Jason Giambi visited Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser again today and he received yet another injection in his left wrist, presumably cortisone, which marks his third shot in as many weeks. Giambi had another MRI and CT scan on his wrist and the Yankees said the tests showed nothing new from their previous tests. But the Yankees did add that if pain persisted Giambi "arthroscopic surgery might be necessary" in the offseason.
And for those of you following "Project Runaway: The Carl Pavano Story" ... I asked Brian Cashman not too long ago whether Pavano being shut down will mean he will not have to face his teammates in St. Pete this weekend. "We'll see," Cashman said.

As far as Jason's injury is concerned if there will be no further injury with use than go for it. WS rings are not easy to come by.
Pavano should stay away from the team at this very special time. He was never a part of the team and showed no desire to be a team member. This should be by order of BC. This may sound unusal to cut your throat with a possible starter next year but Pavano has to swallow crow and show his desire in 2007. The Yankees should display this attitude toward him. We have won two division titles without him who needs him ,now. Yankee Pride is earned and developed with performance and victories not days on the DL. No sitting on the bench as an injured team member. The bleachers are too close for me.
Maybe Carl should be the batboy for the postseason. That should win back some respect, right?
Putting Giambi on the playoff roster and then having that wrist "act up" is just too big a gamble. Giambi should undergo the knife, which leaves the Yanks 2 options. If Sheff is decent at 1st base, play him there and DH Cabrera. If Sheff can't handle 1st base, Sheff DH's, and C. Wilson plays 1st base. We can't afford to have Giambi come up lame during the 1st round of the playoffs, and be forced to play a man short.

Why would you DH Cabrera? If Giambi is off the roster play Sheff at first DHing Matsui (who is not the defender that Cabrera is) unless Sheff proves incompetent. If thats the case put Wilson at first and Sheff @ DH with Matsui at Left and play Cabrera off the bench.

As long as Matsui is physically able, he is the Yankee leftfielder under any scenario. "Clueless Joe" is very loyal to his veterans, and would not relegate "Godzilla" to the role of DH. Matsui is "old school" and prides himself on being a "complete" player. That means playing every day, both on offense and defense.
