Yankees owner George Steinbrenner's presumed successor as the "Boss" of the team, Steve Swindal, may no longer be that. Steinbrenner's spokesman, Howard Rubinstein, said in a release that Steinbrenner's daughter, Jennifer, has filed for divorce from Swindal. Swindal is a general partner with the Yankees and chairman of Yankee Global Enterprises LLC.
Steinbrenner is at Legends Field, but had no comment for reporters.

This is definitely not a good omen for the Yankee management team. Swindal is the most knowledgeable baseball person in the Steinbrenner family and has been the “calming influence” on George’s occasional impetuous moves. Swindal is chiefly responsible for the Cashman’s increasing power within the Front Office.
Hopefully, Cash will retain his authority in baseball decisions.

I agree with you. I'm also hoping that Swindal's leaving doesn't upset the apple cart. Cashman has done some good things this off season and I for one, do not want to see them go back to the free spending ways of the past 5 years!

Oh, boy, just what some hyperventilating Yankees fans need, another reason to panic. Although George now prefers that his family to run the business, he may change his mind if he concludes that an outsider might be more qualified for the task. After all, many huge corporations are run by outsiders whose loyalties are as big as their paychecks (and we do have the wherewithal to find some VERY loyal people). Maybe it's best that the Steinbrenner clan not be involved in the everyday running of the business, but that it's left to someone who really knows what they're doing and who really wants the job.
Swindal was nailed in a seedy part of St. Pete on Valentine's night. He forgot that a stiff dick has no conscience. He might beat the DUI charge but at a high price. Hell hath no fury like a women scorned.
