A Colt among the Mets
Dallas Clark, a Mets fan from Iowa who also happens to play a decent tight end for the Colts, spent most of batting practice hanging with players in his David Wright No. 5 jersey. And it wasn't a freebie from equipment manager Charlie Samuel, either. The black uniform top was a Christmas gift from his wife.
Clark was looking forward to visiting Shea later this season, and may even take some BP himself there. The All-Pro tight end took some decent looking swings as he messed around with one of Wright's bats, so Clark might actually do some damage at the plate.
In other pregame news, manager Willie Randolph said he has no intention of moving Carlos Delgado out of the No. 5 slot despite his struggles at the plate.
"I think it's way too early for that to me," Randolph said. "I'm not ready to make any rash moves with Carlos."
In a somewhat surprising development, Ramon Castro (hamstring) caught five innings of an extended spring game in Port St. Lucie and went 2-for-3. He's still not running at 100 percent, however, so his return is not imminent.

Randolph is killing me. First he changes the lineup after it works so well with Church following Reyes. Then Pagan gets a second day off in a row. Why? It is obvious he does not think highly of Pagan for some reason. Maybe he is trying to prove his own comments true about Pagan just being a flash in the pan. Finally he states he has no intention of moving Delgado out of the 5 hole. I guess his average has to drop to .100 since .200 does not seem to bother Willie. When Alou gets back next weekend, he better be put in the 5 hole over Delgado. I used to be a big Randolph backer but the past 9 months have made it difficult. Seems he is being stubborn and obstinate just to try and prove how much more he knows about the game then sportswriters and fans. That and the fact he shows no emmotion and wants a team of robots has me starting to doubt he is the right manager to lead this team. I am actually starting to doubt he is manager quality for any team.

Willie is making the case that he should have been fired at the end of last season. The Big Hurt would be an improvement over the useless Delgado; and his cavalier dismissal of Pagan is childish.
