he will have a career year. Abreu is going to surprise people.

Phucker : It's not like Abreu was chopped liver up until now. He's always been a .300 hitter on average 22 HRs 100 RBI 40+ Doubles .Good baserunner. Now with this lineup we might get a career yr out of him...he's an all around better defensive outfielder than the last guy .

KATWOMAN-
Based on your predictions, your new "handle" is "POLLYANNA". Please don't disgrace your journalistic fraternity, (ala Peter Gammons), by becoming a "homer". Maintain some sence of objectivity. Good luck on the "move", and please don't ask Pavano to "lift" anything.

Roy - shhh

Abreu wasn't disliked for not being a leader or mentor to the younger players. He was booed because he consistently gave up on balls hit to right field, didn't hustle consistently and lost his power stroke. On top of that he adopted the Randy Johnson approach to questions from reporters and rejected the fans. He was considered "Aloof".

Yes he did do well after the trade going to a team that had already locked up the division and slid into a position that was being filled piecemeal. This season he has to endure the struggles and expectations from the beginning. He still is a bad defensive player. That doesn't change by going to a new team.

There is a reason why Wang is so important to this team. He keeps the ball from getting to the outfield which is easily the worst fielding outfield in baseball. Abreu has the arm but no glove. Damon has a decent glove but no arm. Matsui is a DH waiting to happen but Giambi already has that spot clogged up.

But it is what it is.

Troll

What are you crazy? DAMON HAS A CANON IN CENTERFIELD!!!!

Troll

In all seriousness Abreu was awesome last year and until i see evidence of him being-your words "a bad defensive player" I remain suspect of you. In words of Steven Colbert...

You're on NOTICE!!

MV -

After seeing what happened to Aaron Rowand when he crashed into that wall I don't blame Abreu for not giving himself up for the ball in that joke of a park (and by joke I mean, any ball park I can hit a homerun in should at best be housing minor league players - it is clearly an attempt by the Philly owners to draw fans through the long ball rather than breed championships)

Actually Yankee Stadium is a band box for left hand hitters with the LF line measuring a Softball Field grade of 314 feet. The Yankees have varied the fences over the years from 280 feet (yes most little league fields are farther than that) in left and 295 feet in right, strictly for the purpose of home runs. Remeber Roger Maris? Fences were moved in for his 61 year.

Citizens Bank Park is actually 330 down the right side and 329 down the left with 13 foot walls as opposed 8 and 10 feet for Yankee Stadium. Anyone who has played ball knows that the height of the fences makes a major differnece in home runs.

Historically Yankee Stadium is a prolific home run park only behind Detroit Colorado and Texas for rate of balls flying out.

"Yes he did do well after the trade going to a team that had already locked up the division and slid into a position that was being filled piecemeal."

Yanks were actually trailing Boston at the time of the trade, and Abreu was one of the main reasons they overtook them. Obviously with the Yanks in 2nd at the trade deadline there was a lot of pressure.

How can you not pick the Yankees to win the AL East?

In a panic move the Red Sox did what they accused the Yankees of doing....A feeble attempt to buy a championship buy signing the latest saviors:
Dice K -The Josh Beckett of this year. A fly ball pitcher facing line ups he never faced in Japan while pitching in a bandbox. The latest out of Boston is that he has arm fatigue. Is this the same guy who had no problems throwing 150 pitches a game?
Drew-A player who couldn't carry Damons jock strap. Averages 120 games a year. It's a toss up over who begs out of the line up first,Manny or him.

In any event,the picks are:
AL EAST--YANKEES
AL CENT--TWINS
AL WEST--ANGELS
WILD CARD--BLUE JAYS

NL EAST--METS
NL CENT--CUBS
NL WEST--DODGERS
WILD CARD--GIANTS
