Dammed Anti-NY factor!

Maybe I’m biased but I think Jeter should have won this year. It's a conspiracy; they are trying to stop him from having every coveted MLB award, even if he deserves it.

Are you F'n kidding me? Whoever voted 6th for Jeter should never be allowed to vote again.

What a Joke! A few more homers doesnt make a JETER and EVERYTHING he brings every day. What a freaking JOKE!!!!!!!!!!

Such bullsh!t.

APPARENTLY IT'S TIME WE ADD ANOTHER AWARD TO THE LIST = BIG BOOPER HR AWARD. THE WRITERS ARE SO IGNORANT ABOUT THE GAME OF BASEBALL. ALL THEY LOOK AT IS HR'S. AND THEY PLAY POLITICS WITH THEIR PETTY BIASES. WE ALL KNOW WHO THE MVP IS.

Just shows you it is all about the power stats. If you took Morneau out of the Twins lineup they still win with likes of Santana and Mauer...take Jeets out and Yanks would have sank this past season. But more happy with his 4 WS rings

Morneau wasn't even the most valuable player on his team -- that was Johan Santana. The fact that this guy won the MVP is a joke. You don't give the MVP award to a first baseman who hits 34 home runs and was invisible for the first two months of the season.

If the MVP wasn't Jeter, it should have been Santana or Ortiz.

Absolutely outrageous and not just because I am a Yankees fan. I wonder if we will ever know who voted Jeter sixth - I'll bet not. I even had Ortiz and Jermaine Dye ahead of Morneau. All this does is chip away at baseball's integrity - that, and Fox's inane coverage of the playoffs and World Series is driving me away from watching baseball on TV. Uggghhhh.

Goo point Dave. Jeter was consistently great all season. He had a bunch of hitting streaks, including his 25 games in a row. When the Yanks lost Sheff and Hideki towards the beginning of the year all those writers thought there was no way the Yankees could make up for that. Jeter was a big part of picking up the slack. What are these writers thinking?! This Yankee hate/NY Bias runs deep.

I'm angry, but not surprised. Add it to the list of anti-Yankee bias among sportswriters:

1978- Rice over Guidry for MVP(the rationale: it doesn't matter that the Yankees won, you have to give it to the everyday player)
1986- Clemens over Mattingly for MVP(complete hypocritical reversal from 1978)
1996- Hentgen over Pettite for Cy Young
2003- Angel Berroa over Matsui for rookie( Claims that Matsui was not a real rookie, but two Japanese players won the two years prior, and if Matusaka just shows up for the Red Sox in 2007 he will win this award, guaranteed.

And now the 2006 outrage of Justin Morneau.

And may I add-- the low Hall of Fame vote totals for Mattingly, Guidry and Munson, while mediocrities like Gary Carter and Kirby Puckett get in no question.

Thank God we have our championships to enjoy!

Can anyone name five AL players with a better overall season than Jeter? Placing him 2nd or even 3rd.....I got it, I could understand, but 6th place? What a damn shame.

Individual awards are no big deal. Given a choice, Derek would rather have another World Series ring for himself and his teammates opposed to a dust collecting trophy on a table at Trump Tower.

Power wins, which is a shame. Of course Jeter should have won, but you have to have watched the games to know that. Too many of the voters don't actually see many games, and they go purely on the numbers. Thus, unfortunately, Jeter will never win an MVP.

What a shame! Power over consistency --they should have another voting system..rather than biased sportswriters. All around great players getting it done should be MVP...hits steals OBP--not just HR and RBIs-- Anti Yankee at its best

It wasn't a lock going into the vote but he's a class guy and he'll produce again next year. The same writers who indicate his range to the left is weak and he doesn't put big power numbers will find something wrong with him. Just like he's the most overated ballplayer by MLB players. Who cares. He's ours to admire and cheer. I'm happy as hell to watch him everyday playing for NY.

This will have no affect on the man, our captain.

Larry you are correct!!

He's our MVP no matter what ESPN and the anti-Yankee media (prevalent through out)

The Boston media is never going to vote for Jeter (they dispise the fact that he's a Yankee).

My guess for the jerk who voted him sixth would be Peter Gammons.

Morneau had the better year then Jeter did. The Twins have two great hitters on their team and he's one of them. The Yankees had "supposedly" the next coming of murderers row. Look who protected Jeter in the lineup and then look who protected Morneau and it's obvious who had the better year. U're all just so bias b/c ur Yankee fans. I'm not a fan of either so this is coming from someone who actually took a second to think about it and didn't rely on my allegiance to one player or another.

