Green light for Pedro against Reds

petey.jpegIt's on. Pedro Martinez will start Monday against the Reds at Great American Ball Park. There are restrictions, however. Martinez, who was wearing large heat packs on his neck and hip this morning, said he will be limited to 75 pitches and no more than 35 in one inning.

"I gave my word," Martinez said.

well, can't be any worse than what we have seen all year.

Gary,
The starting pitching of the Mets has been great most of the year. The mets have 2 young starters that have been the Aces of the staff. The Mets also have an old fossil that defies age and time. A 300+ game winner, and another starter that won 7 games before heading to the pen. What was projected to be the teams' weakness has been it's strength. If the hitters hadn't slept thru most of the season, Maine would have 17-20 wins already. Perez would be pushing 15-17, El Duque' would have 14+ and Glavine would be around 14-17 wins too. They have all left games tied or leading and not gotten anything to show for it. Many days they give up 2-3 runs and get the lose. Pedro will make thing better by solidifying the 5th spot. But the starters have done their jobs well this year.

Is it a coincidence that the Mets have won two games in Atlanta by the scores of 7-1 and 5-1 after pedro Martinez returned to the New York Mets dugout and clubhouse. That is 2 runs on 6 hits vs. an Atlanta team that is statistically the second best hitting team in the National League.

yah, and then Witless Willie put Delgado back to 5th in the order, and the Mets only score 3 runs. Makes sense to me. Pedro has a way of relaxing everyone. He is also a student of pitching. He helped Mota, and Pelfrey out, and I bet he helps Maine and Perez too.

I found it very useful.
