Schneider back to NYC
Brian Schneider's return from a bruised right forearm lasted exactly one game. Schneider was sent back to New York today because of an infection in his left thumb. He is currently hospitalized at New York Presbyterian and the Mets have Gustavo Molina on standby. Raul Casanova is starting tonight, batting eighth. Here's the full lineup:
Reyes (ss)
Castillo (2b)
Wright (3b)
Beltran (cf)
Church (rf)
Delgado (1b)
Pagan (lf)
Casanova (c)
Perez (lhp)

David how long is Schneider expected to be out? This could be bad if he is gone for an extended period of time, he was doing such a great job of managing the young guys like Smith, Pelfrey and Maine.
Mike DiFelice was available until this afternoon (he was DFA'd) and I don't know why Omar didn't pick him up. Then again, I don't know why the Mets didn't bring him back as a AAA catcher to begin with.
Is Cassanova such a better catcher?
I know Ramon is said to be about a week or so away, but if he is catching in the minors and going 2-4 and 3-4 the last couple of days, I would imagine he could be pushed to be ready by Tuesday, giving Raul 3-4 starts in a row and none for Gustavo.
Mike Piazza anyone? little 1b too? Then when everyone is healthy he is our PHer who can play C in a pinch, and some 1b vs lefties. He'd get 150 Abs, and probably 40 standing ovations. Playoff roster and possible ring. Romantic idea, yes, but also makes some baseball sense when you realize he is replacing no one special on the roster and has the pop we need on the bench.
No Metsie, DeFelice was let go b/c he wasn't Hispanic
I never thought about the hispanic thing. There are plenty of non-hispanics but I guess every time a non-hispanic doesn't make the cut, some people will instantly think of race.
I believe that the people like ML that immediately make that connection in their minds are as guilty as the people they accuse of being racist.