The 6th place vote was from Joe Cowley

Oh and when the Yanks lost Sheffield and Matsui they still had a $155 million payroll. Jeter still had Damon, Arod, Giambi and Posada in the lineup. That is still an All Star lineup hitting around him. Lets not make him out to be Joe D.

Cowley writes for the Chicago Sun Times. A New York hater.

the best man won it shouldn't been that close

The lousy reporter from Chicago (Cowley) was just on Mike & the Mad Dog. They both just ripped the guy to shreds. Cowley couldn't even put up a legitimate argument. Mike & Dog weren't necessarily arguing about picking Morneau over Jeter, but why the heck he picked Jeter 6th behind Ortiz, Dye, & Thomas.

I'm shocked Morneu win the Mvp over Jeter

Shut you mouth Yankees Haters. and bashers. Jeter's deserved The Mvp this year. He's the Mvp. Jeter's has been consistent all season long with Injuries The Yankees have all season long with Matsui and Sheff. Arod's continue to struggles at the plate and not able to hit in the clutch. Robinson Cano was out two months with Hamstring Injuries . Abreu was july 31 trade deadline acquisition.

Morneau who should win, and he''s not even the Mvp of His team..Voters and writers hateThe Yankees especially Jeter, He deserved to win the Mvp.East Coast Bias, especially The Yankees.. , They spend too much money and all stars in every position.

Jeter's was supposed to win mvp this year because Yankees have more injuries in their lineup than twins does. I guess voters did not vote for Jeter, because they think jeter have more supporting cast and more hitters than Morneau Arod was inconsistent and unable to hit clutch situations all year long. Giambi was hurt with wrist.

Thanks Chris for reviving the age-old argument about Jeter being great because of who bats behind him, and because he’s a Yankee. I bet his .318 average with RISP has a lot to do with that too. Oh I forgot his gold glove. Taken right out of the Anti-Jeter manual. Not biased at all.

No doubt Jeter is the Yankees MVP but the He’s the AL MVP for his average (Jeter .343, Justin’s was .321), OBP (Jeter .417, Justin’s was .375), stolen bases (Jeter 37, Justin had 3) and hits (Jeter 217, Justin had 190) and runs (Jeter 118, Justin had 97). I won’t get into RBIs as Jeter bats 2nd and Justin bats 5th. But 97 RBIs is not bad. But you probably think that's because of the line up too. I’m not saying Justin wasn’t great for his team but Jeter was consistent and contributed with timely hits and great defense.

This reminds me when George King left Pedro off the ballot completely in 99..when everyone knows he was the best player in the league that year..payback is a bitch

Stephon marbury = Alex Rodriguez = Jeremy Shockey

They are not a team guyand They are not winners in my book.

Mariners won 114 games since Arod left. Same with Marbury who left phoenix suns.

Enough of these love Affairs for Arod.

Joe cowley of the Chicago Sun-times voted Jeter sixth. He was Just on Mike and the maddog and no idea what Jeter did vs the sox on Friday night vs timlin or Sunday night vs papelbon in the five game sweep. Now that I heard this guy who has a vote in the mvp race talk It is commical, he still thought the white sox were in contention when they were seven games back with nine to play. I f you look at the numbers Jeter except hr's and rbi's which jeter bats second and morneau fifth which makes a big difference in rbi's jeter has him beat in every category. jeter had 39 doubles, 34 sb's, a .417 obp, 118 runs scored, and won a gold glove while carrying his team when they were buried with injuries. Morneau wasn't even the Mvp of his team Santana was, how is he the mvp of the leauge.

Newsday's Ken Davidoff will be on the commercial-free Sports Talk radio show tonight at 10PM on Long Island's 90.3FM. If you're in the listening area, tune in to hear him expound on his Derek Jeter article.

EVEN YANKEE HATER ROB NEYER ON ESPN.COM SAID JETER WAS MORE DESERVING !

Jim Cowley is racist and hates black people and mixed especially Jeter.

If you disagree here is his email

jcowley@suntimes.com

They should revoke his voting rights and send him dead threats. I'm planning to sue this guy for hating on black guy.

How did the mariners do the year they won 114 games, they were buried by the yanks in 5 games in the Alcs.

The writers are justified in voting for Morneau. Stop whining Derek and yankee fans he didn't deserve the award.

All this proves is what everyone who knows sports realized a long time ago -- today's sports "journalists" don't know ANYTHING about sports.

