After reading a few of your sentimental comments about Shea, maybe I have been a little harsh on the old building. I'll try to keep that in mind in further posts about Citi Field. I know everyone has fond memories of attending games at Shea, but after visiting other stadiums around the league, it's easy to see that the Mets are long overdue for a more modern upgrade.
I'm sure a number of you have driven down to Philly to see the Mets play at Citizens Bank Park and I think you'd have to admit it's an improved experience. Plus, the Mets won't spend a dime on maintenance at Shea during this final season. I've seen it elsewhere around the league. When a stadium is marked for destruction, the paint is left peeling, the seats are left broken and the bathrooms are left flooded. That's just the way it is.
That said, maybe the Mets can give Shea a fond farewell with a championship season next year. Raising a World Series flag would be a great way to open Citi Field in 2009, don't you think?

Milledge to Washington for Schneider and Church.. personally, I like this deal.
How do you like this deal? Now we have no bargaining chips for pitching. We need pitching
This team is a JOKE....FIRE OMAR, FIRE RANDOLPH, SELL THE TEAM.....
Biggest collapse in the history of the sport and now we trade our number one chip for a hack OF....We have NO PITCHING!!!
What a joke organization. Omar is a LOSER !!!!!!!
Let's see, we don't trade Milledge for a former Cy Young award winner (Zito) and runner-up (Willis) during the heat of a pennant race in 2006 (I wonder how having either of these start game 3 of the playoffs instead of Steve Crapsell would have worked out?). Then we turn around and trade him for two journeymen, one of whom (Schneider) may have been non-tendered by his bargain-basement team. This trade doesn't make any sense on so many levels that I don't know where to begin. With Shea set to close, maybe Omar is getting nostalgic for the good old days of "Amos Otis for Joe Foy" and "Nolan Ryan and LeRoy Stanton for Jim Fregosi".
Ohhhh the insanity!!!!! Horrible deal. What? milledge couldn't net anything better than these two? Ante please tell me why you like this deal?
Fred
I agree with you completely, this trade makes no sense on so many levels
