Mets trade for Luis Ayala

The Mets have picked up veteran reliever Luis Ayala from the Nationals for a player to be named later (don't tell anyone but it's going to be Anderson Hernandez).

Don't order those World Series tickets yet . . .

Ayala is 1-8 with a 5.77 ERA. He did pitch two scoreless innings against the Mets on Wednesday. So there you go.

Whatever happens in today's game, the most important thing going on with the Mets is Billy Wagner's doctors exam in New York. If Wagner can't get his elbow right, the Mets are in deep trouble, no matter how many bargain-basement relievers Omar Minaya picks up.

Also, David Wright is getting the day off. Damion Easley is playing third and batting third.

minimal impact deal. Hopefully Ayala can take some of Heilman's innings as he's been working 2 days out of 3 for too long.

Easley 3rd over Beltran, that interesting. Should probably serve as a slap to the face of Beltran, but he seems so oblivious I wonder if he will even take note.

Ayala is 1-8 with a 5 plus era.....FIRE OMAR TODAY !!!

David,

Why the heck is Damion Easley batting 3rd?!?!?! - ahead of Carlos Beltran, David Murphy, and Fernando Tatis.

All 3 of those players have OPS's above .800, and Easleys is in the mid .600's. What is going on here?
Just because Easley is filling in for Wright doesn't mean he has to take his spot in the order!