WAAH WAAH IT'S MY AWARD!!!
WAAH WAAH

How , sweet , another troll under name of Derek Jeter?

Please D.Jeter don't forget to put some makeup and skirt, your embrassing yourself..

Quit your crying you Yankoffs!! Just think how bad Jeter would of got beat if Mauer and Santana wouldn't have taken votes away from him.

He did not deserve to win.

Love how all the Anti-Yankee fans come on here and blast us. Awesome.

This is great...watching Skanks fans whine...talking about the TWINS having a STACKED lineup. Are you f'in serious.

Jeter has a $200 million team around him. To act as though he was MVP is positively ridiculous.

But Mauer should've won it over Morneau.

100 Reasons to Hate Derek Jeter...

From Mets Fans who hates the Yankees.

. The Fist-Pump - Jeter's trademark celebration for a home run, key single, stolen base, finding a nice parking spot...

2. The Number - When he joined the Yankees, Jeter wanted a single-digit number, noting that there weren't many left, and insinuating himself into such company as Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio and Berra. Not shy, our Derek.

3. His range - and lack of it - By almost any measure, Derek Jeter is a below average defensive shortstop. He consistently ranks near the bottom of the league in most defensive categories. The debate about Jeter's defense isn't about good or bad, it's whether he's merely below average or the worst in the league.

4. The fact that many (Yankees fans) think he has great range - Jeter is a very good player, so there is a tendency for his supporters to think he is good at everything. He's not. If the stats don't convince you, just watch him. Ground balls up the middle go for base hits at an alarming rate - hence the joke: "What do you call a slow roller to Derek Jeter's left?" "Single up the middle!"

5. The Jump-Throw - Exhibit A in case of the illusion of Derek Jeter's fantastic defense. Here, he ranges to his right, backhands the ball, leaps into the air and fires the ball to first. Hey it looks nice, never mind the fact that if he just planted and threw, he'd still nab the runner by 20 feet.

6. Wristbands - complete with a little silhouette of Sir Derek himself, either jumping or watching a slow grounder roll past him for a base hit - it's hard to tell on TV.

7. Be like Derek? - Nike gear with silhouettes of athletes was first made famous by Michael Jordan. That Jeter has such a line implies that he could be considered the Michael Jordan of baseball. That's just spooky...

8. Mariah

9. Born in 1974 - the same year that gave us the Watergate scandal, Dungeons and Dragons and the Volkswagen Golf.

10. His middle name is Sanderson

11. Has played in an appalling 23 post season series - 22 of the 30 major league franchises haven't played in that many.

12. He's really quite overrated - Yes, Jeter does a large number of things well on a baseball field. But to justify the adulation he receives, he needs to add about 20 homers a year, 30 walks and a Nobel Peace Prize.

Yankees have more homegrown players than The Yankees.

Jeter
Rivera
Bernie
Cano
Wang
Hughez
Tabata
Posada

All Homegrowns. So stfu Yankees haters and bashers

LOL!!! You count Hughes and Tabata. Does every other team get to count prospects who haven't played yet?

You can always count on Skanks fans for stupidity. Keep it coming.

I love that Yankee haters come on to Yankee blogs to leave little love notes. It’s cute. Shouldn’t they be bloging about their team? I guess that’s why they hate the Yankees. The Yankees are a part of almost everything that is baseball.

Redsox fans should be writing in their blogs about Dmat or finishing 3rd, Met fans should be writing in their blogs about their guys and Twin fans should be giving congrats to their top guys but no, they are here bloging about Derek.

Priceless!

There is something inherently wrong with people who live to bring down others.

When Ryan Howard won the MVP, yesterday I was not compelled to run to a Mets site and dump on Carlos Beltran. Carlos is a terrific player, had a great season, and played a vital role in helping the Mets.

The Mets fans who seem to crawl out from under a rock to mock the Yankees, their storied tradition as the pinnacle of all that is good in sports, are truly a sad case.

Skanks fans go into other teams' forums/blogs all the time.

Nice try, though.

Beltran is a great player. He didn't deserve MVP. No way. The only comparison is that neither Beltran nor Jeter deserved it.

Simply pathetic losers.

Speaking for myself. I don't care what the Mets do, when they do it and for how long. The only time I care about them is when they are facing the Yankees. Especially when it’s the WS and we won that time in 2000. Too bad we didn’t have a re-match. Both teams came up short. The Mets went further, congrats on that, but no WS for them either.

If you compare the top 2 guys, Jeter has better numbers except for the HR and RBIs. It’s obvious that the baseball writers of America are in love with the long ball.

