Gotay to Braves

Figures. The Braves claimed Ruben Gotay off waivers today, so now he's headed to Atlanta.

In other news, Steven Register was returned to the Rockies and Anderson Hernandez was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans.

First Lastings Milledge, now Gotay. How many revenge-minded youngsters can the Mets handle in the NL East this year?

I'm sure he'll beat us about 4 times this season...

Terrible roster moves by Omar...

Un freakin believable! I hope he does well down in ATL, serves Minaya and the Mets right.

Uh oh...

I understand that it had to happen this way, but this is about the worst-case scenario.

I'm still high off of Santana, though.

You take the good with the bad.

Game On !

david lennon can u explain to me why gotay and register was put on waivers and why register is going back to col. thanks.

Interesting: Braves' Omar Infante is hurt, but he's the primary backup at second, short and third. Prado is next for second, and Lillibridge is also a versatile guy who plays three infield positions. Should be interesting to see where Gotay can fit in, aside from Triple-A Richmond.

Register was taken by the Mets from Colorado in the Rule V draft for $50,000. If he does not stay on the ML roster for the entire year, he has to go back to his original team, for $25,000. This is the rule of this minor league draft.

Essentially, the Mets kicked the tires on Register for $25,000. They tried to work out a deal with Colorado to make a trade so the Mets could keep Register at AAA, but Colorado declined.

Take it easy with Gotay to the Braves. Every time a player goes to an NL East rival, everyone gets all crazy like he will haunt the Mets the whole season. Remember, it's the Braves as the chasers now, so enough with the defeatist attitude. When Gotay bobbles a ball or strikes out, will anyone comment then? How about if/when Glavine struggles down there?

Atlanta can try to needle the Mets by picking up our loose ends, but the division will not be won or lost by Ruben Gotay either way.

I just don't get it. I realize that the braves aren't much better with Gotay, that isn't my problem. My problem is the Mets giving up or giving away youth constantly for older players. Gotay did a great job last year and I think he's got great potential. I really like Omar Minaya, but this in my opinion was a bad move. Can we develop some of our youth for Christs Sake!
