Omar is the man. He essentially made the game 7 innings. Putz and Krod shutting down after that
Very good deal by Omar.
We get Putz for Carp and Heilman basically since the 3 nobodies really havent shown anything worthwhile.
And we get another reliever to add to the 6th/7th inning mix and a utility outfielder to replace Heilman/Endy.
Im very happy with this deal... now Omar needs to get us a SP or 2 to really make this a great offseason.
THE METS DYNASTY begins in 123 days peeps. The NY Mets are taking over the 21 Century. Game over, dudes. Nuff said.

I just can't believe Endy is gone..I'll always remember that catch he made in 2006 against the Cards in the NLCS. And that big smile of his. My father (who passed in january 2008) liked Endy too. He was his favorite player on the team. He always reffered to him as "My Boy Endy"
Anyway..i'll miss ya Endy..good luck in Seattle.
I give him credit for Putz....Very good deal.
Krod was money and I could of done that !
Still say the core MUST be shaken. We still need a 2nd baseman. We still have no CLUTCH dirt Dogs.
There is no better place I could envision the miserable Heilman going than a place just as miserable, Seattle. I hope he enjoys walking around the cold, rainy streets of that dumpy town with that same pitiful, disinterested demeanor that he carried around New York for such a long time.
Eventhough I'll miss Endy and Smith, getting more than a dozen practice ball, some batting donuts, and a case of soggy hot buns for Heilman was genius.
^^^make that hot DOG buns o_O
FO - Yeah, K-Rod was a FA signing, not an elaborate deal like Putz.. But Omar did do a nice job in not being over-anxious, played the fact there were plenty of other choices perfectly - you read the news, K-Rod's agent originally wanted a 5 year deal, and the Mets got him for 3 years at less than what Wagner's making... THAT was good work by Omar as well.
Putz deal was great - I liked Joe Smith, but to get a power arm with closer experience and only 31 years old, that's a no brainer.. This Green guy looks like he will be effective against right handed batters, like Joe was.
From a BP perspective, they need another lefty setup, assuming Schoenweis is history. Can't have too many lefties in the BP when you have to face Utley\Howard 18 times.
Priorities:
1) Get a starting pitcher
2) Resolve the 2B issue - although Castillo staying seems to be a real possibility
3) LH setup
4) OF - Manny's the dream, don't think it is happening
Good pick of Darren O'Day in the Rule V draft. He will be a good contender for the bullpen spot left by the departure of Joe Smith. A bullpen of Rodriguez, Putz, Parnell, O'Day, Sanchez, Schoeneweis, and Stokes is a pretty good one on paper. Also, it gives the opportunity for Kunz to develop more at Triple A or be traded to bring in another starter.
Dave,
Any sleep in Vegas? Hopefully today brings more addition by subtraction.=Castilla....Any Brad Penny talks, I don't think he would cost too much(it is not my money)...
Could Mets be in Peavy talks? Sad to think Ollie could get 15 million a year....He compared to Johan is no contest...
CP, Heilman killed me too, but I hope he does well, I am sure he tried his best, he should have been traded after Molina....
Fire Omar/Mangini, Here's hoping we have no complaining in 09, but after all we are the Mets. Would you take Manny for 2 years, say 30 million(more not my money)????
agreed AC !!
Upstate: Manny is the best right handed bat I have ever seen. I think he would shatter that already thin clubhouse though. Living in Boston for the past 10 years, I have seen his bat at work. It is awesome. I do not think we need a BIG NAME though...The Mets need the DIRT DOG...A clutch bat...Look at the names that came through for the Phillies, the Yankees in their hay day....It was the Scott Brosius, Paul O'neil, Werth, etc. etc....
If Omar wants me off his back, he needs to find the gamers like that !!
