Willie Randolph's final words

Manager Willie Randolph just left the South Coast Plaza Westin here minutes ago. His conversation with reporters was brief, and Randolph appeared to be on the verge of tears as he spoke. Here's what he had to say.

Q: What is your initial reaction?

WR: "I’m just very disappointed that I’m not going to be able to fulfill what my dream is to come here and help this team win a world championship. I'll miss my players, the fans. I’m really sorry that I wasn’t able to fulfill what I set out to do here, to get this team to a world championship. That’s what I’ve always been about. It’s very, very difficult right now but I’m ready to move on."

Willie:

Intial feelings:

Q: What’s next for you?

WR: "Go home and enjoy my family."

Q: Did you know it was coming?

WR: "I’m really stunned by it. I was surprised by it."

This team is a train wreck. Omar puts egg on our face again. First he puts together the oldest ~ worst team money can buy and now the whole franchise is in the media spot light as a BUSH LEAGUE TEAM !!!

FIRE OMAR TODAY !!!

***Funny how he kept Sandy Alomar huh ??? Hmmmmmmmmm has he done a good job waiving people in from third? Please explain!!! ***

Thanks for making the MEt fan look like a fool yet again OMAR....You are a LIAR and CLUELESS !!!

Omar also kept Howard Johnson. By the way, the Mets have an average age 30.6 while the Phillies average age is 30.4. The worst team money could buy lost 103 GAMES! While .500 is not great, and cost Willie his job, I don't think 61/2 out is exactly an insurmountable lead.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME I’m really stunned by it. I was surprised by it WHAT THE HELL DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN ."

I just watched Willie's comments on espn.com and he was not on the verge of tears at all. He was somber, but definitely not on the verge of tears.

Minaya is an absolutely PAINFUL listen.

I was shocked to hear that the Mets fired Willie. He overall has done a great job with the players he was given. You have several good years then start off the season not so hot and you get fired. Does not seem fair. I feel that Coaches should be fired before Managers.
WE WILL MISS YOU WILLIE
