Everyone in Red Sox Nation is so quick to hammer Manny Ramirez these days and to kiss the vacated ground in left field now that he's bleeding Dodger Blue with Joe Torre.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in his eight years in Boston, didn't he help the Red Sox win two World Series rings? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the 82 years before he moved to Beantown, didn't the Red Sox win zero World Series rings?
Man up, Red Sox fans and give Manny the credit he deserves. You sound like a bunch of lazy incumbents awaiting a ninth-straight re-election to Congress.

Seriously, enough of this "addition by subtraction" stuff. Jason Bay is not replacing those numbers, just like Wilson Betemit wasn't going to replace A-Rod's numbers. And yes, Yankee fans all off-season wanted A-Rod and his 45-140 numbers gone.
Manny is still loved here in the bean for what he has done for our club. We love him and are very thankful for his past contributions to our success.
Unlike the Yankees though, we know how to move on when the situation gets to a point where you have no other choice.
Maybe that is why we're the only team this decade to win twice, maybe this is why the Yankees haven't won since the last century.
For all Manny has done for us it got to the point where the club house environment was sour because of him, sometimes you have to move on.
Bay is not Manny at the plate, nor will he be. It would be hard to argue that we've taken a significant dip in production though considering Manny's numbers in his decaying age.
Add that with the fact that we're getting someone that is 7 years his junior, who actually enjoys running out ground balls and hustling to third on a typical Manny single and the obvious increase in defense.. We'll be ok.
It is not a stretch to assume Bay averages 30/120/.300 @ Fenway park either :)
