The Yankees just sent out this from Bobby Murcer: "As we begin a new year, I find myself facing a new challenge—the biggest of my life so far. Pathology reports have revealed that the brain tumor removed was malignant. I’m not having to battle this alone, but am fortified with the most loving family, an abundance of wonderful friends and fans and the very best class of physicians. I’m gaining confidence that with God and my faith leading the way, we will as a team put up an incredible fight. Please continue to send up prayers. That’s all I can really ask of you at this time."

Get well soon Bobby. Let's bring Bobby home a series this year!
A very classy guy! I remember my wife getting his autograph in a Cleveland hotel lobby while he was in a meeting with some TV execs and Lou Piniella (She forgot to get Lou's).
She interupted the meeting and asked if she could "borrow" Bobby for a minute. Lou came back with a great crack something like, "that's all he'd be good for anyhow".
Sure do wish Bobby the best and hope everything works out well for him and his family. May God bless you Bobby!
Say a prayer for Bobby and his family. May they both receive the strength necessary to bring Bobby back to good health.
Very sad to hear news like this. Bobby is one of the "nice" guys in all of baseball. I met him in spring training and he was so accomodating to my wife and annoying mother-in-law. A true class act all the way. My thoughts are prayers go out to the Murcer Family
who gives a sh** about the bench. its not a priority. cashman should get high praises for his work thus far. look at his head, he is a young man with virtually no hair left working for the boss.
Sad news about Bobby Murcer. He was my favorite Yankee growing up. Mainly because he was a "home-grown" yankee and he wore the same number as my grandfather when he played for the Yankees.
Tim: what the f*** are you smoking? I think you meant to post that elsewhere.
To many of us, for several years Bobby Murcer was the Yankees. This was never more true, however, when he drove in all five runs to beat Baltimore the day of Munson's funeral. We should now give him the strength and support he gave us that day.
Take care, Bobby. Our prayers are with your family and you as you face this challenge.
Bobby Murcer is a classy gentleman who will take on this challenge as he has others, with dignity and charm. Get well Bobby, we hope to see you in Sring Training.
A story I can think of that show's how mentally strong Bobby Murcer is when he drove in all 5 runs in a 5-4 Yankees victory against Baltimore. What made that game so special? It happened to be the day of Bobby's closest friends funeral- Thurman Munson. Bobby gave the bat he used to Diana Munson and I've heard her say it is one of the most cherished baseball items she has.
All the best Bobby and the entire Murcer family. You can win this fight!
My favorite Murcer story-I remember him telling this story a few yrs ago,and I remember watching the game on TV, 1972? I forget the yr. This is when the right field fence was about 2 1/2 feet high.A ball was hit to the wall and I believe it was Rusty Torres who went back to make the catch, jumping up fully extended ,the momentum carried him into the front row seats, landing hard ,no one could see from the field if he had dropped the ball or what had happened Murcer comes running over to see if Torres is OK ,seeing that Torres was knocked out cold,Murcer jumps over the railing picked the ball up and proceeded to put it in Torres glove,Umpire comes running over calls the batter out...get well Bobby!
God Bless you, Bobby.
Would Yankees interested going after Cliff Floyd and offering him a minor league contract.
I hope you recover soon Bobby
Bobby Murcer was and is one of the classiest Yankees I've ever had the pleasure to watch. In the early 70s he and Roy White WERE the only offense.
My thoughts and prayers are with Bobby and his family.
I began following the Yankees in 1968, and for the next six seasons after that, Bobby Murcer was THE MAN in the Bronx (and my favorite as well). Truly a class act, day in and day out. Get well, Bobby!
Bobby Murcer the gentleman, the class act.He was heralded as the second coming of Mickey Mantle as an Oklahoma boy.He had a great career and was a loyal and proud pinstriper.Very insightful as a YES commentator, always with a smile. One of the nicest men in baseball. One of the rare human beings that has no enemies.Praying for you and the family.God bless!
I am sitting here in paradise in Lago Atitlan, Guatemala, and then I went on line to read Bobby Murcer has cancer ... and you know, now I am really sad. I remember the Yankees playing in Shea Stadium in 1974, 1975 and Bobby hitting a few home runs. It seems like a page from Bang The Drum Slowly, which came out at that time. I will pray for him as he asks. He is a great Yankee and a kind, humble announcer. If there is a heaven, and I know there is, then Bobby will be there. As an aside, here at Lago Atitlan is a mass grave from a mudslide thanks to Hurricane Stan in Oct of 2005 ... you just never know ...
Forget baseball, Bobby belongs in the Human Hall of Fame. TRULY a humble guy.
Although this disease is a horrible monster and it is very sad, Bobby is a fighter and is being treated at one of the best BTC's in America. My husband, (also with a GBM brain tumor)and I have faith in his beating this and returning to the booth soon. You are in our prayers.
bobby murcer is my favorite player of alltime.i watched him play from begining to end of his career.the pressure of being compared to mickey mantle.the becoming a super star in ny.the sadest time of a twelve year when he was traded for bobby bonds.comming back to the yanks and having that great day for thurman munson.hearing that he had a rocking chair in the clubhouse when he played.hearing him sing scoal dipping man on the radio.i named my second son ROBERT MURCER ANDREWS.he,s proud of that name.we wish BOBBY MURCER god,s best.

Good Luck.

I remember Bobby hitting a homer over my head in the 5th grade. I knew he was going places. He later accidently (i hope) stepped on my face with a football cleat during me trying to tackle him at S.E. high. all is forgiven. All the best for Bobby and his family.
My mom was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in June 2005.....the prognosis was 2-3 months and yesterday we celebrated 21 months.....she is a true fighter and a huge Yankee Fane and Bobby she keeps you in her prayers so stay strong and enjoy your family.....and like us think of each day as a precious gift
Dear Bobby both my wife and I are fans of yours and we are both cancer survivors.I would like to send you a prayer and statue of St. Jude which has done wonders for us.We want you to know how much we enjoy your comments on the yes channel.God Love you and together with St Jude keep you with us.
I didn't just cry when Murcer was traded to S.F. I cried when he got moved to right field to make way for Elliot Maddox. Murcer was definitely my idol. Can you imagine the numbers he'd be putting up in today's game? Hope to see him return to the booth asap. Thanks Newsday, for this forum.
Bobby,
Although this message is belated, know that I've been praying for you since I heard the news in January.
You have handled this entire matter in the same way you have lived your life; with dignity, faith, and a positive attitude.
I thought of you often in January when I was blessed with the opportunity to donate a kidney to my ailing mom. The faith you demonstrated publicly both before and after your surgery filled my heart with a peace which made our situation much easier. Thanks to God, my Mom is doing remarkably well and I'm fine.
I've been a big fan of yours throughout your career and even used to call Sportsphone to find out if the Giants or Cubbies won after you were traded. Life was difficult before the internet!!!
I'm so happy for you and your family. May God continue to bless you with faith and peace.

Bobby you're now back at the broadcasting seen! Good luck and fight hard buddy!
Win one for the team.
Sincerely,
John Filippelli
Bobby,I was diagnosed with a GBM right after you. I had a total resection on 15 Jan 2007,followed by IMRT and on-going Temador therapy.
It's now been 9 months since the operation. The MRI's have continued to show good news.
I wish you and anyone else the best luck in beating this awful cancer.
