Mets to use four-man rotation
With Pedro Martinez out indefinitely, manager Willie Randolph just said minutes ago that it looks like they'll go to a 4-man rotation. That means Oliver Perez, who starts tonight against the Marlins, will face the Phillies next Tuesday in the final Shea opener.

Anyone heard anything at all about Claudio Vargas and Omar's publicly stated interest in him as of a week ago? It seemed great news to me then. Vargas would already have been at the very least good insurance for the 5th starter job, if Duque and Pelfrey's troubles continued. Vargas is a proven ML starter. Not a great one, obviously, which unfortunately still aren't falling off of trees. But always a winner, and much more likely so on this very good team, unlike some of the others he has won for. Maybe he wants more money/job assurance than Mets would offer, but otherwise I don't see why they haven't gone after him pretty hard. Oliver Perez was in some ways a bigger chance than Vargas would be. I still hope Omar gets his autograph.
4 man rotation...yeah that'll look fine until late June when those 4 are worn out with or without Pedro coming back in early June. Mets better hit the crap out of the ball. Watch out for the Braves. Don't discount them. The pitching is old, but it is better than what the Muts have now.
