While it's never comforting to wake up, read the box scores (yes, some people still do that) and see that the Yankees lost to Kansas City.
But what is comforting is seeing that the Detroit Tigers, who were 0-7 on Wednesday morning, improved their record to 1-7 on Wednesday night, courtesy of the Red Sox.
Losing to a first-week-of-the-season juggernaut such as the 6-2 Royals isn't so bad when you compare it to giving an 0-7 team their first win of the season.
Granted, in October, no one will remember that . . . except for all TV shows during the playoffs. I can see Joe Buck now, saying "Things looked bleaked at the start of the season, Detroit losing its first seven games. Then came that first win against Boston ...."