Batting average: Jeter .343, Justin .321
OBP: Jeter .417, Justin .375
Stolen bases: Jeter 37, Justin 3)
Hits: Jeter 217, Justin 190)
Runs: Jeter 118, Justin 97
06 Gold glove @SS for Jeter, 2nd place for Justin @ 1B

Thanks for the interest GForce go back to your Mets. I doubt you can offer any more here. You've already said your peace. I think it went something like this: "NA, NA, NA, NA, JE-TER LO-ST!" So thanks for the interest in the NYY and Jeter.

Jeter has Damon, A-Rod, Giambi and Posada around him.

Morneau has who, other than Mauer?

Nice to completely leave out vital info.

Despite all the talk I've heard saying Jeter should get it for his consistency in the past years, this is not a career award. Morneau put the Twins on his back the second half and led them to one of the biggest come-backs ever to win the central.

No doubt about it talent surrounds Derek but what does ARod and company have to do with how well Derek is in clutch situations (bunt singles, sac bunts, steals, and defense)? I think those numbers are based on hustle and knowing what the team needs to win the game. Let's talk about his defense, gold glove caliber. How did the other guys contribute to that? Easy argument to say he's not all that because there are other great ball players on the team. According to the baseball writers Mauer and Santana were major factors, in the top ten. The Yankee candidates didn't finish in the top ten. Looks like Justin had some help too. Not to mention their young sensation, Liriano. Santana put the team on his back leading the league in wins and strikeouts and ERA. But He’s not an everyday guy and he can’t hit HRs. Looking at the top two guys, Jeter should have won.

Morneau has Castillo, Torri Hunter, Mauer, Phil Nevin, Stewart- don't tell me that crap he's injured.

I also love the "Anti-NY" and "Anti-Yankee" whining, coming A YEAR AFTER A-ROD WON!!!!

You Jeter ******* are 50 shades of stupid.

I am behind my boy Jeter all the way! Jeter should have won and all this anti-Yankee stuff needs to stop. All these anti-Yankee fans need to get the hell off this blog.It is pretty sad to know that they even know about our local newspapers. Voting Jeter 6th is a shock to me. I hope Joe cowley freezes to death in the Chi-town winter this year. And for the Mets fans on this blog remember you will always be second class citizens in NY. Always will be in the backpages behind the Yanks no matter what you do. Go sign Alou to play left for you lol. After all Endy Chavez didn't save your butts robbing a homer. Now your gonna bench him lol!

Newsday's Ken Davidoff will be on the commercial-free Sports Talk radio show tonight at 10PM on Long Island's 90.3FM. If you're in the listening area, tune in to hear him expound on his Derek Jeter article.

Derek Jeter HBP 12 times. Justin Motneau HBP 5 times. Jeter played 154 games and Morneau 157. In my book the guys who played the game were pitching tougher to DJ than JM. He obviously did not have the protection that Morneau had. Hey, Morneau is a quality player but NY is NY and Minn. is Minn. DJ was hit in the hand so often that he missed at least 4 or 5 games. The pitchers knew who to throw tight to. Unfortunately, JT does not believe in an eye for and eye.

You’ve run out of constructive things to say so you start name-calling. Nice job.

Arod won last year but there have been other Yankee MVP snubs as was listed in a previous post. Which is why the Anti-Yankee argument was brought up. Since you’ve been reading for a while you might have seen it if not you should go back and check it out.

The anti-Yankee argument is valid since so many writers and commentators spend a lot of time and newspaper space discrediting and criticizing the Yankees and especially Jeter. You’ve been on this blog for hours and you’re a Met fan. Your argument like many others including some baseball writers is that even though Jeter’s overall numbers topped Justin he shouldn’t get the award because he’s plays for the Yankees and there are a lot of good players on the team. That’s the Anti-Yankee logic.

Of course were going to complain about it, we’re opinionated fans, it’s what we do. You can’t tell me Met fans don’t belly ache about what should’ve happened in their season or with their players. Like they don’t get upset when the Yankees or the Phillies beat them at something. Or like they didn’t make up excuses for not making it to the WS. It’s what kills the time during the off-season.

Comparing hit by pitches for MVP awards is the most ridiculous thing I have noticed. PLease that is no reason for comparison.

Not a yankee whiner or basher

I Have a Dream
I have a dream that all people will be treated equally.
I have Dream Someday the Yankees will win another world series

I have dream All Yankees Haters and bashers treat Yankees respect

I have a dream someday jeter would win Mvp

I have a dream that people would lay down their differences and be friends.
I have a dream that people will respect themselves and others.
I have a dream hunger will end and that peace will begin.
I have a dream that my dreams will become your dreams too.
I have a dream.

