The tribe has spoken

Okay, I admit it.

I watch Survivor.

And I have been watching it from the beginning, from season one. I love everything from Jeff Probst to tribal councils to reward challenges to "I'll go tally the votes."

Make fun of me all you want, but get this. You're newest Yankee (No, not Jose Veras) watches the show, too. Craig Wilson, acquired from the Pirates at the trade deadline, is a self-described avid viewer. We talked Survivor for a little bit the other day, and I have to say, he knew more than me. Even said he'd like to go on the show someday.

And it's not even his favorite reality television show -- that honor goes to Big Brother.

With the first two games of Chicago series in the books and the way the games concluded. Reality TV is the subject. Not Torre's crap shoot at pitching Farnsworth 2 days in succession and his typical second day failure or Bernie's inability to make a catch of the soft liner/flyball to center field. We brought up a young pitcher and designated a good defensive OF for assignment. These decisions with a 4 run lead almost cost us the game. Tonight will be another nail biter with our bullpen warn out again. Oh, yeah we have Meyers to pitch to one guy, no problem. We'll just have to score 15 runs. The CF tonight will be ? Hopefully, Bernie will be slated for other duties with Damon's possible groin pull.

Isn't it great to watch playoff caliber baseball involving the Yankees and to see them trade punch for punch with the World Champs who have "the best" rotation and bullpen in the bigs. Hats off to Randy and Mo. Villone has been consistently effective, and Veras gives us some serviceable innings to work with. It is great to give him trial by fire in Chicago. It will really help if he survives and joins the bullpen rotation. Proctor and Farnsworth are both spotty at times, yet so was Cotts and MacDougall and Thornton. If we go in to Boston with a 3 or 4 game division lead the pressure is REALLY on them. We need to hold serve, they need to sweep. I watch this team and I see the kind of grit and resolve that I used to see in the O'Neill, Brosius, Tino teams. They will fight you. The pitching has been suspect, yet evryone is doing thier part. If Pavano can pitch like the guy we signed in September and October with a fresh arm we will be in great shape. Strong starters with plenty of long relief if someone falters so Joe can pull the plug early in important games is almost as good as 3-4 starters who give you seven a night. Randy gets in trouble, Jarrett comes in and goes three. Wang is off, Pavano comes in and gives you 3-4. Villone is good for two any night. It isn't the old formula but it is a formula that could get us deep into the post season.

Last night the Yankees played their own version of "Survivor"...Once again Farnsworth-less had to rescued by Mariano !

right now we are getting really lucky. the red sox losing 2 in a row to kc? come on that doesnt happen. if we can take javy vasquez out of the game early tonight and get to there worn out pen we'll be good, but thats assuming they dont get to our worn out pen either. we need a blowout to save our pitching. the 5 game series in boston is going to be killer, especially since its towards the end of our 20 in 20 deal. as much confidence as i have in the yankees i can see them taking the series in boston, its just not likely that there poor play will continue when we are there. we need to at the very least maintain this 3 game lead if we plan on coming out on top after the boston series. partings words: the yankees are savages and neal cotts can only thorw 2 pitches and they arent good

i just wanted to give kimberly jones some props for continuing her pregame report in the pouring rain. her mascara was all running and she was soaked but she perservered through it.

much props kim

Typical "We New Yorkers Fear Change" article from Wally Matthews today...
