Coming attractions

philhughes.bmpThe Gary Sheffield situation should end this week with the Yankees happily sending him packing elsewhere for a minor-leaguer or two. Also this week, the Yankees will likely officially announce their 2007 coaching staff, and perhaps they will even begin the process of negotiating a new contract for Mike Mussina. But if you're eager to look ahead past all of that, to next season and beyond, why don't you check out Phil Hughes' new Web site, which just hit the Web.

Looks like an ace to me.

Hey, look!

He'll even provide you with an autograph card for 5 bucks!

Mine is the mail already.

I am going to get a card and baseball signed too...this kid is going to be good, can't wait to see him in the bigs.

He's breezed through the minor leagues so far. I hope he continues to get better and has similar numbers in Columbus next season and maybe a call up to the majors?! That'll be the true test.

Can't wait to see what he can do at the Stadium.

Don't rush the kid. His contribution will be far too valuable for too long. As for Sheff, we should be able to do better than a couple minor leaguers.

I have echoed Roy's thoughts of not rushing Hughes. His resume on his website clearly shows his lack of innings pitched. I hoped to watch him for many years down the road.

Well, I disagree with Roy on almost everything, but I would tend to agree on this one.

That said, Cash has already said that he expects Hughes to get a shot at the rotation next season and it will likely be around the All-Star break.

That's not speculation on my part, that's what Cashman said on Michael Kay's radio show the day of the Torre press conference.

hughes will make it to new york next summer if everything goes well in spring training and in scranton for two or three months. that isn't a slam-dunk. Class AAA baseball is filled with ex-big leaguers. AA is more for prospects. the kid has one more leap to make and it's the hardest one left in the minors.

Check out his K's to walks ratio.

Phenomenal!

Eric don't get too excited. Double aa and TRIPLE AAA is one huge step. I to want the kid pitching in the Bronx but at the right time for him. I'm not being pessimistic just cautious. If he keeps the ratio of strikeouts to walks at the same level at triple aaa then we can all get excited.

so what's the best trade
for A-rod and for Sheff
