Vote Wright for MVP

mvp.jpegI was a little skeptical at first about David Wright as the National League MVP, but after what he's done to carry the Mets this year, I can't think of a better choice. It might be tough for him to get enough votes across the country because he's not up there in home run and RBIs, which, as antiquated as it may seem, still count for too much to some writers.

But as someone who has watched Wright on a daily basis, and seen the spotty performances from other Mets this season, I took a closer look at his candidacy in today's Mets Insider.

Also check out Ken Davidoff's column examining the momentum shift from the Mets to the Phillies after this week's four-game sweep. We'll see what the Mets can do about that starting tonight at Turner Field.

Wright will have a hard time winnig because he will split votes with Jose Reyes.

There's no doubt Wright is a solid MVP candidate.

Thank you Thank you Thank you David Lennon (and Ken Davidoff) for trying to raise the level of baseball discourse in this town a little.

Someday OBP and SLG will be standard stats shown during every at bat and Newsday will get rid of the "Interleague" records in the standings and replace it with Runs Scored and Runs Allowed.

Brian,
What has Reyes done to deserve any votes for MVP? He get thrown out around 20% of the time he steals. David has yet to be thrown out by a catcher. 30 steals this year. David's bat has gotten hotter as the Summer has progressed. Reyes, he's dropping below .300 again. David leads the club in RBI, OBP, has almost 80 walks and has shown true leadership on the field and in the clubhouse. David is the face of the Mets. He's been the one constant force on the Mets all year. Reyes comes and goes.

What about Jose Reyes? why no MVP for him? I personally love Wright, but Reyes is "the straw that stirs the drink"

The drink has been stirred just fine while Josie Reyes hits pop-ups or grounds out. Josie needs to ride some pine. He's fallen asleep at the plate and in the field. MVP's don't do that.
