Should be fun - good luck kid.
An argument could be made that Clippard should've gotten the call, but I like this move. I think we're in the need for some type of spark, like we got with Wang 2 years ago. Hopefully it all works out.
When Hughes goes, he will be the NINTH starter on April 26.
In ST, I made the over/under on the number of starting pitchers we would use at 13. Now I'm making it 15.
Another good, young, arm being thrown into the "meat grinder" much too soon. I get the feeling our injured starting pitchers are going to be out longer than we have been been led to believe. This is getting to be a familiar story.
A young man of twenty hasn't even reached his adult physical development yet. I hope this trip will be short and sweet, that no damage will be done, and that we'll see him pitch successfully for a long time as a grownup.
seems like a panic move.no way should hughes get called up.i dont think he is quite ready yet.i dont understand why cashman and torre said in st that he would not make the team because it would hurt his development but 3 weeks later its ok? could someone please explain this to me!
I completely disagree with this move. If this kid gets bombed there is no telling what it will do to him mentally, although one could say it would make him work harder, I just don't think the time is right.
Although Igawa is proving that he s*cks as I expected he would.
If you ask most annalysts [forgive my spelling] he should have been up here earlier. Clippard hasn't been good in AAA so he needs some more time to develop. The guy is the future of the Yankees, my concern is they don't want him throwing too many innings. Will they only let him throw 80 pitches???
As for his development i think they are more concerned with his innings since he shouldn't throw more than 30 more than the previous season which puts him in the 180 range this year.
Mike... i really dont know, i guess this is bordering on desperate which makes no sense since Moose will be back in a week. I really wonder what letting kids get beaten up at the MLB level does to their psyche. Melky rebounded nicely, Halsey got traded and did ok, the rest seem to have fallen off the face of the planet. Lets hope that doesnt happen to Wright, Hughes or whomever else they toss in there.
Major League hitters know what they can and can't handle. It's a science and they are always looking for mistakes to sit on. That will be the biggest test for Hughes, the smaller strike zone and not giving in to the hitters when behind in the count. Bringing him up is a desperate move but many of us wanted him in the rotation anyway. Now we will see ... Didn't Joe Nuxhall (spelling?) pitch for the Reds during WW II as a 16 year old?
