Lyons is your TYPICAL sports commentator -- most of whom can only communicate by insulting, insulting, insulting -- then insulting some more. Lyons' crudeness is just a sign of what the majority of sports writing has become. It's not mainly about citing sports facts or showing commendable sportsmanship. Sports pages and commentary positions have become a highly-abused outlet that freely give a small number of questionable sports "experts" a free pass to vent their own personal frustrations.

(For the record, Jim Baumbach is a breath of fresh air and belongs in a different class. His blogs are open-minded because he's not afraid to hear opposing viewpoints.)

Lately it appears that a good number of sports writers seem obsessed with talking trash about opposing players who beat their favorite team, they incessantly insult great players merely because they're great, and they openly show jealousy and envy, with an obvious vengeance, toward the competition. They rant, rave and cry while making absurd, unfounded statements about teams they love to hate (esp. the Yankees).

Whatever happened to objective reporting and impartial commentaries? It's all about their personal opinions and personal feelings. REAL SPORTS NEWS has become almost extinct, commentaries having turned into personal vendettas. The biggest culprits: Fox sports writers, ESPN commentators, and many New York Daily News "sports writers", esp. Mike Lopica or Lopuke-a -- whatever name he goes by.

The most frustrating thing is that these loud mouths don't dare leave an email address so you can respond to their vile spewing. I'm just surprised the media companies they work for tolerate and condone it. You'd think they'd know better.

Why is it acceptable for a sports columnist to show hatred, envy and jealousy towards a team he feels threatened by (for Mr. Lapuke, it's OBVIOUSLY THE YANKEES)? The only readers who should find his outrageously biased diatribes and rantings acceptable are those readers who are fans of Lapuke's favorite team (OBVIOUSLY THE METS.)

Yes, Tango, there is a way to write interesting, witty columns and be impartial. Talented writers (like Jim Baumbach) know how to do just that and that's why they're talented. Name calling and mudslinging is low class and cheap and such crude dirt belongs in low class, cheap rag sheets. When you read a column and strongly sense the writer's animosity and disgust OBVIOUSLY out of fear, envy and jealousy, it's time for that writer to stop writing and seek psychotherapy instead.
