Don't expect Gary Sheffield in the lineup anytime soon. The Yankees said the MRI on his left wrist showed a tear of a ligament and a dislocating tendon. Surgery is not being talked about, Sheffield's attorney, Rufus Williams, said. At least not yet.
And don't expect Mariano Rivera to pitch tonight. His back locked up when he was putting on his shoes in the clubhouse, and he could barely walk to the trainer's room. Right now the Yankees don't know what to make of it, and they are crossing their fingers hoping it's only a spasm.
To be continued.

As the team was being formed over the winter months. You could see the age factor of the players and a 162 game schedule comming into play. My first reaction was a rotating shift in the outfield with Crosby and Bernie getting some decent playing time. Cairo and Phillips likewise in the infield. I felt this would be a blessing in disguise. The team bats the prior two seasons becoming tired in the playoffs. I never invisioned so many players hurting at one time. The team is old, all three starting outfielders past 32, Posada 35 and Giambi 34. You can go on with this info but its not necessary. I just hope they don't sell out the farm for OF players. I do not see anyone who will perform much better then the guys there now. We need pitching if anything!
Rivera goes 3 inn. in May, and 2 days later can't even put his shoes on. "Clueless Joe" continues to abuse this 200 million dollar team. This is akin to the blind Col. Frank Slade\Al Pacino driving a Masseratti in "Scent of a Woman." Somebody has got to take the keys away from Torre. I'll bet he can't wait to get his hands on "The Dotel."
What's next Randy Johnson cuts his pitching hand trimming his nails ?
What is with the media blackout of the status of Richard Hidalgo? Does anyone know if they plan to use this guy at the big league level? Thanks.
John:
The Yankees and Hidalgo agreed to part ways last week. We reported it in the Wednesday paper. GM Brian Cashman said, "We decided to pull the plug on that."
