Well, there's always the Aug. 31 deadline. Only now the players in question must pass through waivers first.

It's better Omar didn't further deplete the farm (F-Mart, Neise, Kunz) for a second-tier rental like Ibanez, who would not re-sign for next season. No need to make a panic deal now.
I heard the Twins were looking for help at 2B. Why couldn't Minaya trade back Castillo to get Mulvey or Carlos Gomez back??!!

I am glad they didn't make any stupid moves. I mean I would have loved to see them acquire a reliever or an outfielder but not at the prices some of these teams wanted. To make a deal for the sake of making a deal is stupid but to make one that benefits your team without blowing up your farm system is smart. The team will move on as is and when Freddy Garcia is available maybe the Mets make a push for him and make a waiver deal to help the pen. All of MLB and the experts are saying the Mets are dumb for depending on Ryan Church but I am telling you guys he will be fine. He can be the corner outfielder they wanted at the deadline and he is right here.

Minaya should not get another Pass - He has not done anything of substance as GM of this Team - anyone with a large checkbook could have signed Pedro & Beltran...and Santana fell in his lap....I don't want to hear anymore BS from this guy.....he should be fired.....when he was hired all he talked about was how he would restock the Mets minor league system, he fired all of the scouts and brought in his people and the METS organization is worse than before he started.....this guy is a joke!

Whereas I share in the sentiment that this team needed to be improved.... Can you explain in what way this organization is in worse shape now than when Omar took over after the Art Howe\Jimmy Duquette years?
Where were all of these Omar haters when he stole Johan Santana for 3 marginal prospects and Carlos Gomez?
Considering what the Pirates just got for Jason Bay....the Santana deal is Grand Larceny.
How about Ryan Church and Brian Schnieder for Lastings Milledge....who's hitting .240 might I add.
So he made a mistake with Alou....i mean the guy hit .340 for half a season last year....how could you not take a chance on him being healthy for another half a year, with Endy you'd have to think he would have it covered.
Every GM makes good and bad moves....but base on those 2 trades alone....Omar deserves to continue to lead this team.

What's up with the Manny deal? Omar said he didn't have a major league OF to deal but the Red Sox got Bay from the Pirates not the Dodgers. All the Dodgers gave up was a Class A Pitcher and a .203 hitting backup infielder. How couldn't the Mets match that and still have kept their top prospects. Muniz and A. Reyes should have been enough to seal the deal. Horrible job by Omar.
What is the sum total of players that Minaya has brought to the majors. 2 If you count Pelfrey from the old scouting system and Joe Smith. Reyes and Wright were already in the pipeline. I am surprised Minaya didn't trade them for some over the hill veteran. The only question is how long Manual can use mirrors to make the Mets look like a winning team. How long can a team with 4 pitchers win in the nation league? If you figure Pedro will get hurt again and El Duce never arrives this year.

Stole? $120M is getting a steal?
Don't get me wrong I like Santana, and support the deal, but I wouldn't characterize it as "a steal". It is market price for a top line starter.
