Bernie Williams Update

While we'll almost certainly receive Ted Lilly news tonight, don't get your hopes up to hear a resolution on Bernie Williams. Scott Boras plans to meet with Brian Cashman tonight about Williams, but Cashman just said, "That will be a conversation I will have when we get back to New York, probably ... I'm focused on the pitching right now."

as much as I like Bernie and have enjoyed his play over the yrs, he's something of a sideshow right now.Pitching pitching, pitching.

Pettitte will play next year

Pettitte has told his agent that he will pitch in 2007. Now the only question: For which team?

From the Associated Press:

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Andy Pettitte decided Wednesday he will pitch next year rather than retire, a move that will set off negotiations with his hometown Houston Astros and the New York Yankees.

“Andy told me he wants to play in 2007 and perhaps beyond,” said his agent, Randy Hendricks.

Pettitte played for the Yankees from 1995-03, helping New York win four World Series and six AL pennants. He spent the last three seasons with the Astros, who reached the World Series for the first time in 2004.

Hendricks will talk with both the Yankees and Astros. All other teams would be long shots.

“There is no timetable other than all deliberate speed,” Hendricks said.

It seems like Petite knows the Yankees have a deadline with Lilly and is letting them know he's ready to play.

The Pettitte announcement sounds like it is geared to let the Yanks know he is coming back.
I hope so.

I think you guys are on to something here. Pettite knows the Yanks have a deadline with Lilly.

Lets pull the string Baby!!Light the damn candle !!

I think we wont get Lily. There is something to this announcment at this time. 30 min before the Lily meeting with the yanks.Something is cooking

Or, it could be beneficial for us in bargaining with Lilly? We can say that were going to sign Pettite and don't really need you that bad. But, if you would be willing to take this amount, we would like to have you too. This announcement is related though.

Bernie, please retire. There's no room for you here, unless you want to be a 5th OFer, and we couldn't stand seeing you wearing another team's colors.

I want Bernie Williams to play for the Yankees in 2007

bernie williams deserves a contract as the longest modern day yankkee who has a world series ring! what happened to yankee tradition.
