« Ninety days and counting ... | Main | Day 1 of the Winter Meetings (mid-afternoon edition) »

Welcome to Nashville

After a little de-icing and waiting for the plows to clear the runway at LaGuardia, we finally took off into the teeth of a steady snowfall this morning en route to Nashville. Winter Meetings, indeed. First impressions of the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center: this place is huge.

Not skyscraper huge. More in the sense of squeezing an entire city into five distinct hotel subdivisions. The past few years, in places like Anaheim, Orlando and Dallas, the activity was fairly centralized between the lobby, an adjoining bar and the media workroom. But it's going to be a challenge tracking people down in this place.

Plenty of hotels have some sort of indoor pond or stream. This place has three different bodies of water and I'm not talking a couple of fountains. You need bridges to get across them. Initially I thought a moped or segway scooter would come in handy this week. Now I'm thinking a jet ski. See that photo to the right? They give boat tours in one of the lobbies.

Here's a neat feature for country music fans. You can choose a special wake-up call from your favorite artist, such as Trace Adkins, Vince Gill, Kellie Pickler and Wynonna, to name a few. I'm not sure who any of those people are, so I'll settle for the operator. The Mets should do the same thing for their fans at their spring training hotel in Port St. Lucie. I can see having Omar Minaya's voice greeting you with, "Time to wake up! Know what I'm saying?"

Dave, trust me -- you don't want to know who any of those people are.

how can there be "five distinct quadrants" of anything?

quad = four.

The reason we are making foolish trades is b/c Omar was NOT given a contract extension by the Wilpons. So look for Omar to do more ridiculous moves and mortgage the future to get a job.

If the Mets come away with anything less than a TOP TIER PITCHER this week, Omar should be fired before he packs his bags.

The Milledge trade will go down as one of the worst in history! Go read what columnists around the country are saying. All the headlines are negative towards Omar. After last seasons debacle and PR nightmare, how can the Mets do this to their fans? They can expect a lot of empty seats at Shea if this keeps up.

It is like watching Mike Milbury. Yet Omar has money and no excuses!

At least Milbury was entertaining. To the best of my knowledge, Minaya has never climbed into the stands and beat an opposing fan with his own shoe.

if rumors are true and Beane is asking for FMart/Gomez/Pelfrey and Heilmann for Haren then that makes it easy for me.

NO

Milbury did suck, but at least he did things and made things entertaining. Omar comes across as a rich jerk who is a power control loser. He can only overspend on players in UFA's or make horrible trades. Only two maybe three trades were any good. Getting Maine, Lo Duca and El Duque were good. Everything else not so good.

what about Perez?