Who will be Opening First base next year for the Yankees?

1) Andy Phillips

2) Rich Aurilia

3) Shea Hillenbrand

4) Wigginton

I'd like to know who the idiot sports writer was that voted jeter 6th. The guys a disgrace to his profession. What was he watching all year, fooz ball?

Jeter should have won MVP pure and simple..

To No way: You indicated that your not a Yankee whiner nor basher. As a yankee fan I appreciate these facts about you. So, maybe I can get my point across. Not being a yankee fan,I assume you do not watch alot of Yankee baseball. So, my point is this. Pitching inside an tight to Jeter is the usual way of attempting to get him out. The opposing pitchers are not concerned about hitting him or retribution from the yankees. Jeter HBP 12 times is more than double of the HBP of Morneau thus a more feared hitter. It was just another way of explaining his value. I know its not an acceptable stat just another slant on it. By the end of the year, Jeter looked like a samuri warrior with his arm and hand protections worn. The guys who play the game know who's more valuable. There's no stat for going into the hole left or right catching a grounder and throwing the runner out at SS or standing at first base and catching a throw from an infielder. You can't compare a first baseman's ability in fielding to a SS. Just another way to show value but not a stat. I hope this in someway explains my point.

jcowley@suntimes.com

I'm a Met fan who like most of us dislike the Yankees, but as a baseball fan I have to admit that Jeter was robbed. Morneau is good, he hasn't been around long enough to say great, Jeter is, and I don't think anyone means more to his team and their performance than Jeter!

Jeter has all stars around him. Damon, E-Rod, Giambi and Posada and the lsit goes on.

Morneau has maybe Mauer?

best player in baseball since 1996 Jeter was robbed

If one sportswriter's vote can deny a deserving player MVP, then maybe the award is not worth much. It's sad there is so much bias- but I'm afraid there will be more to come. When it is tome for this generation of Yankees to be voted on for the Hall of Fame, I predict that Bernie won't be seriously considered, and there will be an organized block of votes to not elect Jeter and Rivera the first year they are eligible and make them wait until their second year.

On a smaller scale, did anyone notice the silver slugger awards? This is for the best hitter at each position. Crede won over ARod for 3B, despite having less HRs, RBIs, BA, etc.

Anyone who thinks there is no anti-NY bias is not paying attention.

Jeter should have won. Anti Yankee at its best. Could you imagine if the Yankees were not in the league. The other teams would not draw anybody to the stadiums and and guess what? The wonderful, "knowledgeable" writers would not have a job.Writers be fair.

After yesterday’s blog conversations, reading today's papers and hearing the idiot Cowley on yesterday's rerun of Mike and the Mad Dog last night, all I kept hearing was that Jeter is apart of a great line up so he doesn't matter. These people obviously don't know anything about what happened in NY this year. If you’re going to vote you should at least know something about all the teams that have a candidate in the running. I’m not sure Cowley even knows baseball; all he kept referring to was football. Maybe he should change jobs.

(I posted this on the WFAN website this morning)
With Hideki Matsui and Sheffield out at the beginning of the season, Robinson Cano out for 2 months, Johnny Damon nursing a fractured bone in his foot who was also out for some stretches of time, even the bench players got the injury bug with Cairo out for 2 months after he was the every day 2nd baseman, Giambi’s fractured wrist that had him fading towards the end, not to mention the abysmal season ARod had, there are still people that say that Jeter wasn’t important because of the other players in the line-up. What players are they talking about? Philips and Melky? No doubt those youngsters came up big when their number was called (Philips was hurt at the end of the season too) but lets be fair, Jeter was the one constant in the line-up and he put the Yankees on his back all the way to the end. Maybe he was snubbed because the Yankees clinched early? That 5 game series in Boston was the turning point and Jeter was great and a huge part of the sweep.

Derek Jeter topped Justin's numbers except for RBIs and HR. Maybe it’s the allure of the power numbers that made the difference? He will never have those numbers as he bats 1st or 2nd and is not a power hitter. He hits for average and in the clutch. He had a .318 BA w/RISP second to only Young who wasn’t a serious candidate. Jeter's 97 RBIs from the 2 spot was a huge accomplishment and I'm not sure other #2 hitters can contribute that much. He stole 37 bases and score 118 runs. Take him away and maybe the Yankees finish second.

