The Yankees lost 6-4, and have now dropped five consecutive games. It's their longest losing streak since they lost six in a row May 28-June 3, 2005. They have also lost six straight road games.
Derek Jeter said his bruised left thigh is not that bad. He had very limited mobility immediately after getting hit with the pitch, but insists he will play tomorrow night.
Alex Rodriguez's hitting streak ended.
The one bright spot for the Yankees is that Chien-Ming Wang looked very good for his first start of the season.

Hi Yankee fans, um..
how does it feel to be in last place?
So pathetic, and really sad.........
SO DOES THIS MEAN AROD WON'T BE RETURNING in 2008??? --SMIRK--
----A sincere question from
the Met blog.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are gathered here today, to lay to rest a dear friend.
We are here to celebrate the time that was the YANKEES 2007 SEASON.
They are toast.
So lets throw a little dirt on the Yankees and bid them farewell. They really stunk it up.
We will try our best to
attend the remaining games
in our ticket package
that we wasted our money on.
Not to mention the time and energy getting the tickets.
What a bunch of losers.
Thanks.
joe torre
since it is well known that i believe torre should have been fired after the 2004 collapse, or after last year's, and definitely now, i'll try and address his advantages in as objective way as i can.
1) his relaxed "seeing the big picture" attitude shelters the players fron the rigors of NY.
fair point. we know that playing in NY can be challanging enough without a manager yelling at you and adding to the pressure.
however, has torre done such a good job protecting his players? the answer is mixed at best. we can all name a long players who had to go because the "couldn't cut it in NY" so onviously this ability of his doesn't really affect some of the players (contreras, weaver, vazquez... and many more i'm forgetting)
i.e. - he gets more credit than he deserves for shielding players. being relaxed is good up to a point. it doesn't work when you are not protecting your players from bad calls and opposing pitches knocking them down. and even if you are a proponent of super relaxed joe you'd still have to agree that his calmness is gone in a abad way. he's been managing out of panic this season, and all of us can cite several expmples (mo in the 8th in boston...)
so if he's not relaxed and "big picture"-like anymore - what's the use?
2) toree knows how to massage egos and work with stars.
again, a fair point. but i think it is way over-rated. look at boston - they have some big egos there, players with very "special" mannerisma like manny and schilling, and yet they play together, even when going through a bad season like last year. look at arizona 2001 - managing two ridicolous egos like schilling and randy all the way to a championship.
i really believe it's much easier than presented to keep a team of veterans together. i mean, the worst star in this league, bonds, still plays on a team that produces (though poorly, due to a pathetic lineup).
it would be very hard to convince me that if torre's gone, suddenly the yanks will turn on each other.
in addition, if torre supplies such a good evironment, how come practically all the yankee stars underperformed in the last 3 post seasons? shouldn't a manager be held accountable?
3) bottom line. most bloggers stipulate to the fact that torre can't really manage games, handle pitching or outwit his opposite number. i personally believe that his other advantages are over-rated and hyped.
this team needs new leadership.
During the hot stove league season, there were many of us with varied opinions about our team, the Yankees. All of us have hit upon of few things that are happening to this club.
First, I have steadfastly wanted Meyers traded or released. A waste of a roster spot, this is my opinion. A specialists to freeze big time lefty batters in prime time of a game. He last 2 outings against Ortiz and Crawford were failures both leading to a big inning or a loss in both cases. Joe Torre has a plan which is accommodated by players that he and Cashman have selected to perform this plan. A specialists program is not very efficient in the work place and costly but money is not the issue. I liked the FA pickup of Doug M. I believed that he could hit .270 which is his lifetime BA. His hitting is anemic thou signs of making contact are showing. Phelps should be given more oppts even to intergrate him in the backup catchers spot. Nieves has taken 11 years to get to the big leagues. His prior teams seem to know something that the Yankees refuse to acknowledge. Also, I felt the backup catcher's spot was mismanaged as far as seeking personnel for the job.
You cannot avoid injuries unfortunately they have come at the same time. I believe us fans are reacting more negatively than the players to the situation which is a good thing.
Joe Torre not once did he complain about the call at first base when the runner appeared to be out and TV verified the out. He needs some emotion. This game is played with emotion, sports professionals need emotion to perform at high levels. The manager can assist with this issue. Jeter gets hit again. Kazmir was slightly wild in the early going but no brush back anything to warn the opposing team not to pitch too close or else. The Yankee players are highly paid professionals. They are not surgeons who need to control themselves to perform well. The yankees are baseball players who need emotion in their tasks to perform well. Joe wake up. You must make adjustments to the plan. Its still early in the season but later than you think to recognize the issues.

Past time for Torre to go. Anyone else catch him laughing his a$$ of during the post game press briefing? Enough already, George please wake up and fire Torre already.
I'd be more concerned if Torre were crying during the post-game press briefing.
call as it may but here is the reasons floating regarding Managerial changes, my sources may be good or be bad anyway....
1. Torre is playing strategy here, it is hard to fire him now almost impossible , why ? becasue it would be the biggest distraction and possibl;y affect the players. Torre knows this he plays the yankees well. If the team was to fire him it should have been last year.
2. coaches
Torre connection is too MAttingly and Guidry , reason : Becasue they are worthless and pose no threat to his legacy, OPena and Bowa is cool but at arms length , Torre was,nt to keen on their hiring felt that threat. plus organization is still caught in the middle on hiring a minority manager becasue if so Willie would have been Torre auctioned him for a Job as a friend and to further oush away WIllie's chances of becoming a Yankee Mgr.
This job made Torre who he is, He desires not to be outshined or to reveal the obvious. You see that is a reason Torre continues to hint at extending his contract he wants to leave when his core players are done and over the hill. i nno way does he want any one else to manage Jeter , Mo, Jorge, and even alex while they are in Pinstripes.
Lets say pena comes in this year and the team wins 3 ws in a row already torre championships would be then ok common . Torre wants to have Stengel like championships that would be unreachable in todays market.
I'm tired will continued when asked.
Like i said take it as you want , this is from sources mouths
the yankees got beat by the indians
