This has worried me for a while. George can't live forever and I have serious concerns about how the Yankees would operate when he is gone. Will someone try to run the team like a business without putting so much back into the team as George does?
I find it hard to believe anyone can replace a character like George, he is certainly an original.
I never thought I would feel this way, especially after 1980's. Get Well George!

The fact that "The Boss" was sent home after a night in the hospital, would make me think this is nothing serious. He is growing old quickly, and I don't believe has been running the Yanks for a couple years now. If George was really in charge, Torre would have been fired. George no longer has the stamina to handle the stress of being "top dog" in the Yankee heirarchy.

I agree he hasn't been running the day to day ops for quite a while, but when we most need him is in July. Do you think Steve Swindal would approve some of the moves the Yanks have made in July, at the trading deadline such as the Abreu deal. He has the money, power, want and most of all guts to okay these types of deals, even if it costs the Yanks a wagon load of money.

Since, we have two Larry's on the blog. I'll change to the name below. I hope George is OK. There were times I felt he kept the Yankees from improving with his interference. But looking back, I believe his heart was in the right place thou his head made some bad, bad decisions.

If, he leaves the day to day to his son-in-law. Hopefully, George's spirit of competitiveness will survive his absence.