Justin had a great year and in part carried his team but so did Mauer and Santana. Justin deserves it but Jeter was more deserving.

Wah Wah my poor Derek didn't get the award he didn't deserve anyway.
Wah Wah.

anima needs an enima & doesn't watch baseball.

Here's Jeters statistics compared to Ray Durhams over the same length of career with the same number of AB's:

Jeter: , AB (J)6790 (D) 6790, Runs (J) 1277 (D) 1166, Hits (J) 2150 (D) 1907, 2B (J) 347 (D) 397, 3B (J) 50 (D) 80, HR (J) 183 (D) 181, RBI (J) 860 (D) 784, BB (J) 705 (D) 738, SO (J) 1191 (D) 1089, BA (J) .317 (D) .281, OBP (J) .388 (D) .354, SLG (J) .463 (D) .443, SB (J) 249 (D) 263, Fielding PCT (J) .975 (D) .982

Jeter leads in 7 of the 14 categories. Postseason statistics you can't compare b/c Durham has only played in 12 games and Jeter has 119. Also the myth that Jeter raises his games in the postseason is way over blown b/c his only numbers that are up on average is his HR's and BB's, his Strike outs go up too. Everything else is down but not by much except for RBI's. So basically Jeter is a glorified Ray Durham during the regular season, but he's the Yankee captain so I guess we should all just assume he belongs on another level.

I'm not saying he's not a clutch and great performer but people tend to put him up on this pedestal like he's Cal Ripken Jr., which he's not even close to being. I have much respect for him and I love the way he plays the game but the facts are the facts.

This is not the same Joe Cowley who used to be a pitcher for the Yankees, is it? Not a terribly common name.

Also the fact that Jeter won the Gold Glove for shortstop in the AL this year is a crock of S*IT. Michael Young should have ran away with it, here are their numbers side by side, this is based on 549 Chances each:

Put outs (Jeter) 254 (Young) 241, Assists (J) 453 (Y) 492, Errors (J) 18 (Y) 14, DP (J) 96 (Y) 113, Fielding PCT (J) .975 (Y) .981

Where is the Yankees bias their?

Hey GString:
Add this one to your "100 reasons to hate Derek Jeter:

HE'S GOT 4 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS ON HIS FINGERS....Something you Met's Fans losers can't stand to see and that's the root of your jealousy!

What a bunch of whiners! Boo hoo, Jeter got robbed, of course nobody talks about Jeter robbing Alex Gonzalez of the Gold Glove. Now that is a travesty, Gonzalez was superior than Jeter in every conceivable defensive category, Morneau had more HR's, RBI, higher SLG %, Jeter plays in a superior lineup. Everybody is biased against NY... Wait a minute, didn't a Yankee win MVP just a year ago? Jeter had a great year but so did Morneau, without Morneau, the Twins don't win the division, the Yankees still win the division without Jeter. So quit whining

Once again, this is not a career award. Why don't you guys have alittle bit of the class that Jeter has and just LET IT GO!

I can live with Morneau winning although i dont think he deserved it. But voting Jeter 6th is just plain ignorant. and anyone who doesnt see that is also ignorant.

That said, Jeter i dont think shouldve won the Gold GLove. But i do think the Hank Aaron was deserving. Remeber, the award is for top offensive performer. Papi deserved it too i think. But the overall average, the SB's and SB percentage all have to be factored in. Thats why Jeter won.

feel free to send e-mails to Joe Cowley voicing your opinion. jcowley@suntimes.com

And TheGlove, Santana was the Twins MVP. not Morneau. Check the numbers.

Also I have to disagree that the yanks still win the division without Jeter. Think about how he was the most consistent of all the yanks who didnt get hurt. Think about A-rod's slumps, his bad defense, Giambi's slumps, Cano Matsui Sheff and MAriano being out. Then think about what Jeter did in that 5 game series against the Sox at Fenway.

Then tell me the Yanks win so easy without Jeter.

LG, check the numbers a bit better. Alex Gonzalez of the redsox shouldve won it. And thats coming from a yankees fan.

I didn't post the message that prompted your response. Mine is the post above - pointing to Jeter's 4 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS. I maintain that Jeter should have won the MVP award. Unfortunately there are several writers (like that Jerk - Cowley) with bias for players from the New York Market. Morneau, a decent 1st basemen, with a good year, was the third most deserving candidate on his own Team.

Oh right LG, I noticed my mistake. I completely agree w/ you

Ok I'm all twisted, that last post should be addressed to you The Glove
