Randolph will be at Yankee Stadium tonight
Former Mets manager Willie Randolph will be a guest of George Steinbrenner for tonight's All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium. Howard Rubenstein, Steinbrenner's longtime spokesman, just confirmed that Randolph had accepted The Boss' invitation. While Steinbrenner will be seated in his usual box, Randolph will be in a suite directly below. The story was first reported by the New York Times.
"George emphasized that his friendship with Willie is a very important thing to him," Rubenstein said. "He's always looked at Willie as a friend and he is very pleased he'll be his guest at the Stadium."
Earlier this season, NL manager Clint Hurdle had named Randolph to be on his coaching staff for the final All-Star game at Yankee Stadium. But that announcement turned out to be premature when the Mets fired Randolph on June 17.

It's only fitting, given that Randolph was in the last All-Star Game at Yankee stadium. He's a true Yankee and New Yorker, and this is a well-deserved slap to the Mets.
Anyone could tell you that today's game is more about remembering the Yankee stadium, and is not just another All Star game. Is it so unreasonable to have one of the their most loved former players to come and watch the game, probably for the last time at the stadium???
Complete idiocy to call this a slap to the Mets. Why would the Mets care...the team has thrived since Randolph left.
Of course, if it IS an attempted slap at the Mets, it just goes to show that despite their 26 rings and the House That Drunks Built, the Yanks still - despite their fans' denials - worry about the supposedly second-class, little brother Mets. And that is hysterical to behold.

Being a YANKEE fan since 1978, I certainly felt elated last night.
Not only was it a HISTORICAL GAME, the last game of the Old YANKEE STADIUM, but the facts that we had all the GOOD OLD GUY'S.... Yogi BERA, HANK AARON to name a few...
We still showed every one that the YANKEE'S are the honor roll for all of MLB...... Watching the BOSS be driven into the park was definately a TREAT!! The best part, OVER TIME and we still KICKED BUTTY!!!!!! I don't know, but I think Babe Ruth was watching the game last nigt and he decided on OVER-TIME, and we did it.... AL Beat the NL....... SWEET
