A case of the Willies
It's bad enough that the Brewers beat the Mets at the wire for the wild card. But now that Willie Randolph has interviewed for the Milwaukee job and appears to be a serious candidate, this previously tepid rivalry could heat up in a hurry.
Knowing Randolph, and the feelings of the Mets' front office, any meetings between these two teams next season will be nasty affairs. Remember, it was "friends" of Randolph that accused Jerry Manuel of backstabbing him after the June firing and there were about four players who actually came to Randolph's defense while his head was on the chopping block. Maybe three, because I can't count the perpetually sunny David Wright.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see Randolph getting a welcome-back ovation when the Brewers visit Flushing from April 17-19. If he does get the Milwaukee job, will those be Platinum dates at Citi Field?
***** UPDATE *****
Who knew that Willie would be in such demand? Now the Denver Post is reporting that the Rockies have contacted Randolph about their bench coach job under former Met Clint Hurdle. Remember, the Nationals already are interested in Randolph for the same position on Manny Acta's staff. It seems the only place he can't get hired is New York.
