Gameday Live 72: Mets at Rockies
Good evening everyone. Marc Jimenez here as the Mets open a three-game series against Colorado, which is coming off a three-game sweep of Cleveland and has won 11 of 15. John Maine (6-5, 3.87) will be on the hill for the Mets (35-36). The 27-year-old right-hander is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA over his last six starts. On Sunday, Maine gave up five runs in 6 1/3 innings during an 8-7 loss to Texas. Aaron Cook (10-3, 3.29), who has won his last three starts, will be going for the Rockies (31-42).
Will be back after the Mets bat. Feel free to share your thoughts.
Top 1st: The Mets go quickly in the first as Reyes, Chavez and Wright go down in order.
Bottom 1st: Not a great start for Maine. He allowed a leadoff single to Taveras and a two-run homer to Baker, who has four home runs in his last four games. Talk about being hot. Rockies 2, Mets 0.
Top 2nd: Big inning for the Mets as 10 men come to plate. Delgado cracked a two-homer to tie the game at 2 -- it was the 442nd homer of his career – then following singles by Easley and Schneider, Reyes, Chavez and Wright all had RBI singles. Mets 5, Rockies 2.
Bottom 2nd: Maine worked around a leadoff walk to retiring the next three batters in order.
Top 3rd: Trot Nixon gets into the action by crushing a solo blast to right. Mets 6, Rockies 2.
Bottom 3rd: Maine got out of a mini jam. With two on (on singles by Baker and Holliday) and one out, Maine struck out Helton and Atkins.
Top 4th: Chavez hit a two-out double before Wright gave one a good ride to the warning track to end the inning.
Bottom 4th: Beautiful sliding-catch by Nixon (on a liner by Taveras) to prevent the Rockies, who had runners on second and third, from scoring.
Top 5th: Beltran singled off the scoreboard -- missing a homer by a foot -- to lead off the inning. Following a walk by Nixon, Easley grounded into an inning-ending double play.
Bottom 5th: Another pretty play to end the inning! This time it was Wright with a sliding catch on a pop up from Helton. Maine, who seems to be having an issue with his finger, is looking good.
Top 6th: The only hit for the Mets this inning, oddly enough, came from Maine.
Bottom 6th: 1-2-3 inning for Maine on just seven pitches.
Top 7th: Beltran singled to left, took second on an error and was stranded at third.
Bottom 7th: Joe Smith came on for Maine (2 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks in 6 2/3 innings) and got Holliday to fly out to end the inning with runners on first and third. Cook was lifted for a pinch hitter. He was charged with 6 runs on 12 hits in 7 innings.
Top 8th: The Mets had the bases loaded and one out, but settled for one run on an RBI single by Reyes. Schneider, who singled, made a bone-headed play when he was throw out at third on Reyes’ base hit. Schneider, for some reason, was looking to tag instead of being halfway. Mets 7, Rockies 2.
Bottom 8th: Feliciano worked around a leadoff walk to Helton by getting Atkins to ground into a double play and fanning Hawpe.
Top 9th: Not much for the Mets this inning other than a single by Delgado. Now, let’s see if they can close it out and get to .500.
Bottom 9th: Mets win! Heilman came on and retired Tulowitzki, Torrealba and Taveras. Final: Mets 7, Rockies 2.

What was up with that Schneider?
Is it me or is there a chance that ALou has become like his uncle and is suffering from hypocondrosis? I know injuries happen when you get older, yet this guy seems to have been a consistent DL candidate for most of his career. Now this injury is just a bit much, rarely have I witnessed a calf injury to be so lengthy in nature. From the ankle to a calf, maybe if this was an achilles injury I would buy it, but this now seems to be more than a physical injury. Is he a head case or what?
