Morning moves
Aaron Guiel and Jeff Karstens showed up in the visitor's clubhouse with bags under their eyes, having each gotten about an hour of sleep. They were called after 1 in the morning and told they needed to be at the airport around 6 to fly to Boston. Sidney Ponson was designated for assignment and Brian Bruney sent to Columbus.
Karstens is up as a much-needed fresh arm in the bullpen, and he's been waiting for this. He was pulled from his last start after only one inning to keep him fresh just in case the Yankees decided he would start the nightcap of the day-night doubleheader Friday night, which Joe Torre said they were "very close" to doing. Guiel is up because Jason Giambi is banged up. He stretched his groin a touch in the eighth inning last night, and didn't play the ninth, but is back at first today.
Also, Bon Jovi showed up in the Yankees clubhouse before the game, creating a mini stir. Players were going up to him getting him to sign baseballs addressed to their wives. Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Damon, Jason Giambi, Mariano Rivera and Mike Myers were among the players milling around the rocker from Jersey.

Bon Jovi rocks and so do the Yanks! I wonder if Lawrence Welk will show up in the clubhouse next?
Hello Fellow Yankee fans,
This New Yorker is on vacation in Australia at the moment, trying to follow the emotional games between Baseball's ancient rivals.
I thought the Yanks would take two out of the five games from Boston and, leave New England in pretty good shape. What has unfolded as I stay awake following the games on The Internet half a world away, has blown me away. Are we witnessing 'Boston Massacre version 2006' here? Going by these first three games it seems that way.
I've turned a few of my Aussie friends on to our wonderful game and, well, it is these kind of wild and crazy Fenway Park battles that best illustrates to those outside the U.S. what Baseball is all about.
By the time of the final out in Saturday's 13-5 win, it was early morning here in Sydney. We were screaming our lungs out at 5 am! Sleepless, I went into the Australian Sunday morning on a cloud I haven't experienced since that August '78 weekend. Can the Bronx Bombers keep it up well into October? That remains to be seen. The pitching remains a concern but, yet offensively it looks like the Yanks are in 'kick butt' mode now. A sweep would be sweet but, somehow I think the Sox are not going away. And look out for those Twins! I'll be back home in time for that series.
Just wait, Bon Jovi will not be the only celebrity to show their face in the Yankee dugout.
Eric, sleepless in Sydney
