Beltran for Cano? Right. Sure. Maybe throw in A-Rod?

cbelt.jpgWhy, why, why would the Mets think of trading Carlos Beltran for the Yankees' Robinson Cano, as "internet rumors" have suggested?

Because they want to have a huge hole in centerfield rather than an easily filled one at second base? Because they'd rather have the Yankees' overpaid, underachieving, head case in Cano than a four-time All-Star in Beltran who is going to win his third Glove Glove this year?

Oh, I forgot. The Yankees supposedly would throw in Ian Kennedy and Brian Bruney, too. No thanks. I'll keep the switch-hitting centerfielder, who covered the equivalent of the Gobi desert this season between the likes of Daniel Murphy, Nick Evans and Fernando Tatis in the corner spots.

Just a reminder, this was Beltran's contribution in 2008:

161 G ....284 BA ... 376 OBP ... .500 SLG ... 116 R ... 40 2B ... 27 HR ... 112 RBI

What else ... Let's see ... Oh yeah, there's nothing the Mets like more than watching one of their former players help the Yankees win a World Series and maybe the MVP in the process. Perhaps as Cano continues to be a bust without Larry Bowa around to kick him in the butt. Shall I continue? Or can we stop now?

Beltran does have a complete no-trade clause, but I'm sure he'd waive it to go to the Yankees, which is where he wanted to sign in the first place.

this would truly be an awful trade... no way Cashman gets Omar to bite on 2 overhyped former prospects (Kennedy/Cano), and an easily replicatable RP like Brunney for the best CF in the game...

is this a joke?!!!!

Ron Darling brought up a phenominal point:

"Shame on some of the Mets for "dogging" it the first half of the season for Willy!"

Soooooooo true.....Everyone blames the bullpen...Well what about when we had a healthy premier closer, yet Reyes, Beltran, and Delgado were having a horrible year and dogging it for Willy?

Darling, Keith Hernandez, WFan, and others in the know all agree with me.......The Core has not got it done! The core dogged it in the first half and CHOKED down the stretch. The Core is to blame!

For all those that ripped HOJO....HE was in tears after the Mets last loss....The older players, had to FORCE him on the field he was so upset......That is guy with a ring already. That is a coach. I wish the players felt the same way!

Thanks David for bringing some sanity to this web-driven rumor. Shout it down!!!!

Fire Omar:

Nobody Cares Crackhead

You mean no one care who you are NR. you are a nobody. F.O is a living legend who should be a pro gambler. Called it right from the start.

Phillies are so head and shoulders above us right now.

Told you all GAME ONE of the regular season....Phillies vs. Sox !

Amazing how some do not listen!

We all know that FO called this. How could we could we forget, he doesn't give us the chance. Every time that he has a chance to say something that he predicted, he has to make sure he does. But I give him credit, bc for the most part, his opinions are based on facts, not on senseless poorly thought out opinions.

This trade would open up too much of a hole in the outfield, in my opinion. However, if you could replace Beltran with an outfielder who is an above average fielder and doesn't give up too much at the plate, I would be open to trading him. You are not going to get a CF that puts up the kind of numbers Beltran does, because there aren't any out there who are available. I would still like to see how Murphy handles 2b in the AFL, because he is the type of player the Mets need in the lineup everyday, not a guy like Cano.

1) another stupid rumor made up by Yankee fans

2) Fire Omar, you are obviously a Phils fan or a Yankee fan. Go away

3) Anyone willing to trade Beltran is moronic. You have no idea what we have out there in CF.

This is crazy, Cano is overated, all Omar has to do is get someone to eat at least half of castillo's contract and get rid of his own made mistake and sign Hudson & Fuentes, lets go to bat with that in 2009. GO METS !!!!

David,

Please, please explore this Jake Peavy trade rumor that's coming out of San Diego. Is there any way the Mets are a match with the Padres? I'd much prefer Jake over Oliver, or to signing C.C. and we really need the starting pitching.
