Pedro, Alou helping in Noel relief

Just finished a conference call with Pedro Martinez, his wife, Carolina, and Moises Alou, who are devoting their time and energy to helping refugees from Tropical Storm Noel in the Dominican Republic. Martinez was scheduled to begin his offseason workouts today in Miami, but will stay behind for at least another week to aid the displaced families, many of whom are living in a local school to escape the floodwaters that destroyed their homes.pmart.jpg

There are some pressing issues for the Mets this week, but whether or not A-Rod should get $350-million from the Wilpons is probably not at the top of Martinez's priority list as he works to help his devastated nation. Kind of puts things in perspective.

If you want to help out in any way, check out the Mets' release below:

The New York Mets today announced that pitcher Pedro Martinez, left fielder Moises Alou, SportsNet New York (SNY), and the Mets Foundation have joined forces to launch a public awareness and fundraising campaign to support the relief effort in the Dominican Republic in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Noel.

A series of PSAs in English and Spanish will air on SNY, Mets.com, and SNY.tv in this cause-related partnership. The Mets Foundation will distribute donations from fans to organizations assisting individuals and families affected by the storm with shelter, food, clothing, and counseling.

“We hope that our community – and the Mets’ profile among our fans in it – can help raise needed funds to help those facing very significant challenges in the Dominican Republic,” said Jeff Wilpon, COO, New York Mets. “The Mets Foundation salutes Pedro’s and Moises’ humanitarian efforts and supports the great work they are doing in the overall recovery effort.”

“Pedro and Moises told us about their desire to make a difference,” said Omar Minaya, General Manager, New York Mets. “It speaks volumes about the kinds of guys we have here. As a Dominican native and as a New Yorker, this is very special. We hope our fans will team up with us to do what they can to help.”

Fans can make their tax deductible donations by sending checks payable to the New York Mets Foundation (mark “Dominican Relief” in memo area) to:

No hurricanes in Port St Lucie We miss you Pedro I will send five bucks Same price to see you pitch here Sorry you are all wet

If the Mets did get A-Rod,where would he fit in?He hasn't played short in like five years and Reyes already tried to play second and didn't like it.Wright would have to be moved to left field and I think that would be a mistake.Wright has earned his position and I think it would hurt the Mets defensively to move him.

How about Wright at first?

David shouldnt have to move anywhere. Alex could try 1b or lf. But he should only be signed if it is going to be reasonable, like $20-25m/yr vs. Borass' suggested $35m/yr. If Arod needs $1.0m salary for approx every 5 games, let him go back to Tx
